splendidly accomplished performances and wonderfulemerging talent. The choirs sang beautifully and provided anexcellent finale with the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Choirsand the Boys Singing Group all performing together. The StringOrchestra and Concert Band performed with gusto and theBeginner Strings and Band performed admirably. Many thanksmust go to the artistic direction and ongoing commitment ofMeredith Cook, Toby Stockdale and Rose Heratage.

Kindy Visits

The C&K Kindy from Camp Hill spent two mornings engagingwith our Prep classes. This provided an opportunity for ourup and coming Prep students to experience a Prep morning, engage with other students, visit some of the classrooms andexperience some outdoor play. These visits are in line with theschool’s Supporting Transition in the Early Years program. Wevalue our close relationship with the local Kindies and Day CareCentres.

Trivia Night

Saturday night saw approximately 100 of our parents meet atthe Camp Hill Bowls Club for the P&C’s annual Trivia Night. The parent teams competed with enthusiasm both in the quiz, and with their costumes, to win the coveted awards. Underthe theme of “Hollywood Movies”, we saw teams representing“Grease”, “Crackerjack”, “Police Academy”, and “Inside Out” toname but a few. The winner of the best theme was the “ToyStory” crew with “The Great Gatsby” team winning the TriviaCompetition by a very small margin.

Many thanks must go to the P&C executive who organised thiswonderful community event for parents.

Transitions for 2017

As we come to the end of the year there are manyconversations with students, parents and teachers regarding2017. Teachers will be meeting over the next few weeks toplace students into new classes. Some teachers will be movingclasses and, in some instances, year levels. As a school, weunderstand that this process of change can sometimes bechallenging for both students and their parents. If you have anyquestions or concerns, please contact the school.

Prep 2017

We have approximately 125 students enrolled for Prep in 2017,many of these have already visited the school, experienced amorning in a Prep class, or have visited with their parents ortheir Kindy. A large number of new Preps have visited recentlyfrom C&K Camp Hill, spending time in our library and visitingclassrooms.

Currently, classes are being compiled for Prep. While everyattempt is being made to place each child with a familiar face, teacher requests will not be able to be met due to classroomchanges and the sheer number of requests.

Parents of new Prep students will be invited to meet with theirnew teachers during the Pupil Free Day where they will find outall the necessary information about the class, the routine andwhat to do on the first day of school. Tea and tissues will beprovided in the morning after drop off at a designated place onthe campus.

Year 1-2017

Students going into Year 1 have been gradually transitioningover the past term. Students have been attending Parade eachWednesday, have been accessing play areas and eating areasand have been visiting Year 1 classrooms throughout the term.

An information brochure will be sent home before the end ofthe year to inform parents about the Year 1 program and anypertinent information about class organisation.

Year 3-2017

Students will spend some time being shown the SeniorCampus classrooms and meeting some of the Year 3 teachers. The move across the oval to the senior school is not the majorchange that it once used to be. Students have been spendingmuch of their playtime on the Senior Campus throughout theyear. A parent talk and tour will take place on Thursday 17thNovember from 9:00-9:30am for those parents whose childrenare transitioning from Year 2 to Year 3. Please meet outside theJunior Campus office.

Thank you to Mrs Scott for co-ordinating the BBQ and to MrsFarley for co-ordinating the raffle. Thank you also to Mrs Farleyand Mr Frearson for their piano accompaniment and Mrs Storrsfor playing clarinet.

It was a magical, musical evening!

Instrumental Music 2017

The selection process for new students for 2017 is nearlycomplete. There have been 68 applications for 34 places. Theprocess for selection is very thorough with many factors takeninto consideration. Students are given an aural test and asinging test, as being able to sing in tune is important forplaying an instrument in tune. Also, as students have lessonsduring school time, their academic marks are considered. Theyneed to be able to catch up on any work missed while theyare at their instrumental lesson. Behaviour and commitment tocompleting homework are also considered before selection ismade.

The Instrumental Program is ensemble based, not individuallessons, so it is important for students to be able to keep pacewith the group and be committed to home practice 5 days perweek.

If your child is not selected, please consider private lessonsfor their instrument of choice. If you contact The Qld Music

Teachers Association they can usually give you the names ofmusic teachers in your area.

You will be notified of the outcome sometime during the nextweek.

Continuing Instrumental Students

All students who have been learning an instrument throughout2016 are expected to continue in 2017. If your child has beenasked to purchase a new tutor book for 2017, please makesure that they have the book for their first instrumental lesson atthe start of next year.

Students who have been using a school instrument during theyear will now need to purchase their own instrument. Pleasecontact Mrs Cook [email protected] , Mr [email protected] , or Ms Heratage [email protected] , if yourequire assistance with the purchase of an instrument.

Habits of the MindThe aim of the You Can Do It program isto strengthen the five social andemotional skills and values (the ‘5 Keys’)which all children need to manage.

The Year 2 and 3 students have engaged inmaking ‘Resilience’ chatterboxes. Whenfaced with upset feelings such as anger, sadness or worry, the chatterboxes identifysome ways in which these emotions may make us feel and thensuggest things we can do to be more resilient:
