iji HE educational institu.lions of the country are committed enthusia tically and W wholeheartedly to thc military program. General lIfarch says: "The Student

.\rmy Training 'orps has b en organized to a 's is t in training a body of men from whom the United States will draw officer material in large numbers."

Col. George L. Converse is in command of the Training Corps of the Ohio State University. He has been Commandant of the University Cadet Corps since 1898. No other Commandant has seen uch a long period of contllluous service at a single insti­tution. It is safe also to say that few cadet corp. have been .0 efficien.tly handled.

Thirty United States officers ha\c been detailed here to assi t Col. Con\'er e in training the Student Army Corp of approxilllately 1 ()() men. This number does not include the Medical or Dental. tudcnts who arc also receiving the benefit of the mili­tary training. \Ve do not beline that any men will be better trained for officers than tho e who go out from the Ohio State Univer~it\·.

11i\HIO STATE'S contribution to the fighting forces of the country has been W venerated by the memorial placque and the enormous service flag of 3000

stars. Among the gold stars which signify tha.t sons of Ohio State have made the supreme sacrifice, there are two which reverence the death of two popular athletes. These heroes, Fred Norton and Vaughn McCormick, both lost their lives in recent air battles.

No printing pace on this program could afford sufficient words to voice the deep grief felt by the student body for these men. As true sons of Ohio State they played their par.t in the struggle just as they fought to bring victory to the Scarlet and Gray on the field.
