    Can I Find Another You?

    by Jane Clare M. Matin-ao

The first time I saw you

I never knew that Ill be in love with you

But I never pushed this feelingBut sad to say, Im getting crazy thinking of you

I told myself to stay away from you

To hurt you and forget all about you

But why cant I let you go?

    If you want me too!

All I know is to love

But I never expected to be loved

By the people I longed to love

What is this thing called love?

I promised to let you go

But this promise never became so true

    So, I asked myself

    Can I find another you?

    An Unhealthy Competition

Recently, the world welcomed its seven billionth baby, and surprisingly, she is from the

Philippines! That birth is a symbol of the rapidly increasing population of the country and of the

world. In fact, our country is also home to the six billionth baby, who was born 12 years ago.

These two historical events are both accepted as good news and bad news.

The good news is that we are again in the limelight of history. We have set another record

a marker for the new population.

But this news alarms many for it is the symbol of rapid population growth.

The Philippines has a population of almost a hundred million, and the number is quickly

going up. This number is a very great responsibility for the government because the number of

people to feed, to clothe, to give shelter, to educate and to give livelihood is also increasing.

In fact, consequences are now showing up. Many are hungry, homeless, jobless, illiterate and

sick due to pollution brought by over population.

Another major consequence of overpopulation is climate change. More people mean more

Earth-destroyers. The country, being in the Pacific Ocean, will be greatly affected when the Earths

climate changes. Without denying and casting the blame to other factors, man is the greatest font to

all these things we are experiencing today. Whatever are the consequences to all our actions, hope

we are prepared for the right defense before it will fully evolve and make its revenge on us.

The problem of overpopulation is taking its toll on us, so as the most intelligent species, we

have to adapt to this change. Family planning is the first and most important step in the process. An

ideal family has two to three children. With this, each child is given equal guidance and equal needs

by the parents. Of course, discipline comes in here. Parents have to know their capacities and

limitations so they can plan for the futures treasures their children.

Indeed, life is a very great competition, and it has always been unfair and unhealthy. When

population continues to decrease as supplies decrease, we might end up devouring one another

soon, with the strong as predators of their weak prey. Let us not wait for that to happen, instead, help one another to synthesize long-term solutions to the problem of overpopulation for the welfare

for the futures treasures the next generation.

    Giving Back To Teachers

    by Michael C. Guinita

Every 5th of October, the world celebrates its annual Teachers Day. This is done to honor

all teachers sacrifices just to let their students get in touch with quality education. This is also a day

when teachers set aside their hectic schedule and give time for themselves.

We have celebrated this for so long, but what is the essence of the World Teachers Day?

As another school year begins, teachers and students flock to school and start another year

of stressful work. Teachers often do things hurriedly and simultaneously. They dont just act as

mentors to students, which is already a daunting task, but as second parents as well, which is another

daunting task. What a life a teacher has!

Schoolwork is just a small part of teaching. The art of teaching is mainly about bridging the

gap of illiteracy and making students take the path of valuable education. Academic lessons are

undeniably taught in school, but lessons in life teachers impart to students matter most.

A quote says, Teachers make other professionals. If there were no teachers in this world,

other professions in the society would not be possible. Their versatility can make them teach any

kind of professional, like scientists, engineers, accountants, doctors, nurses, and even other aspiring

    teachers.

To give honor to their dedication to make the world a better place through education, the

World Teachers Day is celebrated every year. Their undying efforts are definitely worthy of praise,

not only by students, but by the society as well.

This is a day to mke them happy and let them see that their efforts are worthy of

appreciation. One may simple give them a short but sincere message to show gratitude to them for

the treasure that no one can ever take education.

A teachers task to give quality education to students never ends. The dedication to do such

work never ceases. May each students gratitude to their teachers continue until this day ends, for the

best way to give them back is by giving heartfelt thanks and showing them that their sacrifices are

not, and will never be, put to waste.

