Finish Strong: On this sunny spring morning, I’m so proud to look across our JMS and JHS cam-

pus and recognize that many Monroe County students will be here today to participate in

Special Olympics. Jefferson has been the host site for this activity for many years. Spring

sports are in full swing. Students throughout the district are readying themselves for the vari-

ous spring arts programs that will be here soon. May is a crazy, busy, but fun month. One

would think that we would be “winding down,” but truly we are finishing the school year at

our strongest!

Testing Update: Also during this spring season, students in grades 3 through 11 are in the

midst of testing mandated by the State of Michigan. While these tests are imperative, in that

these scores are what holds the district accountable in the State of Michigan’s eyes, our stu-

dents are more than these test scores. As the district strives to continue the implementation of

the MI-EXCEL Blueprint process, much more data than one snapshot test score is used to reaf-

firm our curriculum and instruction. Each and every day, our teachers are on the forefront of

implementing curriculum and readjusting instruction to meet the needs of our students.

Sinking Fund Update: Voters approved, in May of 2014, a sinking fund to continue the up-

keep and maintenance of district facilities. As the district continues to prioritize projects, this

summer, like the past two will be quite busy. Planned projects include:

Sealcoating of the previous asphalt projects

Continued repair and/or replacement of roof sections at JHS and JMS

Updating of a restroom at JMS

Repair of North Elementary playground and manhole replacements

We are so grateful that this community has the commitment to investing in the future of our

students through this Sinking Fund

On a personal note, I want to thank everybody on the well wishes as I assumed the Superin-tendency on an interim basis. Only with the help of the parents and community can this district continue the long tradition of excellence and Bear Pride!

BEAR PRIDE!

Great job Drew!!

April is Autism Awareness Month and all of the students at North Elementary received a puzzle necklace to wear. They were made by Handy Helpers, Service Club and the LINKS. These clubs are under the direction

Breakfast Logic

Breakfast is a good thing! When students need to take achievement tests, schools strongly urge them to eat breakfast first on testing days. Why? Be-cause we know that when students eat breakfast, they perform better and are better able to concentrate. Yet on “normal” days, many students fail to eat breakfast: they’re too busy, too tired, or just don’t know what to eat. Let’s help students to perform better every day, by making sure they eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school. Breakfast Serving Times: High School - 7:00-7:30 a.m. Middle School - 7:15-7:25 a.m. North- 8:05-8:25 a.m. Sodt & E.C.C. - 8:25-8:50 a.m.
