MISSION TRIP OPPORTUNITIES THROUGHOUT 2019
From Your Pastor
Summer is fast approaching. The weather is turning warmer and everything is in bloom. For many this means hitting the road for trips and traveling. Some to visit family and some to just get a break from the everyday grind. This means setting the old GPS or map fea-ture on your phone and heading out, being guided by the encouraging voice coming from the device. We are reliant on the instructions that we are given to arrive at our intended destination.Psalm 23 describes the spiritual leading that we are given. It is a very familiar passage of scripture to most people. I have found myself reflecting over the words of David these past few weeks. The considerations of God as a caring shepherd give incredible insights into His care and love for us. The passage acknowledges the careful guidance of the shepherd, and the effect of His guidance on the sheep. The shepherd is a leader. He leads to green pastures, and leads besides still waters. He also leads us in paths of righteousness for His namesake. We can easily see the importance of walking in righteousness, but I fear we often mistake the purpose. First, it is the Lord who leads us in this. He is the Shepherd and leader. Sec-ondly, we see the purpose for His leading. It is His name's sake. God’s glory is the greatest desire we could have. Our obedience brings Him glory as we demonstrate his worth and power. The mistake we make is to think that our righteousness is about ourselves and our own glory. We seek to elevate ourselves instead of Jesus. We must always remember why we are led in paths of righteousness. It is for Him, that He would receive glory. As the summer approaches there are a number of places that you might find yourself, but the question is, will you allow the Lord to lead you? He is a shepherd who knows what is best for His sheep, and who loves His sheep.

What is it about a good mystery that fascinates us? Maybe it’s just the excitement of trying to figure out what’s being kept secret in a good story or movie. Whether it’s a book or a movie, the payoff always comes in the big reveal at the end. These mysteries are fun, but there’s a much different kind of mystery that’s infinitely greater found in the pages of scripture.
The Christian’s confidence and hope are built on what once was a mystery but now has been made plain through the gospel. The mystery that the New Testament talks so much about is the hidden wisdom of God that was so obscure to Old Testament saints. This glo-rious mystery now revealed is how God reconciles sinners to Himself through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Coming up in May, we’ll be learning a new hymn called, “Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery”. It was written in 2013 by Matt Boswell, Michael Bleecker and Matt Papa. The hymn begins with Christ’s incarnation then traces the greatness of his sinless life through His willing atonement for our sins to the glory of his return and our final transformation into His likeness. What a privilege we have of knowing and resting in what saints of old could not even imagine!
Come behold the wondrous mysterySlain by death the God of life.
But no grave could e’er restrain HimPraise the Lord; He is alive!
What a foretaste of deliverance. How unwavering our hope.Christ in power resurrected,
As we will be when he comes.

College Students - We invite you to come sing with us this summer!!
It’s hard to believe that the school year is almost over! Summer is almost here! We have many student ministry events on the calendar, and I cannot wait to spend that time with our students. Between MissionFuge, Super Summer, senior trip, and everything in between, this summer is going to be a blast!
Summer affords us the opportunity to invest in a couple of college students each year as they come on board to serve as youth ministry interns. This year, I am excited to bring Rachel Lee on board for a second summer! Her work last summer was incredible, and I know the same will be true this year. Dee Stegall will also be serving as an intern. Dee is a former student of mine from Smithville who is now at Mississippi State. He has a lot of experience volunteering with students, and many of our students already know him from previous years in which he served as a small group leader at D-Now (now called Matrix).
Would you commit to praying for Rock throughout the summer? We are asking the Lord to use our efforts and the various events to draw students closer to Him, calling them to a deeper walk. We pray that our students will find themselves entering the next school year with a stronger commitment to Jesus and a desire to serve Him in whatever way He calls them. Pray for our interns and volunteers. Pray for adults who will lead on trips. Pray for students (if you want a list of names for which you can pray, I would be happy to give you that!). More than anything, pray that Christ will be exalted in the lives of our students!