    Kuha Mo?

    by Marie Charryzze L. Cortes

    Name: Anna Manalastas

    Position: Chief Executive Officer

    Company: The Toy Company

I want to be the employer, not the employee. An executive that wears his coat and tie behind

his desk on an executive chair that says, Chief Executive Officer. A stack of piled paper on the

marble desk patiently waiting in line for my precious signature, with just a swift motion of my hand

and voila! Ive just deposited millions of pesos in my already overflowing bank account.

I seriously want to be just like Anna, minus her evil personality. Who doesnt even want to

be like her? Shes got brains people would kill for, not only that, but also a stable company that has

stayed monopolistic for years. An achievement that is so much difficult to have our hands on. Yes,

difficult, but not impossible. But the question is, How would you make a step to cover up this

    undeniably great journey?

For a fourth year high school student like me, this simple question needs a simple answer.

As what Albert Einstein said, Make complex things simple but not any simpler. So my simple

    answer is, DREAM THEN ACT.

These three words belong to the list of easy-to-say-and-hard-to-do. But ladies and

gentlemen, its only hard, not impossible.

As for me, its already very much of a clich to say Study hard but I have no other ways to

put it simpler. With good grades, you will not wander around all day looking for scholarships,

    instead, they will chase you!

With graduation pictures already kept in a box, the true challenge comes. The real world

comes in and we should go in a process called natural selection where only those who can adapt

survive. It is where the competition is neck to neck and you become sleep-deprived. Wherein there

will be times when you talk to yourself in the mirror and say, Can I really do this? Just then, I

would answer, Stay strong, it will be all worth it.

With a job on your pocket, you work hard not to lose it and even harder to learn from it.

With enough savings, you can now start to put your first brick to become a building with

your own very name printed across. A building that is your most prized possession and wherein not

a character from an inspirational TV series is the owner. This time, it would be you, it would be me.

    Not her, not him.

    Mga Kaibigang Tunay

    ni Angelica Marie Suico

    Mga kaibigang tunay

    Tawag natin sa isat isa

Di kailanman maghihiwalayHanggang tayo ay tumanda na

    Sabay tayo sa pagkain

Pati na rin sa mga gawain

    Sabay tayo sa paglalaro

    Hanggang sa oras ng pagloloko

Magkasundo tayo sa lahat ng bagay

Kahit sa paggising tayo ay magkasabay

Marami na tayong pagsubok na nalampasan

    Hawak-kamay tayo hanggang sa katapusan

Kung ang landas man natin ay mag-iba

Ipalagay niyo ang inyong loob at wag mag-alala

Ang limutin kayo ay di ko magagawa

Minsan kayong naging bahagi ng aking buhay

Mahal ko kayo, aking mga kaibigang tunay.

    Dear Editor,

As a proud student of MCCNHS, my heart just wants to draw attention about slashing out

the schedules of culminations and eliminating it from the monthly activities. Frankly, I admit that

learning inside the four corners of the classroom becomes boring and unenjoyable. I understand the

financial aspect of this issue, but isnt it the culminating programs that make academic subjects moreinteresting and enjoyable?

What I want to say is that these programs simply make MCCNHS a school where learning is

fun, setting aside every students bone-cracking pressures, and this is what I have liked in our school

since the time I first stepped foot here.

Many also have complaints about this, and I want to ask a question: Do these culminating

programs disturb our studies, and do we really need to remove them from the school calendar?

I am glad to have the opportunity to express my side on this matter and Im looking forward

    to your quick response.

    + Neko-Kun+

    Dearest Neko-Kun,

For years, MCCNHS has celebrated programs with a bang. The programs organized by the teachers and the

club officers are prepared for the students to learn their lessons in a different perspective.

But theDepartment of Education has issued a memorandum concerning these events. According to Division

Memorandum no. 135, s. 2011, the observation of national and local activities/holidays should have the least

disruption of classes and least expenses. Holding local academic and non-academic competitions shall be authorized by

the RegionalDirector only in meritorious cases and upon ensuring that such shall contribute to the improvement of

school performance. This memo further states that contests such as oration, extemporaneous speaking, rhymes, poems,

slogan/poster making, games, etc. should likewise occur inside the classroom.

