is a rescue organization whose mission is to recover, rehabilitate and permanently rehome New Mexico’s small companion dogs who find themselves living in shelters, unsuitable homes or navigating other harsh conditions.

Lap Dog Rescue of New Mexico was founded during the mid-1990’s by Marie Steele and tamara Marquez-Nugent and granted its Federal 501C-3 status as a non-profit charitable organization in 2001. LDRNM is overseen today by Marie’s son, Brian Spence, President of LDRNM, and supported by dedicated volunteers from all over the state. Our small army of animal champions enables us to respond whenever the need arises and wherever it arises.

- Rudy brings smiles to everyone he meets.

Rudy was abandoned in front of the Rio Rancho shelter and Mom worked there and fell in love.

He had chemical burns and needed treatment, he never yaps.

He just loves everyone. He’s a certified therapy dog who visits the genisis nursing home and goes to a Beehive home to visit.

He has 4 other rescued pups who live with him.

Favorites: He like to snuggle in blankets and at 6 and a half pounds he naps when getting lap time pets and love. He has a sweet personality. He’s turned 15 in December 2018.

Personality traits: He was adopted from PAcA cat rescue with his sister. Sting is a big boy who is a bit lazy and when he runs his tummy sways.

He greets us for a belly rub and is thoughtful to jump up to get those on a high surface for easy access. He can open any any drawer, door or cabinet in the house.

He is a true escape artist, he can open a locked door to get to the back yard.

Favorites: Mom is his person, the other sisters Beyonce and Lily - (cats) Brother - Bono (Standard poodle) keep him company.

- He has two big sisters that he bosses around that are much bigger than him, a Rottweiler named Daisy and a Lab named Mia.

- Jack makes everyone he meets happy, his infectious personality just makes you smile!

Personality traits: He’s a baby at a year old and a ball of energy, a gift from Santa in 2017. He’s loving and loves to give kisses, such a sweetheart.

He’s playful with the children in the house - his kids are Brett 9 and Sienna 5 yrs old ... they can do anything to him and he’s putty in their hands.

He treats this lab momma like gold - Mia and his sister is Daisy Rotty/lab Mix... Daisy puts him in a headlock one minute then cuddling the next.

He likes his cat very much. He likes to cuddle with his blanket. He likes his walks and begs to go. when he see his leash, it’s over. He runs with his person for 2 miles and is very athletic. He enjoys barking.

Likes to play paw tag... loves to play and run. He curls into a little ball in his down blanket to sleep and then snores. He’s a true lap dog.

Personality traits: Boy oh boy, she has “Shiba tude” Foxy little lady. 7 month old still a puppy. Miss independent, loving, loves to give kisses.

She is a brat to her big brother who is 14+ and loves chasing the cat, Macy, Tom & Jerry style.

She lives in a home full of loved fur babies - 2 dogs and 2 rescued cats and a 22 + year old snake.

Favorites: treat - popcorn, bark pops and rotisserie chicken.

At puppy kindergarten she was voted, social butterfly and she wants it mentioned she is pesky with her big brother, not a brat.
