THURSDAY’S KEENELAND RESULTS

Trainer Bob Baffert has de-clared Secret Circle, a four-timestakes winner who was a well-beaten second to Bodemeister inSaturday’s Arkansas Derby, outof the Kentucky Derby.

Baffert told Daily RacingForm that the son of Eddingtonwill get some time off and notstart in the May 5 Derby. SecretCircle was on the equine charterthat brought horses from Arkan-sas to Kentucky earlier thisweek. Baffert said the colt wasundergoing precautionary med-ical tests at a veterinary clinic inLexington on Thursday. He toldDRF that surgery was not ex-pected.

Owned by the partnership ofMike Pegram, Karl Watson andPaul Weitman, Secret Circle haswon 5 of 7 starts and $1,018,990.

His elimination from Derbyconsideration pretty much guar-antees that Risen Star winner ElPadrino will make the 20-horsefield. That’s even if two horsesconsidered questionable to en-ter — Liaison and Trinniberg —

wind up running.Baffert still has possible fa-

vorite Bodemeister in the raceas he shoots for a fourth Derbyvictory. He also trains Liaison, who finished sixth in the SantaAnita Derby. He’s said he’ll seehow that horse is training beforecommitting to the race.

Baffert also lost a potentialtop Kentucky Oaks contender inPrincess Arabella, who has beentaken out of training because ofa minor soft-tissue injury.

“It’s hugely disappointing,”said Baffert, who trains the fillyfor John Fort’s Peachtree Sta-ble. “Mr. Fort has Mamma Kim-bo to carry the flag in the Oaks, but I wish it was Princess Ara-bella.”

Baffert said Princess Arabel-la will not undergo surgery andhas been sent to Taylor MadeFarm in Nicholasville, Ky., forrecovery.

She has won her three career

starts by a combined 15 lengths, most recently the $200,000 Sun-land Park Oaks by eight lengthson March 25.

$100K bettor namedJoel Einhorn, a racing fan for

more than a half-century, wonthe biggest bet of his life.

Einhorn, of Flushing, N.Y.,was randomly selected to get thechance to place a $100,000 bet onthe Kentucky Derby. The freewager is in conjunction with the$100,000 Kentucky DerbyDreamBet online contest, whichwas offered by ChurchillDowns, NBC Sports and CNBCfor the third consecutive year.

Einhorn hopes to follow in thefootsteps of inaugural contestwinner Glen Fullerton of Hous-ton, who won $900,000 when Su-per Saver won the 2010 Ken-tucky Derby at odds of 8-1.

Last year Dave “Rico” Floresof Chicago fell short when Mu-cho Macho Man finished thirdbehind Animal Kingdom.
