MEXICAN REVOLUTION• Mexicans revolted after decades of the hacienda system and

dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz

• Porfirio Diaz overthrown from power and political unrest began

• Civil war and revolts spread throughout Mexico

• The war ended once Emiliano Zapata was assassinated by Carranza

• Obregon overthrew Carranza and sought reform

MEXICAN REVOLUTION EFFECTS

• Hacienda System ended; the land was divided up and distributed to Indian communities and peasants

• Many Mexicans crossed over the border to the United States to escape the fighting in the civil war

• Civil war ended with Obregon in power

• Economy revised to support the growing middle class

• Businesses became focused on banking and manufacturing

• New constitution

• Went from dictatorship to democracy

INDEPENDENCE OF GHANA• 1902- Ghana becomes a Britain colony

• Kwame Nkrumah led boycotts and strikes

• 1954- Nkrumah becomes president and prime minister of Ghana

• March 6, 1957, Ghana became independent

• 1960- Ghana becomes a republic

• 1919- Britain claims Kenya as a colony

• Gave land to white war veterans

• 1952- Mau Mau Rebellion

• October 1952- 7-year state of emergency

• December 12, 1963- Kenya became independent

• 1964- Kenya became a republic

• Jomo Kenyatta became first prime minster and later president of Kenya
