About 10,000 BC Britain was connected to the continent. The last ice age was covering the land. People could walk free between Britain and the continent. People came for the first time ever. When the ice melted Britain became an independent island. People say that the king of Stonehenge was a man called the Amesbury Archer, he died because he had a really bad swollen. When Archaeologists saw him there was a man next to him and they thought that he was related to the Amesbury Archer.

The Stone Age

It was around until 10,000 B,C before Christ. At this time people moved around because if they stayed in one place and kept going hunting and gathering there would not be any food, or any nature left on the land. The only material used was stone, but soon nearly everything was made out of stone and plants. People would take a couple of days to eat a wild thing. People lived in caves. But there was an animal that was dangerous to you, it was called a short face bear, it was about 12 foot tall and you could only kill it if you shot it in the lungs or the heart to kill it.

During this age people made tools to hunt

animals down, also they went fishing . They trained wolves. When people killed an animal and took its skin

off for clothes they took the flesh off because if they didn’t then it would smell and it would be uncomfortable.

Britain became an island. As soon as it started people could get some

more food than they did.

In the Neolithic age people stayed in one place and farmed, grew crops and looked after animals, like pigs and sheep. People where not Nomadic. Skara Brae was built, and it was a Neolithic village. When people started to farm it was the biggest change in human history. People used their crops to make bread, and other kinds of food. People had bigger families and had a lot more food.

The Bronze age started about 2500 BC. The Beaker Folk brought a new style of pottery and material to Britain. The skill of working with metal emerged in West Asia and spread all over the world. The new metal was bronze. To make bronze you have to smelt the copper and tin, and mix it together, then mould it together and make your thing. As the settlements grew things were abandoned like Stonehenge. Only the metal workers could make bronze and poor people had to do other things to get what they needed. Because they had Bronze it made a lot a lot of difference to Bronze age people.
