Flood Victim Mission Trip Mission Trip Over Columbus Day Holiday Weekend In June there was extensive flooding in several states (including VA and WV). Although the waters have receded, there is still need for help with cleanup and getting homes and businesses back to normal. Pastor Matthew (who has family and friends living in the flooded areas of WV) is coordinating a short (over a weekend) adult mission trip to Greenbrier County, West Virginia, one of the places hardest hit by the flooding. This will be a 2-day work trip with two days of travel. We will leave on Thursday, October 6 and return on Sunday, October 9 (working on Friday and Saturday, October 7-8). The cost is $20/day, plus expenses related to food during travel. We will travelling to Greenbrier County, WV, Here is the link to register: https://www.servicenetwork.com/reg/APPSERV/Join.asp?Group=5778 Specific projects and other details are still being finalized . If you are interested in helping or have any questions, please e-mail [email protected] with your skills and other helpful information.

Contributions to Calvary Communion Offering Supports Pastor’s Discretionary Fund This fund is used by Pastor Matthew for local (Arlington) relief needs. You can donate by placing a contribution in the baskets placed at the outer aisles as you return to your seat after receiving communion. Thank you for supporting those in need.

E-Giving is Safe and Secure If you missed church on a Sunday because of the weather, illness, or vacation you can be sure your offering is counted if you have signed up for E-Giving. Check it out! Through e-giving there is an option to give regularly or you can also give as a one-time guest. Thank you for supporting Calvary UMC.

Preschool Looking for... Do you have one of those felt-backed, plastic tablecloths around your house? Maybe it has a Christmas design, or a Halloween picture, or some lovely flowers? Calling all folks who like children! It’s time to sign up to share God’s love with children on Sunday mornings! One hour blocks are open each week. Training, support, and materials are provided! Our children’s program is available from 8:30 through our 11 service. A background check is required to work with the children. If Sundays don’t work for you, we have weekday opportunities as well. Additionally, our Family Ministry hosts opportunities that are occasional (Backpack giveaways, college box collection, Christmas parties, Day of Service events on Maundy Thursday, etc.) and Vacation Bible School (summer). OR, volunteer to send out birthday cards! There’s an opportunity to impact the children and youth of our community for everyone! Please contact Beth Posey.

Prayer Corner This is a space where prayers can be shared and lifted up. It will now provide the names of people or circumstances that are in need of prayer so that we can all pray for sorrows, joys, trials, and celebrations. The reason for prayer may not be included (for privacy considerations). If you would like to add a name to this list (please check to be sure it’s okay to share), please submit it in writing by using a prayer card during worship or sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Names will be kept on the list for one month unless a written extension or removal is requested. The date following each name is when the request was submitted to the church office. This week we pray for: Wayne who had knee surgery (8/23) Gloria Parker who is planning a mission trip to Kenya in

2017 and considering a call to the Mission Field We continue to pray for: Steven T., who has blood clots (8/15) Gus Bronson (8/8) The family of Lynn Copeland Buckles, whose father, Earl,