The activities that we usually had take both sides of the equation: either they help, or perhaps, disturb our

studies. As the memo states, the programs arent necessarily removed from the school calendar, provided, they are

approved by the RegionalDirector and they can improve school performance.

Indeed, learning is fun when we also take its other side the fun way. I agree on your point that learning

inside the classroom gets boring. But since theDivision Office issued such memorandum, we can do nothing else but to

follow. Anyway, learning can still be fun even inside the classroom. It is where you get a chance to interact with your

teachers and classmates, unlike general activities where you only get to watch but you dont take part.

  • 8/3/2019 Can I Find Another You

    8/42

The financial aspect is something not to be worried about. Each culminating program is budgeted by the

school. But what is wrong is that the different organizations collect certain amounts from students. It is clearly stated in

the said memorandum that fund raising activities during celebrations are highly discouraged as these incur out-of-pocket

costs on the part of the parents.

School programs, indeed, make students learn in a way far from the conventional style, but these have to beregulated so that we can focus more on our academics. Anyway, it all depends on the teachers and students on how to

make conventional learning enjoyable for both parties.

    Yours truly,

    Editor

    Kahit Bata Pa Ako

    ni Jenearly Z. Baloro

Lahat ng mayroon akoy binigay ko

Labag man sa kaloobay nagpakagaga ako

Nasusuklam at nandidiri sa aking pagkatao?

Kapal din ng mukha mo, ano?

Pasalamat ka, mahal pa rin kita

Kayat kahit sampalin man kita, ilang beses di ko magawa

    Salamat at natuto akong magmahal ng todo;

At sambitin ang mga salitang, I love you

Kahit noon ay bata pa ako.

    Natatanging sandata

Lagi silang naloloko

sapagkat salat sila sa edukasyon, ika nga nilay No Read, No Write.

At ikaw, kailan mo binigyang

pag-aaral, bastat gusto mo, gawin mo.

    Walang iba, kundi tayo

Pababagu-bagong klima?

Walang iba, kundi tayo.

    The Man WhoHad Captured MyHeart

    by Jane Clare M. Matin-ao

How could thou say you love me when thou would go and leave me?

Nothing compares to a feeling of being hooked by ones cheerful smile, lovable voice and acaring pair of hands that perfectly fits mine A pair of hands that never lets go and is being drawn

towards my heart where he can feel its beat that would gradually stop whenever he says goodbye a

word that I never want to hear from his mouth.

Loving him makes me live each day happily and feel a heavenly life. He is the man of my

sight, my precious life, my lover, my dream boy and the man who had captured my whole heart.

Each time I stare at his eyes, I stare like there is no tomorrow. I just find myself taking a deep breath

and feel like I am floating in the air. Some may not understand the way how I love him, but for me

and what my heart always says, loving him the way I want would be the happiest part of my life a

life that I want to share and spend with the person I love most the man who had captured my

    heart.

Others believe that staying in love is a challenge. Yes, indeed, its not easy to love him but

Im trying to take all the risks just to let them know how much I could sacrifice just to love him

freely without anything to be scared of, or even to be ashamed of. Because all that a girl needs is one

guy, just one guy who is manly enough to prove to me or to anybody else that not all guys are the

same, that they deserve the respect and love given by a lady loving him heartily, and most especially,

a guy who could never define love.

The reason is that I dont need any flowery words or attractive actions to express how he

loves a person because the man of my sight, the name my heart is always calling, is just the right

definition for me. I believe in love because he lets me feel it. I have felt in love a thousand times or

even a million times. The first was the time when I met him, and the rest was every time I look at

    him with my heart-shaped eyes.

Somebody told me that when you will love someone, dont make him love you as much as

you do but love him so much that he doesnt want to be loved except by you. This line must be the

opposite; he had finally let go of my hands and gave his love to someone he was attracted.

How do I love thee? I might have defined love in a wrong time in the wrong place through

the wrong way. Indeed, it was then true that happiness will be lost when you intentionally want to

have it but happiness comes when you intentionally want to lose it, but still nothing can break my

love for him a love I want to have, to experience the feeling of saying, Till death do us part.

