Who? How Many? Where? Why?Rotary consists of a group of over 1,200,000 men and
women who belong to 34,000 Clubs around the world.
Rotary is not religiously or politically oriented.
Rotary members adhere to the Four-Way Test: Of the things we think, say or do:1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Service Above SelfYou know the Golden Rule: ‘One should treat others
as one would like others to treat oneself’. Rotary follows an extraordinary rule:
We believe in Service Above Self
“It means looking at your own effort, not in terms of what it costs you, but in terms of what it can give. In this way, we are inspired to do so much more… we do the most we can to build Peace Through Service.” 1

What Happens at a Meeting? We have a great lunch.
We celebrate members’ achievements.
We hear a few good jokes and the odd groaner .
We have a speaker who tries to make us all wiser in about 20 minutes. (See a list of upcoming speakers at http://chinookrotary.org)
A member fines us (very moderately) for almost any misdemeanor he/she can imagine – and the money goes to charity, of course. It’s all in fun!!

Additional RevenuesThe Club can apply for and often receives grants from the Province of Alberta, Rotary International District 5360 and the Rotary International Foundation.
This permits the Club to lever up its Club donations, sometimes very substantially.
What happens to all that income?
The Club has administrative expenses which of course must be paid. The Board tries to keep those expenses at a minimum.
The remainder can be distributed to local or international charities.
How do those charities feel about our donations?
