Its intui ti ve user inter face allows exten si ve mea su rements to be taken in the shor test pos si bletime. The results can be archi ved for docu men ta ti on or later ana ly sis and fur t her pro ces sed on thePC.

    The phy si cal lay er mea su rements have been exten ded to inclu de the direct deter mi na ti on of poten ti ‐al dif fe ren ces bet ween the par ti ci pants (com mon mode / ground shift).

    With the online trig ger, you can moni tor the bus for indi vi du al phy si cal limits, deter mi ne pro blemsover time and make errors visi ble in the oscil lo gram.

    The pro to col moni tor is used for sen ding, recei ving, deco ding and record ing messa ges.

    The CAN touch sup ports four bus sys tems in phy si cal lay er mea ‐su rements : CAN, CANo pen, Device Net and SAE J1939.

    It can also be used for mea su rement in other bus sys tems basedon the CAN stan dard. The seinclu de Iso bus, NMEA 2000and Safe ty Bus P, but alsoEner gy bus, CAN a e ro spaceand ARINC825. Niche bus

  • Soft ware Licen se ModelThe big ran ge of func tions is not often nee ded in who le. To set the device to a attrac tive pri ce worthylevel, a licen se model was esta blished. The not inclu ded func tions can be tested in a 30 day tri altime. In this time the re are no func tio nal limi ta ti ons. To get a func tion unlo cked fore ver a licen se hasto be purcha sed.

    So you are deci ding on your own, which func tions are nee ded in your case and what is worthy toinvest to.

    Even the hard ware don’t has to be purcha sed com ple te ly. The basic set comes without ser vice caseand adap ter set.

    The CAN touch is a bat te ry ope ra ted hand held dia gno sis device for phy si cal and logi calCAN bus ana ly sis. With its modern touch con trol it allows an intui ti ve and effi ci ent hand ‐ling without an addi tio nal com pu ter.

    As fur t her deve lop ment of the CAN-Bus Tes ter 2 it has not only its func tio na li ty, it hasnew addi tio nal mea su rements as well. An easier valua ti on pro ce du re with amp le colorsand smi leys sup port your work with quick valua ti on of the mea su rements.

    With the pos si bi li ty for future updates you are equip ped for fur t her enhan ce ment. Newfunc tio na li ty can be unlo cked by purcha sing addi tio nal licen ses.

    The inte gra ted bat te ry sup plies power to the device without a pro blem for a who le inten ‐se mea su rement day. It is moni to red by a spe cial char ge con trol ler that cal cu la tes remai ‐ning time and resi du al char ge. If all that is not enough – the device is char ged up to 80%in only one hour regard less of whe ther you are mea su ring in that time or not.

    The rub be ri zed alu mi num con ti nuous cas ting body is not only impres sing high qua li ty, itis also extre me ly robust.

    Bus Set tingsAfter selec ting the right bus sys tem, you have more opti ‐ons at choice. The device is sear ching for the cor rect baudrate but it is also pos si ble to select one by hand. Bey ondthat you can chan ge the bit ti ming, what is important for sys ‐tems that are not run ning on CiA stan dards.

    Besi de this you should choo se the right ground refe rencepoint, whe ther the exter nal ground con nec tion or CAN_V-which is con nec ted to pin 6 of the 9-pin sup D socket.

    Auto ma tic Quick TestThis func tion pro vi des an imme dia te over view of the sta tus ofall mea su red values that the CAN touch can deter mi ne on theCAN bus. For this pur po se, the used baud rate is auto ma ti cal ly detec ted and a con ti ‐nuous mea su rement starts. The eva lua ti on of all mea su rement results of the six freeapps is done by smi ley. Even an eva lua ti on of the qua li ty levels of all bus par ti ci pants iscar ri ed out con ti nuous ly, even if no licen se for the mea su rement has been acqui red. Thesmi ley rep res ents the worst mea su rement result of the last mea su ring cycle. With oneclick you can start the cor re spon ding mea su rement to start a trou ble shoo ting.

    The smi leys allow to judge the mea su rements at a glance.

    By using pre de fi ned lists of nodes, it is easier to find out if a node is mis sing.

    The Online Trig ger is used for moni to ring the bus, loo king for logi cal errors and phy si callay er pro blems over a lon ger time peri od. Mea su rement can be star tet after choo sing thetime for one mea su rement cycle (10 ms – 1 min). If an error is detec ted wit hin a mea su ‐rement cycle, it is mar ked wit hin the cor re spon ding line. So it is later pos si ble to seewhen an error occu red (up to 1 week). The cho sen time for one cycle is accoun ta ble forthe maxi mum dis play a ble time span. 10.000 mea su rement cycles are dis play a ble inCAN touch, older data gets lost. Only the fact that one or more errors occu red over thewho le mea su rement time is visi ble.

    For phy si cal mea su rements you give thres holds, when an error is shown. Cur rent valuesas well as maxi mum and mini mum values can be shown. Moni to ring for cer tain errorscan be swit ched off. This might be use ab le in case you are loo king for a cer tain phy si calpro blem and don’t want the moni tor to beep or to be stop ped at every error frame.

    The CAN touch can beep at every reco gni zed error, this makes it easier to trou ble shootspo ra dic errors. It is also pos si ble to show the last as cor rup ted asses sed messa ge asoscil lo scope pic tu re. The func tions of the oscil lo scope view are detail ed as known fromthe Node Mea su rement app (zoom, phy si cal and logi cal view, deco ding).