    Comprehensians welcome Amaya

    by Quennie Nikki B. Paring

The cast of GMA Networks pioneering epic series Amaya visited the school grounds of

MCCNHS-Annex Campus last June 29, 2011 at three oclock in the afternoon.

The actors and actresses who visited were Glaiza de Castro (as Binayaan), Rochelle

Pangilinan (as Bayang Marikit), Dion Ignacio (Kuling), Mikael Daez (Lumad) and Amaya herself,

One of the staff of GMA said that the series is all about the history of the Philippines which

are beyond the learnings of the students.

Artists who visited were very thankful and touched by the warm welcome given by the

what they always bear in mind. On Macaseros part, the people who love and support him made him

stronger and more inspired. He also added that he had always told his teammates to always think

positive during the game to avoid distractions on their minds and to focus on the game.

Because the MCCNHS volleyball boys became the champion, they will automatically

represent the Mandaue City Division for the CVRAA meet. Among the 12 members of the team,

only seven of them are qualified to join the CVRAA. Four students from Colegio de la Immaculada

Concepcion-Mandaue and four students from Cabancalan National High School complete the

    Mandaue City delegation.

For the girls category, only two players from the schools team will go to the said meet,

together with the team from Don Gerardo Ll. Ouano Memorial National High School, the

    champions in the girls category.

The CVRAA meet will be held from November 27 to December 2, 2011 in Bohol.

    Our Simple Responsive Action

    by Michael C. Guinita

    The birth of the project

We have made this improvised water filtering system to study the possibility of usingrainwater not only for watering the plants, washing rugs, dishes, etc. and cleaning the comfort rooms

but also for human consumption, especially for drinking.

Water filtration is a simple process in which impurities like bacteria, rust, dust, etc. are

removed from water, making it safe for drinking.

This water filtering system is a product of the brainstorming of the Engineering and Science

Education Program (ESEP) students, facilitated by some teachers who are equipped with the

knowledge in the process of water filtration.

    How it was done

In line with our theme EARTH, we had used recycled materials and materials from nature

to produce the water filtering system.

    Materials:

y Broken empty 5-gallon containery Destroyed table top dispensersy Crushed marblesy Charcoal from coconut shellsy Fine sandy Coarse sandy Pebbblesy 1.5 L empty PET bottley Retazo toley Super glue and epoxy for sealing

    Procedure:

Materialas from nature were sterilized for thirty (30) minutes excluding the charcoal from

    coconut shells.

The filtering particles were then put into the cartridge made from the 1.5 L PET bottle.

Pebbles were used for the first (bottom) layer. This is for further filtering. Two pieces of tole were

  • 8/3/2019 Can I Find Another You

    20/42

then fitted. The next layer was made up of crushed marbles to remove the acidity of water. Again,

two pieces of tole were then fixed. Coarsely ground charcoal from coconut shells was used for the

next layer. Its purpose is to eliminate undesirable odor from the sample. Two more pieces of tole

were then fitted. Coarse sand and fine sand were filled to eliminate bacteria.

The cover was attached to the cartridge. The cartridge with cover was connected to the mainbottle to complete the water filtering system. Now, the system is ready for use.

Three gallons of rainwater were tested. Naturally, the water was still filthy at the start. But

after two more gallons of rainwater were poured into the dispenser, the water became clear.

    Recommendation

As of the moment, we cannot say that the water that passed through the system is safe for

drinking not unless it will be submitted for evaluation at the Water Resources Center of the

    University of San Carlos.

This is the action we are to take after this presentation.

    Campus journalists join sports forum

by Aileen T. Perez, Shayne Fate C. Cortes and Roque RossD. Legarte

The Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School campus journalists took part of

the journalism forum of the Freeman last September 22, 2011 at the Marcelo Fernan Cebu Press

    Center in Lahug, Cebu City.

The forum was held in line of the Press Freedom Week which is celebrated on the week of

the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines.

