welcome

January 2019

DEAR CHAMBER MEMBERS AND FRIENDS,

Hundreds of organizations belong to the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce, from nearly 50 cities and towns in the Monadnock Region. There are many reasons organizations choose to join, and to renew their memberships – different for some organizations than for others – and this year’s update highlights a few of them.

Our purpose is described in our by-laws as follows: “The Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce, Inc. is organized to advance the commercial, industrial, educational, cultural, recreational and general welfare of Keene and the surrounding area.” We visit, live, learn, work and play in an amazing place – no secret to those of us who are already here.

We’re always committed to providing you, our members, with the best possible marketing support and programs. We will continue to connect businesses through our Business After Hours and Before Hours programs. Additionally this year, with the help of our board, we will be reaching out to every Chamber member to see if we can do more. We want to hear from you: what we’re doing well and what we can do better.

Also in 2019, based on what we hear frequently from our members, we’ve asked a taskforce, headed by one of our board members, to pursue the idea of this Chamber developing, coordinating and leading a comprehensive, multi-year, multi-platform branding and marketing campaign – to promote the region. We’ll keep you apprised as we proceed, and as we assess whether there is sufficient support for the idea to do it (and do it well). It won’t be cheap, and it won’t be easy. We’ll need your help

This is your Chamber of Commerce. We are locally owned and operated – there is no national chamber headquarters. Our vision and mission are driven by our members, as represented by our board of directors: more than 20 people from the region, from large companies, small companies, sole proprietorships, municipalities, and nonprofits of all sizes.

Please feel free to reach out to either of us at any time with your thoughts and ideas.

All the best,

Adam Kossayda Phil Suter Board Chair President/CEO

“Though I have been a member of the Chamber for more than a year, I just got around to paying a visit to learn about the opportunities that membership offers. I was impressed by three things: 1) the pride and commitment of the Chamber team who each spent time talking with me about how the Chamber can support my business; 2) the breadth of opportunities and services extended to members as well as the community; and 3) the view of the Square from the second floor conference room. Seriously, the view of the Square from the second floor of the Chamber building. It’s beautiful, and I felt a renewed sense of pride for the lovely city we live and work in. Thank you Christine, Nancy, Phyllis, Deb and Phil.”

“I joined the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce soon after I began marketing my services in the Monadnock Region. I use many of the membership benefits, but I particularly enjoy the Business After Hours and Business Before Hours hosted by members and the Annual Gala. These events offer valuable networking opportunities. I also appreciate that when I submit member news on behalf of my clients, it is included in the next issue of Outlook News. The Keene Chamber is the gold standard so far in my experience when it comes to communicating member news.

The Chamber staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, which makes communicating with them easy and productive.”

“I highly recommend membership in the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce. I’ve been a member of many other chambers, and have found that the GKCC stands above them all with an active membership, a chamber staff that is proactive in the services to their members, and a community of businesses that look out for each other and care for their community. I changed employers recently and made a point to join the GKCC as soon as possible for the benefits, active membership and excellent staff. I recommend being an active member and volunteering on a committee; you will have no regrets.”

programs

Leadership MonadnockSince its founding in 1997, nearly 400 people – including many who are in community leadership positions today – have completed the Chamber’s very popular Leadership Monadnock program.

Leadership Monadnock is an intensive nine-month program – meeting one day a month at different locations around the region – designed to immerse participants in the critical issues that define and drive the dynamic nature of our regional economy and quality of life.

For more information about program sponsorship, or how to apply to participate, please contact the Chamber at [email protected], or call us at 603-352-1303.

“The Leadership Monadnock program helped me to understand the current issues the region faces in multiple topic areas. I was able to see how my organization and job fits into the bigger picture. The best takeaway was that it connected me with leaders and rising stars in the community. I highly recommend this program.”

Suzanne Bansley, Grants Manager Cheshire County

member feedback

“Taking part in Leadership Monadnock continues to impact my professional and personal life in positive ways. The program is rich with diverse and interesting content and people. I’m grateful to Cheshire Medical Center for investing in my development as a leader and the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce for offering this valuable program to our community.”

member feedback

“I loved my experience with Leadership Monadnock. I grew up in the area and I had NO IDEA the depth and intricacies of our community niches. I came home after each day filled with new knowledge and awe of that specific day’s theme - so much so that my husband wants to participate in LM at some point in the future. It was such a worthwhile experience.”

Regional Issues SeriesSince 2015, the Chamber has convened its members nearly 20 times – often 100 people or more – to raise awareness about the issues that both inspire and challenge our region. Issues covered to date include: the demography of the region; workforce development; broadband connectivity; transportation; the local economy; enhancing our public policy voice; the clean economy; housing; the energy challenge; living wage; economic relations with Canada; substance misuse and addiction.

This popular series is free and open to the public. If you’d like to suggest a topic, or hear what the next forum will be, be sure you are on our email list by contacting the Chamber at [email protected], or calling us at 603-352-1303.

“I had the opportunity to attend the recent Regional Issues Series Forum: Substance Misuse & the Addiction Epidemic, Some Things Monadnock Region Employers & Employees Should Know. This is a difficult subject matter, but I am so pleased to have attended. The panel gave unique insight, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and learn from each of them. Future events such as this will be great opportunities to learn more about many topics that effect businesses and the community. Thank you to Phil Suter and the Keene Chamber team for offering this type of forum!”

marketing

Much of what Chambers do falls into the broad category of marketing, and this Chamber is no exception.

For our members, we offer several tools to promote member organizations, including: sponsorship of events and programs; advertising in our newsletter, regional guide, regional map, and on our website; social media promotion of member products and services; e-blasts to our email lists; and more.

For the broader community, we promote the region. In 2019, a Chamber taskforce is assessing the feasibility of launching a comprehensive, multi-year, regional branding and marketing campaign to promote Keene and the Monadnock Region – as a terrific destination for tourists, a great place to attend school or college, a superb place to live and raise a family, a place with an impressive number of career and job opportunities, and a fun place to play.

To find out more about how we can be your marketing partner, and/or how your organization can be part of promoting the region, please contact us at [email protected], or call us at 603-352-1303.

“Galloway Real Estate is happy to be a member of the GKCC. Our Chamber membership connects us to the Greater Keene Community.
