ELLIS ISLAND

• People mainly came from Europe, others came from Asia, West Indies, or the Middle East.

• Ethnic groups: Irish, Polish, British, German, Russian, Jewish, Greek, Arab, and other ethnics.

• Left because of famine, high taxes, population, religious persecution, war , leaders, poverty, and other problems.

• In 1921, 560,971 left Ellis island and made it to America.

IMMIGRANTS

• This law passed and caused more problems to Ellis Island.

• Number of European nationality entered in a given year, could not exceed three percent of its foreign people that

lived in the U.S. in 1910.• 1924, the immigration act still restricted immigrants, and

also provided examination and qualification of immigrants at U.S. consulates overseas.

• Funds from the Public Works Administration permitted the landfill recreation on the Manhattan side of the

building.

QUOTA LAW

• Immigrants brought diseases, disabilities, and physical conditions that doctors had to look out for.

• They had to be healthy when entering America.• Some didn’t have to go through that because they didn’t

have any sickness or any other troubles.

INSPECTION

• Its now a historical site.• People from around the world come and go from

America.• Some people find their ancestors that have been through

Ellis Island.• Problem is that people that come here are terrorist and

cause trouble with our country.

ELLIS ISLAND TODAY
