The Scottish Rite BULLETIN September is here and the summer of 2014 is almost a memory. I hope each of you have had a wonderful and relaxing time with your family and loved ones over the past several months. However, it’s now time to get back to attending meetings after the summer hiatus. Even though our membership has not met over the summer, your officers have continued to attend to the fraternal needs of the Valley. The Trustees have been actively directing the business of the Valley by meeting monthly. Stephen Wertz, our new/old Secretary, has assisted us by supervising the daily activities. Our summer began with a successful golf tournament at Shade Mountain Golf Course in early June. Fifty-two players competed on a warm and sunny day. The golf committee has several ideas to improve the tournament, so look for some new and interesting additions next year. July brought the Council of Deliberation in Hershey where James A. Smith and Birch B. Phillips III were announced as recipients of the Meritorious Service Award. In addition, many officers and members were in attendance with our Valley being well represented. The Little League Parade was held on August, 13th. Special guests of the Scottish Rite were George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by several brothers sharing candy with those along the parade route. Our members’ picnic will be held on September 10 at the Zafar Grotto from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with food available all day. Dinner will consist of barbecued chicken, provided by Ron Aungst and Jim Shaible, with hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and all the trimmings provided by John Debo. Please plan to attend. Enjoy the day, and especially the fellowship! The Board of Trustees has recently decided to suspend the previously approved increase in dues this year in an effort to provide some relief to you, the members of the Valley. Therefore, dues will remain at last year’s level for 2015. On another note, the Valley has incurred some unplanned repair costs this past year, and so we found we needed to offer something that would provide needed funds to meet our financial obligations. Bro. Gil Boal volunteered to put our on-going raffle together, and Bro. Ron Aungst has agreed to chair the activity. Please support this endeavor, as the financial stability of the Valley will depend upon current and future fund-raising efforts. Each of you has received six tickets to either sell or buy. I’m sure you will not find them to be a burden. I encourage you to return the funds from these tickets to the office as soon as possible. If you are in need of additional tickets, they will be available at the office. I understand there may be some members who feel strongly about the disposition of guns, an emotionally charged issue with the interpretation of our second amendment rights and with the current number of incomprehensible tragedies that have befallen our society. I assure you that our purpose was not to offend anyone. Your opinion will be respected. I will entertain any alternative fund-raising ideas and support the active pursuit of that activity. I thank you for your vote of confidence. I will do my best to provide the leadership you expect from your Commander-In-Chief. My focus over the next 2 years will be on brotherhood. It is the most important and valuable asset that each member can receive from our fraternity. I encourage each of you to find that brotherhood by participating in the activities of the Valley. September is here and the summer of 2014 is almost a memory.

The Board of Trustees has recently decided to suspend the previously approved increase in dues this year in an effort to provide some relief to you,

the members of the Valley.
