The presentation Consumption/ Waste – the main points

Environm. friendly Laugal.school: Suggestions from students

We are using Earth´s resources faster than they can be replenished. Humanity´s ecological footprint is estimated at 1.5 Earths. We are “borrowing” resources from future generations, polluting heavily and putting pressure on tipping points in the natural system.

We can´t “pay the loan” unless we live sustainably: Don´t use Earth´s resources faster than it can produce them. Lets use Earth´s resources wisely, that is, without preventing people in the future from using them.

The law of conservation of mass tells us that waste remains on Earth. In the natural world the waste of one organism become nutrient for other organims.

Humans, on the other hand, produce enormous amounts of waste that nature can´t recycle and therefore it pollutes the environment.

But we can, with cooperation, good will and creativity reduce waste production.

-Sort waste/more bins

-More education/environm. Science classes

-Pick up garbage on the school zone once a month

-Use garbage to make art in art class

-Get credits for walking or cycling to school

-Collection competition (cans &bottles) between classes

-Use towels in lavatoriesinstead of paper tissues

-More efficient e-teaching/stop printing home assignments

-Bring food without packaging in a lunch box

-Use eco-friendly cleaning products instead of the chemical

now being used

-Save electricity/turn computers and lights off
