Dear Families,
What a busy, but productive Term 2 we have had. This will
be our final newsletter for this term. I would like to take
the opportunity to recognise the great effort and
dedication shown by our teaching team and SSO staff to
ensure the best learning and wellbeing outcomes are
provided for our students. Many thanks also to the
wonderful volunteers who support in the classrooms,
library and canteen. Without your support, many of the
opportunities provided to our students may not happen.
Staff Changes:
We farewell James Pritchard at the end of this term.
James has been working as a student support and release
teacher during Term 2. James is off on his overseas
experience. We wish him all the best with his travels.
Chris Couzner will be returning to Room 9 in Term 3. Chris
has been on extended leave over the past year. Chris will
be teaching from Monday to Thursday and Jackie Castro
will continue to teach the class on Friday. We would like to
thank Jackie Castro for her hard work and dedication
during the first semester. Jackie will continue to work at
Burton in a number of roles.
Student Reports:
Comprehensive student reports will be sent home with
students today. Please check school bags! Remember that
a ’C’ for achievement means that your child is working at a
satisfactory standard for their year level. If you have any
questions about the report, please speak with the teacher
involved with the class or subject.
School Hats:
In line with our SunSmart Policy (based on the
recommendations from the Cancer Council SA), students
are required to wear hats during Terms 1, 3 and 4. All
students will need to wear a sun-safe hat from the
beginning of next term.
Dogs on the School Premises:
Please ensure that dogs are not taken on to the school
site at any time. This includes the school oval. The school
has a responsibility to ensure the safety of children, staff
and visitors to the site. Thank you for your understanding
with this matter.
Overdue Items:
Over the holiday break can you please check for any overdue
library books and readers. We have a number of students
with overdue items.
Pyjama/Casual Clothes Day:
On the last day of term students are able to wear their
pyjamas or casual clothes for a gold coin donation. Students
are reminded that appropriate clothing and footwear needs
to be worn at all times.
Last Day of Term:
Tomorrow is the last day of Term 2. Please remember that
school finishes at 2.05pm and student needs to be picked
up by this time, unless attending OSHC.
I would like to wish everyone a relaxing and enjoyable
holiday break. Please stay safe and look after each other.

Rugby League 2019 - Girls State Champions!
On Wednesday the 3rd of July, 12 boys and 13 girls travelled to the Rugby League State Finals after both teams won the
Northern Districts finals a few weeks ago. The girls had been training hard for the past few weeks, spending their
lunchtimes practising and enhancing their skills.
The day started with a round robin tournament where they played 6 other schools from across the state. The girls showed
great determination, skills and progressed undefeated. This set up a state semi-final with Greenock PS. It was a close
game, but they succeeded and a grand final awaited.
The state final was against Henley PS. The girls were tired, playing their 8th game of the day, but like any great team they
rallied, worked together and ran home victorious and crowned the best girls’ team in South Australia!
Congratulations to Makayla, Sienna, Duyen, Katelyn, Sandra, Jade, Amot, Fatema, Ella S, Ella L, Teagan, Mia and Vanessa.
Your hard work paid off. Thanks to all the family members who came and supported on the day. It was greatly appreciated.
Boys Third Place An undefeated SAPSASA campaign saw our boys’ rugby team heading to the state finals for the first time in two years. We
started fast, winning our first two games against Two Wells and Greenock. The boys then came up against Nairne. With
only a ten-minute break between games, the team was feeling the pinch and Nairne took advantage. They proved a
formidable opponent, speed in attack and our inability to stick tackles led to our first loss of the day. After another short
rest we faced Largs Bay, bouncing back with a resounding win. Going into our last round robin game for the day against
rivals Salisbury North, the fatigue was starting to take its toll. They were yet again too fast, scoring quickly to give us our
second loss for the day.
Our 3-2 win-loss record for the day was enough to put us through to the championship division for finals where we would
come up against an undefeated Murray Bridge side. They were full of talent. With our backs against the wall we didn’t give
up, scoring two tries, but ultimately going down to the team that would go on to become state champions. This left us
facing Happy Valley in a playoff for third place, a game we went on to win. Huge congratulations to every player for the
team work and sportsmanship they showed while representing our school. A special mention goes to Marcus Lobo and
Caleb Barton for showing strong leadership throughout the day, including a great speech during presentations to round out
a fantastic day for Burton!
