CAROL MCLAUGHLIN | One of the Buffalo area’s most-recognized jazz musicians, Carol has been a woodwinds & brass teacher at CMS since 1981. He earned his Associate’s degree in Science at Erie Community College & a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also studied jazz composition at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. Prior to teaching, Carol was the band

leader for the Eastern Steam Ship Line & Carnival Cruise Lines. He has performed alongside such luminaries as Ruth Brown, Brook Benton, Johnny Mathis & Sammy Davis, Jr. He founded the Carol McLaughlin Quartet & the Carol McLaughlin Big Band, a 17-piece jazz band, which performs for area events & corporate functions. His quartet & big band have played in such venues as the Colored Musicians Club, the Seneca Niagara Casino & the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. He also performs with Joe Baudo’s Big Band. He has released recordings with Sam Falzone & the Buffalo Jazz Workshop. His big band released a CD entitled “Two Hearts & A Diamond” in 2000. Carol offers individual lessons in flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn & recorder at the CMS Elmwood & Snyder locations.

SEAN CRAWFORD | A clarinetist & native of Buffalo, Sean returned to the city in 2013, after receiving Bachelor degrees in both Instrumental Performance & Music Education at the Louisiana State University. An active chamber & orchestral musician, he has performed with locally noted groups such as the Buffalo Chamber Players, Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, Buffalo Opera Unlimited & the Buffalo Opera-Lytes. He has

also performed with various orchestras & ensembles in New Hampshire, Ohio & Louisiana, including the 2012 Louisiana State University Orchestra’s Dallas tour. As a soloist, Sean received First Prize in the 2011-2012 Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition (state level-Louisiana) & Second Prize/Alternate (division level-South Central). Sean teaches Music, My Grown Up & Me, Instrument Exploration-Beginner Strings & Percussion, Instrument Exploration-Winds & Strings, CMS Chamber Ensemble as well as woodwinds at the CMS Elmwood & Snyder locations.

Topsy Turvy-The World of Gilbert & Sullivan: Teens & adults with Paul WaaraStudents will explore the wonderfully funny & entertaining world of Gilbert & Sullivan. The lyricist & composers’ works extend beyond The Pirates of Penzance & HMS Pinafore. We will explore the famous duo with a focus on their lesser known operetta, Patience, & will include components of music history, opera & live theater. CMS Chamber Ensemble: Teens & adultswith Sean CrawfordPiano, wind & string players have the opportunity to rehearse & per-form in a chamber music setting.