The forum, centered on the theme Harnessing Sports as Partner in Development, started

with the main discussions presented by three panelists: Judy Gabaton of the Department of Tourism

(DOT) 7, Bill Velasco, a columnist and TV personality, and Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Harry

Radaza. Each of the speakers discussed their thoughts and schemes regarding the theme.

They also talked about the worsening situation of the sports sector in the country.

Development of sports tourism was also a key point in their talk.

After all three speakers had shared their thoughts, the open forum followed. The guests were

also given the chance to ask questions to the panelists. Of course, they answered each question and

added more inputs to their previous talk.

The whole program ended after all questions of the guests were answered.

    Dear Editor,

Whatever one does is a reflection of what his leaders do.

The Supreme Student Government is an organization that represents the student body as a

whole and its officers are probably the first ones to act on something which they find not good forthe school.

This organization imposes different rules for the betterment of everyone, and these are

expected to be followed by the whole studentry. But sometimes, some students fail to follow these

rules, but what makes everything worse is that some SSG officers violate the rules they made

themselves! It is always expected that they set as good examples to all students for them to follow.

The members/representatives who did these actions are not the problems, but we are,

because we voted for them and put our full trust on them as campus leaders, yet they dont seem to

act as ROLE MODELS of the student body. So, why did the students voted for them in the first

place? Is it because of popularity, or perhaps, voter-nominee relationship?

I hope that each student will be enlightened on the best way to use the right to suffrage as

early as now, because he will soon be choosing his leaders who will shape up his own future.

    Ms. Fourteen

    Dear Ms. Fourteen,

The Supreme Student Government is an organization where a chosen set of students get a chance to lead over

the other students and the entire school. This is also a chance for them to experience the feeling of being leaders in a

large group for them to be trained as the future fore-runners of our nation, and an opportunity for the student body to

practice the right to suffrage so that as early as now, they know how to use this basic right responsibly.

As campus leaders, the SSG officers initiate plans on how to solve different problems in our two campuses.

Therefore, because they are leaders, all other students look up on them and follow them.

Even if thats the case, the fact still remains: they are also students like us. Thus, they are not perfect. They

sometimes fail to follow their own rules and regulations. But what is wrong is when they violate their own rulesintentionally and repeatedly.

Since they won through our votes, we can do nothing else but to accept the results and be good examples to our

fellow students. Besides, its not the time for finger-pointing. Let us follow the rules without thinking that our leaders

    do the opposite.

The right to suffrage is one of our basic rights. As Filipino youth, we have to treasure this right even if we are

still young, because if used properly, this will uplift the way of life of every Filipino. So, when the next election comes,

let us weigh each candidate on their platforms, strenghts and weaknesses so that we will not regret our choice in the end.

    Respectfully yours,

    Editor

    QuickStudy: Climate Engineering

    Researched by Michael C. Guinita

    Originally written by Anna Kuchment

Chinese and Russian scientists claim to make it rain or snow on command. But can we slowglobal warming with massive operations called geoengineeing? A growing number of experts say yes

and that radically altering our environment may be our last, best hope of avoiding disaster. From

orbiting space mirrors to artificial trees to brighter clouds, heres whats under discussion.

    Flash points

y Risks vs. rewardsLike any untested technology, geoengineering harbors unknown risks. An artificial

cooling of the earth could disrupt global weather patterns, bringing drought and famine to

parts of North Africa, India and China.

y What it would costHoisting mirrors or sun shields into space could cost trillions of dollars, according to

a September 2009 report by the United Kingdoms Royal Society. Stratospheric aerosols,

which could block solar radiation and cool the earth, could cost tens of billions of dollars a

year; cloud brightening, which reflects sunlight away from the earth, $2 billion a year.

Expensive, yes, but to some economists, geoengineering is worth pursuing. One well-

regarded but controversial report projects that stratospheric aerosols could carry a benefit 27

times higher than their cost; it also suggests that marine cloud brightening could save $7.5trillion by reducing the damage caused by global warming.

y The Greenfinger scenarioDavid Victor, a climate policy expert at the University of California, San Diego,

worries about the prospect of a single nation taking matters into its own hands. It could be

a Hail Mary passing by a country getting hammered by global warming, he says. A wealthy

individual Victor calls him a lone Grenfinger could also choose to do it alone. To

prevent unilateral action, experts need a framework for researching geoengineering and

deciding, as Victor says, who gets to put their hand on the thermostat.

