Make these adorable monsters and learn the Double Crochet Stitch at the same time.

● Size 5 mm/H-8 crochet hook

INSTRUCTIONSBodyWith Color A and leaving a long end for sewing, chain 14.

Row 1: Double crochet in fourth chain from hook (3 skipped chains count as first double crochet) and in each chain across: 12 double crochets.

Small Monster ONLYRows 2–16: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), turn; double crochet in next double crochet and in each double crochet across.

Large Monster ONLYRows 2–18: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), turn; double crochet in next double crochet and in each double crochet across.

Both MonstersFinish off by cutting the yarn leaving a long tail for sewing. Pull the tail through the last loop on the hook and gently tighten to prevent the stitches from unraveling.

Fold Monster in half with last row and beginning chain together. Thread yarn needle with last long end and sew side seam.

Thread yarn needle with an 8" (20.5 cm) strand of Color A and sew second side seam.

Stuff lightly with polyester fiberfill.

Thread yarn needle with first long end and sew bottom seam.

FINISHINgLARGE MONSTER ONLYLegsWith Color C, add a straight stitch along Rows 1-3 between sixth and seventh stitches for Legs.

HairCut thirty-three 5" (12.5 cm) long strands of Color B.

Fold 3 strands in half, insert hook between first two stitches at top edge, hook folded end and pull through stitches (Fig. A), hook ends and pull through folded end, pull tightly (Fig. B).

Repeat between stitches across top edge.

Trim ends.

EyeUsing patterns below, cut a large oval from White felt and a small oval from Black felt.

Glue White oval to Black oval to form Eye. Glue wiggle eye to Black oval. Using photo as a guide for placement, glue Eye to Monster.

SMALL MONSTER ONLYHairCut eighteen 5" (12.5 cm) long strands of Color B.

Fold 6 strands in half, insert hook between sixth and seventh stitches at top edge, hook folded end and pull through stitches (Fig. A), hook ends and pull through folded end, pull tightly (Fig. B). Repeat between fourth and fifth stitches and between eighth and ninth stitches at top edge for remaining hair.

Trim ends.

Eye (Make 3)Using patterns below, cut 3 large ovals from White felt and 3 small ovals from Black felt.

Glue one Black oval to one White oval to form an Eye. Repeat with remaining ovals.

Glue a wiggle eye to each Eye.

Using photo as a guide for placement, glue Eyes to Monster.
