Dome Features 3

This section of the manual is designed to provide basic description of the PTZ camera and its functions. Actual operation may vary slightly dependent on the control methods and DVR/PTZ keyboard utilized. 3.1 Automatic Camera Actions

• Proportional Pan/Zoom When the PTZ-2000-10 camera is zoomed in, the PTZ camera automatically limits the panning speed to provide more precise control of the camera. As the camera is returned to a wider view, the full speed panning is proportionately restored to full speed.

• Auto Flip If the user holds the joystick in the downwards direction, this camera will automatically pan 180 degrees once the camera reaches a position where it is looking straight down. This enables the user to easily track something in the cameras view even as it passes below the camera.

• Park Action In the OSD Menu, the user can specify an action to be performed when the camera has not been controlled in a few minutes. Available actions include: auto-call preset, run tour, pattern or scan.

• Power Up Action In the OSD Menu, the user can specify an action to be performed when the camera is initially powered on. Available actions include; auto-call preset, run tour, pattern or scan.

3.2 Camera Control • Magnification Control

The user can adjust the zoom of the image through the “Wide/Tele” commands on a PTZ Keyboard or DVR with RS-485 controls. This speed dome supports optical and digital zoom capabilities.

• Focus Control The PTZ-2000-10 system defaults to Auto-Focus. When the lens changes to zoom in or out, the lens will automatically adjust the focus according to the objects in the center of the camera’s view. The user can manually adjust the focus of the camera by using a PTZ Keyboard with “Far/Near” buttons or with DVR using the Far/Near commands through RS-485 control. Once the joystick is manipulated to move the camera, the Auto-Focus will be re-enabled again. The camera cannot auto-focus in the following situations:

o Target is not at the center of the image o Camera is observing objects in the foreground and background at the same

time o Target is a strong light object such as a spotlight o Target is moving too fast o Target is too dark or vague o Target image is too small

Pan, Tilt and Zoom Dome Camera / PTZ-2000-10

Dome Features 3

• Iris Control System defaults to Auto-Iris. Camera can rapidly adjust size of Iris, this adjusts the amount of light that is allowed into the image sensor of the camera. User may adjust the Iris by a PTZ Controller keyboard using the “Open/Close” key or through a DVR with RS-485 PTZ Controls. User can reassume Auto-Iris control by simply moving the camera again using the joystick.

• Auto Backlight Compensation The PTZ-2000-10 can automatically compensate for backlight conditions. The camera will automatically adjust the brightness of certain areas of the image in order to brighten an object that is being affected by a backlit condition.

• Auto White Balance The camera will automatically adjust the white balance of the image based on the lightness of the image to help restore true color even in very bright or dim conditions.

3.3 Monitor Functions

• Set and Recall Preset Positions The preset positions are specific positions that can be programmed into the PTZ Camera using your PTZ Controller, which allows you to save up to 128 preset positions and recall them quickly for rapid camera movement.

• Tour This camera has built-in Tour capabilities, which allows you to automatically cycle through preset positions in a specific order and time delay. The Tour Dwell will determine how long a camera will stay on a specific preset position before moving on to the next position.

• Scan

The user can easily set up the PTZ-2000-10 camera to scan between a left and right point smoothly. This function is popular for a continuous back and forth scanning motion to view around corners and more.

• Pattern Built-in to the camera is the ability to memorize and playback a specific pan/tilt/zoom pattern for smooth and seamless coverage of important areas. Each PTZ-2000-10 can memorize and playback up to 4 pattern tours.

• Lens Position Display The Lens Position Display is used to determine the exact position of the camera. When the camera is powered up, it runs through a power on self test. After the test, the camera returns to Zero Position, which is a 0 value for Pan and Tilt. The Pan value can be between 0-360 and Tilt 0-90.

3.4 Temperature Control The PTZ-2000-10 camera monitors the internal temperature inside the dome, once the internal temperature raises above the specified level in the OSD Menu, the fan will automatically start. This will help to improve the stability of the camera by helping to reduce the temperature of the electronic components inside the dome.

Too many RS-485 devices connected, too small RS-

485 cable or too much

Connect the 120 Ohm resistor; Increase cable thickness to compensate

for loss 9.3. Cleaning

From time to time, it may be necessary to clean the dome cover of the PTZ-2000-10 Indoor/Outdoor PTZ Mini-Dome camera in order to restore a clear picture. • Be careful when cleaning the dome, do

not touch directly with your fingers as the sweat from your hands can etch the dome cover.

• Use a soft dry cloth or microfiber cloth to clean inside and outside dome covers.

• Use mild LCD cleaners if necessary to dissolve any difficult to remove materials

9.4. RS485 Control Information

• Characteristics of RS-485 Control As specified by the RS-485 standard, the RS-485 Bus is half-duplex data transmission with 120 Ohm impedance. The maximum load capacity is 32 RS-485 devices, including the controller equipment.

• RS-485 Transmission Distance The following transmission distances are applicable for 24 AWG twisted pair wires as data transmission cables:

Baud Rate Max Distance 2400 BPS 1800m 4800 BPS 1200m 9600 BPS 800m 19200 BPS 600m

If the user selects thinner cables, or installs the dome in an environment with strong electromagnetic interference or connects too many cameras to the RS-485 Bus, then the maximum distance will decrease.

• Connection and Termination Resistor The RS-485 Bus requires 120 Ohm resistors when many cameras are daisy chained together on the RS-485 Bus.

• Connection of 120 Ohm Resistor The 120 Ohm resistor for the RS-485 bus is included on the PTZ-2000-10 camera. Simply select the Jumper setting as shown in Picture 9-4.3

Appendix 9

• Problems in practical connection In some circumstances, the user might connect the cameras to an RS-485 bus in a star pattern. If this is the fact, then camera #’s 1 and 15 in diagram 9-4.4 will require the 120 Ohm resistor to be set. This star configuration is not supported by the RS-485 standards, so this configuration may not provide stable operation and can cause intermittent problems with PTZ Control.

If you must use a direct pattern, it is recommended to use an RS-485 distributor such as is found in Diagram 9-4.5

• RS485 Bus Troubleshooting

Trouble Possible Cause Solution Dome runs self-test but cannot

be controlled A. The Address and baud

rate are incorrect B. The polarity of the RS-

485 wires are incorrect

C. Bad Connection D. Open Circuit or bad

controller in RS-485 Bus

A. Change the Address and Baud rate to match the bus

B. Fix polarity on the RS-485 Cables and retest

C. Reconnect cables D. Test and Change the

wires if needed

The Dome can be controlled but there are intermittent

problems

A. The RS485 Bus is not connected securely to the camera

B. One wire of RS-485 bus is broken

C. The dome is far from controller

D. There are too many domes connected

A. Repair the connection between the Bus and the Camera

B. Replace RS485 wires C. Add Termination

resistors D. Install RS-485
