Luxperience de nes luxuryAFTER announcing a 51%business growth, Luxperience ceoLindy Andrews said the showsnew loca on at Pier 2-3, WalshBay was more conducive to thehigh end, luxury and experien alelements of the industry.

Andrews said the show hadgone from 100 exhibitors in 2012,to 150 last year, to 240 this year.

I think it just shows thebuoyancy and growth of theindustry on a global level.

Accor Asia Paci c chiefopera ng o cer Simon McGrathprophesied that in the nextdecade many more luxurydevelopments would be seenthroughout the region.

We are deeply entrenched inthis region with the result thatwe have So tel So Singapore,So tel Nusa Dua and So tel Soin Auckland, and now we alsohave So tel Wellington underdevelopment too.

    Accor has placed much

importance on the managementof the luxury brands in Singaporeand speci cally in the Asia/Paci cregion where the in uencesof great European and Asiandesign can be seen and it is thiscoming together today that is thede ni on of luxury.

McGrath ( pictured ) said DrJerry Schwartz, the So tel Sydneyhotels owner, had passionand the luxury market wasabout anima on and con nualinvestment in the market.

The thing is, luxury really isyour calling card and I think thetrend back to luxury in Australiaand New Zealand augurs well fortourism as a whole.

Short shriftGET into a huddlewith a groupof event andconferenceplanners andthere is noshortage of topics to talk about.

Conference bags, which wewere all variously wheeling orcarrying, became the focus of arecent discussion.

The question was, why dogiveaway cases and bags have

to be spoilt by having the nameof the event or the productemblazoned on them, renderingthem useless for the most partafter the event if you dont wantto be a walking billboard?

Sure, its all about exposure, sponsorship and someonesbusiness, but what sort ofexposure does it get over thefew days of the meeting or tradeshow when it preaches to theconverted?

Most people admitted givingthem to Vinnies (okay, a worthycause) but in the long run, awaste of money and, as one ofthe group suggested, why notwrite something on the inside oron the lining?

Louis Vuitton is a good exampleof discretion - its distinctivecolour and initials may be all overthe products but it is tasteful andinstantly recognisable too.

Lanyards got the short shrifttoo, for the same reason.

Surely its more sustainableand eco friendly for sponsors tocreate their own generic lanyard, and not have Macca the Stackeror Bobs Hire publicised aroundyour neck, said one person.

When to comes to good tasteandwearability, the lanyardleadingSouthAfricanDMC

Dragon y gave me isdistinguishable for its beautifulbeading, in very recognisableSouth African colours ( pictured ).

It always gets admired and isalways reused. Jill

CONFERENCING in Japan in thenear future?

Why not - the country has giantdancing robots and butler cafsas incentive ideas ( BEN 31 Mar) -but not, apparently, toilet paperreserves, so it may pay to packsome spare rolls in your suitcase.

The Telegraph reports thatthe Japanese government has

kicked of a campaign urgingpeople to stockpile toilet paperbecause almost half the supplyof the necessity comes from oneof the more earthquake-proneareas of the nation, the Shizuokaprefecture.

That, or its a great coup bythe paper companies, who areparticipating in the campaign, which ofers a 149m single layertoilet paper roll, the publicationhas reported.

The reason is not papery thin - it

came as a lesson learned from theMarch 2011 quake, it said.

news that Accor would open anibis at Brisbane Airport, sharing anew Brisbane Airport Conferenceand Mee ng Centre with a newPullman ( BEN 01 Aug), but Accorsaid the two loca ons weredi erent accommoda on marketswith separate demand drivers.

The ibis Brisbane Airport willbe a ached to a conven on

    markets driving demand for thehotel.

We do not believe that theibis Brisbane Airport will haveany impact on the Brisbane CBDmarket.

Instead the ibis ElizabethStreet would focus on demandgenerated within the CBD andcomplement Accors exis ngpor olio in that area which
