Who’s Who at CMS:
The Georgia Highlands
Brother to Brother Chapter
The Georgia Highlands Brother 2 Brother student chapter has partnered up with Campbell Middle School to mentor male students on their road to
high school and beyond. Georgia Highlands students meet weekly to share their life
experiences and educational stories from middle school to college while giving support to students and promoting brotherhood and global citizenship.
The CMS music department has be very busy this holiday season with field trips and community
involvement. Members of the CMS Chorus dazzled the Vining’s Tree Lighting with Christmas Carols. They have
become a yearly staple to the area’s Christmas Celebration. Band contributed to the Smyrna Tree
Lighting Ceremony. Collaborating with Griffin Middle School and Campbell High School, our 8th grade and 7th grade symphonic band presented holiday music with the added fun of glow lights! In addition, the 7th grade symphonic band brought their holiday cheer to
the Peachtree Creek Living Center. Students and
residents enjoyed the experience!
Music Department Fieldtrips
Lastly, the CMS Chamber Orchestra joined the Teasley Treble
Tones at Teasley Elementary’s WinterFest. Music, crafts, and
Santa made this festive night memorable to all that attended.
The 7th and 8th grade orchestra also visited the Atlanta Sym-
phony Orchestra in December. In the program, Nature’s Sym-
phony, students listened to music inspired by the natural world.
Please contact Mrs. Clark (chorus), Mr. Selby (band), and Ms.
Piper (orchestra) for more information about these wonderful
musical ensembles!
And in the
Community!
CMS College Day The CMS Counseling Department hosted its annual College Day the CMS Way. This half-day event took place Tuesday, Dec. 20th.
Each 8th class visited four speakers--which included: college stu-dents, members of the community, and representatives from local
colleges. Presenters shared their educational stories with stu-dents. Students were engaged during the sessions, asking tons of questions. The Counseling Department also wants to send a
HUGE thanks to the Akers Mill Chipotle for providing lunch to our
guests.
If you have a story that you would like to share with our students at the 2017, College Day the CMS Way—please email
Smyrna Mayor Bacon
Educational Award

Grade CMS Student, Taninma Logan, CMS Volunteer, and Mr. Tanner, CMS Principal
A strong advocate for education, Mayor Bacon created the Mayor's Education
Awards in 2006. The awards program is held twice a year in May and Decem-
ber in Council Chambers and is carried live on Charter Cable channel 181
and streams live and on-demand. Mayor Bacon, along with City Council, rec-
ognize an outstanding student, staff member and volunteer from Smyrna ar-
ea schools, both public and private. Recipients are honored for their aca-
demic achievement, dedication and volunteer service.
Spartan Futbal Club On December 10th, Campbell Middle School sponsored
the first La Copa de Smyrna, which will occur twice a year. In the inaugural La Copa de Smyrna soccer teams from
Smitha MS, Griffin MS and Campbell MS competed for the cup! Smitha won the trophy and tournament this round, but the Campbell Spartans hope to bring the cup home in the
Spring. There was a great show of support from our parents and the players involved from all the schools, with over 300
people coming out for the first tournament. La Copa de Smyrna will be back for a second round in May and we hope to gain support from more schools in the Smyrna
community.
Mr. Stapp would like to extend a huge thank you to the teachers/sponsors who have given their Wednesday eve-nings to come out and work with our players every week, and who helped organize the tournament. We would also
like to thank Mr. Tanner, Mrs. Sherry Bell and Ms. Lashieka Govan who have been instrumental in approving equipment needed and inspiring support from the Smyrna Community.
Music Concerts
The music department presented their holiday concerts in December. Along with
standard repertoire, the band, orchestra, and chorus preformed holiday favorites.
Students enjoyed share with family and friends what they have learned over the
semester in their music classes.