    Forward thinking

y Contain the carbonRemoving carbon from the air and storing it underground, or reusing it for fuel,

would help slow and possibly reverse global warming. This solution, says David Keith, a

physicist at the University of Calgary, would cost considerably less than what we might

  • 8/3/2019 Can I Find Another You

spend converting carbon-fed electrical to rooftop solar power. Englands Institute of

Mechanical Engineers has even come up with a proposal to line highways with artificial

trees that would collect carbon dioxide at rates far exceeding those of lazy natural trees and

convert it into a form thats easily collected and stored.

y Deflect, deflect, deflectNational Center for Atmospheric Research climatologist John Latham, along with

University of Edinburgh engineer Stephen Salter, has designed a novel way of brightening

clouds: a fleet of remote-controlled, wind-powered ships that would spray a fine seawater

mist into marine clouds. Its established that if you have a lot of little drops instead of a few

big ones, then the clouds are more reflective, says Latham. They hope to increase that

reflectivity by ten percent, which, they say, would hold the earths temperature steady until at

least 2050. Keith is devising a reflective metal particle that could levitate itself above the

ozone layer to reflect heat from the sun back into space, although his main focus remains on

reflective aerosols. Washington-based Intellectual Ventures Lab, owned by former Microsoft

guru Nathan Myhrvold, has proposed a 30-km-long hose suspended from balloons that

would pump liquefied sulfur dioxide (a gas emitted when volcanoes erupt) into the

    stratosphere.

y Show them the moneyLast year, a US House of Representatives committee held its first hearing on climate

engineering but shed away from funding any proposals. We need a balanced, open, publicly

    funded research program, says Keith.

    The back and forth

A tiny investment in climate engineering might be able to reduce as much of global

warmings effects as trillions of dollars spent on emission reductions.

    Viewpoint: A costless journey

    by Michael C. Guinita

In the recent years, technology has flourished a lot. Latest discoveries have changed the

lifestyles of people, even in simplest things they have and do.

With technology comes the change in the way people treat books.

Books are a product of age-long technology. The process of printing pages into a sheaf and

binding them between covers has given color to the world. These bring happiness and satisfaction to

those who love to travel to an undiscovered world, with virtually no cost at all.

These have been around for so long, but now, they are facing a very big threat the

    Internet.

Because of the Internet, books are said to gradually become obsolete. No one cares to open

a book, for e-books can be downloaded from the Web for free or at a lower price.

This has even made a great impact to the youth of today. They seldom visit the library and

flip the pages of a book, for the Web gives them the required information faster than books can do.

Most would say that books are a thing of the past. Actually, books had taken a major step in

this world. And the footprints would stay forever.

No matter what happens, books are the most reliable sources of information. Their contents

are carefully analyzed by distinguished authors who are experts in their fields whereas Internet

sources are not reliable due to the fact that anyone can edit it without knowing the truth behind

    what they input.

Technologies may have tried to come and replace them, but books are here to stay. These

hold the identity of the world and bring the content of the future. For someone to travel, he doesnt

even need to pack up and pay for expensive plane or cruise tickets, because all he needs is a book to

go to a world he has never explored before.

    The Fight of the Year

    by Joy P. Ybas

The world is anticipating to witness the third clash of the worlds two best fighters inside the

    ring.

Our very own pound-for-pound king Manny Pacman Pacquiao has to finish his business

with Mexicos two-time Welterweight Champion Juan Manuel El Dinamita Marquez by defending

his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Welterweight title this November 13, 2011 (Manila time) at

the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The peoples buzzing voices are heard everywhere betting on who will win. Will it be

    Pacquiao or Marquez?

Due to this, a survey was made asking people who their bet is for the years greatest boxing

    event.

Mr. Danilo Polias, a third year Math teacher, gave his opinion. He said, Pacquiao! Its very

obvious. Its even based on statistics.

