Welfare and Safeguarding We are aware that some of our students will be struggling with the recent changes to their routine. ‘Learning from Home’ portal

Many thanks for continuing to support your son/daughter with their work from the

‘Learning from home’ portal on our school website. Staff continue to work hard

behind the scenes to make sure that materials are uploaded for use at home.

From week beginning 20th April, after our Easter break, individual lessons will be

uploaded for Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 students. Pupils will simply click on the

‘Learning from Home’ link on the school website and go to their relevant class

folder for each subject.

General resources will continue to be uploaded for Years 7, 8 and 9, in line with

department schemes of work.

Just a few reminders regarding home learning for after the Easter break:

It may help with routines for pupils to follow their usual school timetables.

It is important to take regular breaks. Try to monitor the amount of time your

child is spending completing their home learning. If possible, break up the

day with physical exercise and creative tasks.

Encourage your child to read for a minimum of 20 minutes every day. Your

son/daughter could read a novel, poem, short story or an online article.

Ask about his/her learning every day.

Some useful websites are included in this newsletter that can help add varie-

ty to the ‘virtual’ school day.

Books, books, books. They will increase your

lifespan, lower your stress and boost your

intelligence…so why not read?

For your whole family, David Walliams is re-leasing an audio story every day for the next

30 days for free. bit/lyAudioElevenses

Completion of Year 11 and 13 courses

Students must continue to complete work set through the Learning from Home

Portal. This is important because :

Students will need to complete courses to prepare for sixth form or university study.

Any students who are not happy with their calculated grades can elect to sit an

examination after the summer and will not be prepared if they do not complete

courses

Students applying to sixth form at CHCS will be required to show that they have

completed courses as part of their sixth form application

Examination Boards are recommending that vocational students complete units as

far as possible so that evidence is available to support the award of a grade

Y11 TELEPHONE INTERVIEWS FOR SIXTH FORM If your son/daughter expressed an interest in returning to the Sixth Form on the Application Form they completed in tutor, then one of the Sixth Form Pastoral Team indicated below will be telephoning them at home to discuss this. They will have their most recent grades to hand and their Application Form. On the school’s website will be a link to an updated copy of the Sixth form 2020 Booklet -General Entry Requirements and the specific grades required for Subjects and Pathways (previously issued at Sixth Form Infor-mation Evening). It would be useful to look at this again with your son/daughter and discuss their intentions prior to the telephone interview. As you will appreciate, this is going to be a longer process than normal so we anticipate that the phone calls will take about a month to complete so please don’t be surprised if you are not contacted straightaway
