“NEWS from EL SALVADOR”
The US State Department has issued a travel warning for El Salvador because of the heightened danger of kidnapping and robbery. Because of this warning, members of our El Salvador Mission Team have decided it would be best not to travel to El Salvador in December. The trip will be postponed until summer. The flip-flops collected for our sister parish families, are boxed up and will be shipped to Pastor Matias for distribution. In addition, the money we raised from our generous congregation at the car wash will be held in our mission account for the next trip. Please keep the people of El Salvador in your prayers as they navigate these troubling times.
Another longstanding issue for the mission team has been the difficulty shipping a water filtration system, which was purchased for the people of Spirit of Joy some time ago. We are hopeful that, through a connection by David Shirlen, the Hanes Company in Winston-Salem will be able to help us with the transport. Pastor Mike has been working with a Hanes Logistics officer who believes we can make this happen. In addition, the flip-flops may be able to be shipped along with the water tank. Hanes has offered this help free of charge. Thanks to God for guiding us in our efforts to serve our brothers and sisters in the Salvadoran Lutheran Church
We are grateful to God for the relationship
with our sisters and brothers at Spirit of Joy
Lutheran Church in Brisas del Valle, El
Salvador. Pastor Matias sent some pictures
(attached) of a recent worship service and
receiving of the food we offer to the church
families each month. Several of the pictures
were taken inside the beautiful sanctuary
we helped them to build. There are also
pictures of the many children in their
congregation, and the classes they teach for
their faith formation. We pray for the
continued grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
in the lives of our sister parish community,
and the pastoral team, Pastor Matias Bonilla
and his wife Martina.
If you would like to send a Christmas
Greeting to our friends at Spirit of Joy and/
or to Pastor Matias and Martina and their
family...you may bring card(s) or handwrit-
ten notes to the church office anytime before
December 5. We will mail the greetings
altogether to Pastor Matias. Creative and
colorful cards are encouraged!

I would like to thank everyone who sent cards and offered kind expressions of sympathy at the recent passing of my sister, Kathryn.
Lois and I so appreciated your kindness.

Dear Calvary Family, The outpouring of Love during my recent hospital-ization and sickness was overwhelming. A heart-felt Thank You to all the Calvary family for your prayers, visit, card, flowers, meals, well wishes and encouragement. Your Love was felt and has defi-nitely helped!
May God bless you! Eric Stuenkel
THANK YOU
PRAISE GOD AND.YIPPEE! This is just a shared joy over the Council decision about utilizing the Moore bequest! I have images of their shared smiles as they discerned how to most faithfully and joyfully distribute the fine gift of this bequest. It is a blessed precedent, I believe, one that helps us appreciate the joy in letting go of God's surprise blessings to us. I also will enjoy the witness made to our community. Thank you, Father, for allowing us to be part of Your caring for the brothers and sisters in need of a hand in our home place. Yippee! Garry Vogelpohl
Dear Rev. Riley, Mr. Kern and
Members of Calvary,
Thank you for your generous donation. The support
of Calvary Lutheran means so much to Options.

MOORE BEQUEST ENABLES GIFTS TO COMMUNITY
Council President Chris Kern and Pastor Mike were blessed to deliver monetary gifts to four agencies in the Morganton community last month.
The House of Refuge, Burke United Christian Ministries, Options, and The Outreach Center each received a check for $5,000, made possible by a bequest from the es-tate of Melbern and Melita Moore.
The Moores were former members of Calvary. All of these agencies serve many people, who are in great need. We are thankful to share God's love and grace in such a special way.

Lenoir– Rhyne University thanks the congregation
of Calvary Lutheran Church for the donation of 140
folding chairs. The LR Conferences & Events De-
partment is often requested to set up a large number
of chairs for Enrollment Management events and
special events at the President’s House. This dona-
tion will improve our inventory and allow Confer-
ences & Events to better support these Lenoir–
Rhyne University events.
Thank you for your generosity,
Janet Matthews Director, Conference & Events Lenoir-Rhyne University

Garry Harding plans to step down as Treasurer in January 2014
Over the past years, the need for accurate, comprehensive financial reports has grown in im-portance for CLC. The two key individuals in making this happen are Judie Huffman, Financial Sec-retary and Garry Harding, Treasurer. Both work diligently to ensure that we get financial information on a timely basis. Garry began as Financial Secretary, and then transitioned over to Treasurer after Charles Ed-wards decided to step down in late 2006. Judie became Financial Secretary in late 2006 and has been serving for seven years. We owe them both our gratitude and sincere thanks for their personal minis-tries. Understandably, Garry wants to step down from his Treasurer’s role in January 2014, after the CPA review of CLC financials. We will miss Garry in this role. However, we hope that another of our members will view this as an opportunity to step forward and serve our church in a very meaning-ful way. The Treasurer role is critical and requires skill with numbers and attention to details. If you have an interest in learning more about the Treasurer’s responsibilities, please contact Chris Kern or Henry Sain. We look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Finance Board and Church Council

Blessings Abound… The 2014 Stewardship program was successful because of YOU. You responded to God’s love by sharing willingly of your time, talents and resources. Thank you very much!!!
This year there was greater participation in both the pledging aspect and the completion of the TIME and TALENT forms. Because of your willingness to help, the ministries of Calvary will move forward.
If for some reason, you did not get your pledge turned in or your Time & Talent form complet-ed, it is not too late. Sherri Morris, Henry Sain, Jim Voltmer, Mike Imboden or Margaret Miller can and will help you get the needed materials to do either one.
Thank you again. You are each valuable members of the
Calvary Church Family.
Blessings, The Stewardship Team