Definitely, Pacquiao. Because Im a Filipino and besides, he is a master in his field, Mr.

Rey Tan, a computer teacher, proudly said.

Physics teacher Gerald Daniot made his bet. He said, I go for Manny. He had undergone

    intensive training.

Manny, because he is more aggressive, more prepared and more experienced compared to

Marquez, said Ivan Jef Rafols, a fourth year high school student.

Many have said positively that Manny Pacquiao will win against Juan Manuel Marquez, but

on the other hand, Jewel Mariz Romo, a 15-year old, made her choice. Of course, Marquez, she

said. Because they had broken each others faces for two times, so Marquez is now more familiar to

    Pacquiaos moves and techniques.

Marquez is my bet, Adrian Pidor, a garbage collector, answered the worlds biggestquestion. He is very confident.

Iris Blanche Dagatan, a pilot student, said, Marquez will win. He is a counterpuncher and

everytime he gives a jab, its more intense.

These replies were just a small part of the peoples pulse for the Pacquiao-Marquez fight. But

one reply from a basketball fanatic, Louie Jay Remedio, broke the ice as he said, The boxer I go for

is the one who is more experienced, one who is fast and the one who has defeated numerous boxing

superstars. And that is Manny Pacquiao.

    Something Glitters Under the Cloak

    by Jamil A. Calima

Not all that glitters are gold, but from the darkest of mud, the brightest of them are born

and are hammered to perfection. To think of it and to plant it on the deepest chambers of our

concern, its absolutely true. Mi amigo, when you think of being the talk of the crowd, you woulddefinitely feel a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

When God above sprinkled to us His bounty and gifts of glory, not all of us humans are

awake to catch it. But a few are lucky enough to have their alarms ringing at midnight. On the

contrary, those who fell on deep slumber were also lucky to have Gods caring presence that hugs

    them on their sweetest dreams.

As a matter of fact, here in our second abode, the Mandaue City Comprehensive National

High School, many have their own abilities and talents. Havent you seen them? No one knows what

they are disguised in. They might be your seatmate, or the guy thats next to you in a queue, or one

who has stepped on your shoe in the canteen. Yes, believe it or not, Im saying nothing but the

    truth.

Unfortunately, a barrier has stopped these whimsical creatures on becoming glittering stars.

Although they have these God-given gifts, people dont see it and tend to turn them down. What

they need is a helping hand, one that would give them a tap on the back when the world has left

them behind. They need the light that would enable them to see their path in a narrow crossroads

above the ravine of death and failure.

Our school, folks, that sings the melodies of the Seraphs, the schoolmates of ours that draw

the dreams of many in a stroke of their pens and brushes, our friends that talk of words of a blissful

tomorrow they are the greatest treasures our school has. Their worth is greater than the diamonds

of King Solomon or the grandeur and wealth of Rome. These gifts are the best we can offer to our

country in which we can be proud of.

Let us not forget that the treasures are within our hands, that our greater future is laid

perfectly before us. To all who are concerned, when one fails, he does not carry the name of his

school. Instead, on his shoulders are the weight of the countrys and Gods glory. The brightest of

gold we can be comes from the darkest and most crooked part of our personality.

    MCCNHS champs Eco-Patrol fair

by Eunella B. Flores and Quennie Nikki B. Paring

MCCNHS grabs the championship tilt in ABS-CBNs Eco-Patrol Fair at Abellana National

School gym last August 26, 2011.

ABS-CBN Central Visayas invited the school together with three other institutions in Cebu

to join the fair and be part of TV Patrol Central Visayas environmental segment Eco-Patrol as it

marks its first year anniversary. The said segment is centered on basic solutions to the worsening

    problem of the environment.

In the Eco-Patrol segment of TV Patrol Central Visayas, the school presented the wise use

of rainwater in school that challenged them to study the possibilty of using rainwater for drinking. It

was reported by the schools eco-patroller, Sheila P. Mahusay together with seven other Engineering

and Science Education Program (ESEP) students: Michael Guinita, Marie Charryzze Cortes,

Quennie Nikki Paring, Jose Benjie Oberes, Louie Jay Remedio and Mary Danica Bonsit. They were

supported by their advisers Mrs. Emily Cabusa and Mrs. Marina Garbo.

The main highlight of the presentation was the alternative water dispenser which purifies the

water from the schools rainwater catchment facility. They demonstrated the use of different levels

of raw ecological filters for the dispenser such as sand, gravel, marble and coconut shell charcoal.

MCCNHS got to think of the project to display for they are given the theme Earth, while

Talisay National High School got Wind, Don Carlos Gothong Memorial National High School

had Fire and Pusok National High School was assigned on Water. ABS-CBN intentionally gave

the themes hinging on the four elements of the environment since its concern is on the preservation

    of the environment.

Being the champion, the school received a brand new computer unit courtesy of M.Lhuillier,

2,000.00 worth of gift certificates fromVirginia Foods, Inc. with some of their products and other

    freebies.

The Eco-Patrol Fair was part of the celebration of TV Patrol Central Visayas 23rd

anniversary. Its aim is to be a medium to encourage students to act aid for our ailing environment

through spreading important information about it.

    Seniors lift three-peat crown

    by Jose Benjie F. Oberes

The Seniors mens volleyball team wiped their sweat after overcoming the struggle and

clinching the three-peat championship against the Juniors during the 2011 MCCNHS Intramurals at

the MCCNHS gymnasium in the Annex Campus last July 29, 2011.

The MCCNHS gym was filled with loud screams from the students for the game between

the Juniors and the Seniors. Before the game started, each team showed their preparedness by

blowing big spikes on the ground during the warm-up. It made the game more exciting and more

    thrilling to the students.

In the first set, the Seniors had smelled victory after taking a good lead. The score was

brought up through the efforts of the Seniors, Christian Alferez and Left Jhon Tormis. Alferez

found his rhythm and started to rally, giving his team the lead at 18-8, forcing the Juniors to call for

a timeout. The timeout helped the latter to cut down the lead to 5, closing the set at 25-20.

On the second set, the Juniors had adapted to the games pace and ended it with a small

margin at 25-23 in their favor. Pete Macasero and Christian Baidiango heated up the court to win the

second set. The Seniors struggled much because Alferezs spikes were constantly blocked by the

Juniors and they cant stop Macaseros spikes and Baidiangos speed in tossing the ball.

Both teams sent in their respective bench players on the last set. The game had proven itself

to be a close fight, with the scores on deadlock. The seniors starting players were back in the court

together with four of the Juniors starters plus two from the bench. The two reserved players on the

floor from the Juniors bounded some errors which resulted to the Seniors two-point lead. From

there, the seniors never looked back ending the game at 15-12.

After the game, the MCCNHS Mens Volleyball team coach, Mr. Cosme Cabusa, asked the

selected players to join his team for the Division Meet. The players would undergo hard training for

their upcoming match in order to bring home the beacon.

    Loves Way

    by Alin Mae Bacunador

I wish to tell you this

To you dear, to make some please

I wish to fly a kissIn your heart, to make a piece

But we were against each other

    Coz we hate one another

Like the molecules of oil and water

In the experiment we made together

    Like once weve tested

    Putting soap make special aid

    Molecules are now combined

    As we grow very sublime

    Ive been trying to say

Magic words of love that sway

    This maybe loves way

    To make a move halfway.

by Kimberly Mae Murphy and Alin Mae Bacunador

For the month of September, Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School

    Synergy.

Lots of activities were held within the school premises, like the poster making, collage

making, essay writing, SciDama and trivia competitions, and the Science quiz bowl.

As a part of the said event, the Science Club proposed eco-friendly projects for each of the

    two campuses.

One of which is the plant box in the Annex Campus. After the approval of the said

proposal, this project has already started and is located on both sides of the entrance gate of the

    Annex Gymnasium.

On the other hand, the project for the main campus is still waiting for approval from the

    school authorities.

Generally, the whole celebration was a success, even if no culminating program was held,

Walang awang nilapastangan at dinusta,

    tayo?
