MENTAL HEALTH MINISTRY PRESENTS "FINDING A PURPOSE IN LONELINESS"

Almost all of us have experienced the pain of loneli-ness. While we generally think of it as a nega ve and unwanted thing, loneliness can actually be a gi in dis-guise. It signals that we need to take care of ourselves; it can even be a way God gets us to look at new possibili-

es in our lives. What a perfect focus as we start a new year! Come to an interac ve presenta on on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Dining room. Everyone is welcome. For more informa on about this workshop or about any other mental health need, leave a message on the Mental Health Ministry voicemail: 760-757-3250 x203.

Save the Date! Once again we will be cele-bra ng the Feast of St Patrick with a Mass and parish potluck on his Feast Day, the 17th of March. Come join us in com-memora ng the teachings and inspira on of this beloved Pa-tron of Ireland and joining a er-wards in friendship with some good food and Irish song. Mass will begin at 4:30p.m. in the Historic Church, fol-lowed by a potluck dinner at the Mission Retreat Dining room nearby. Any contribu ons for the potluck may be brought to the front of the Historic Church prior to Mass. We will have volunteers available to bring your delec-table dishes to the dining room while you a end Mass. Please join us for this enjoyable get-together! If you have any ques ons or would like to help out, please con-tact Diane and Jim Manning at 760-724-3319. You can also RSVP to that number so we may have an idea of the number planning to a end. Hope to see you there!

Mondays through March 21, 2016 L I V I N G T H E E U C H A R I S T

2:00–4:00 pm and 6:30– 8:30pm

REFLECT: What sort of conversion do I hope for this Lent? A con-version of mind, heart, ac on? Where in my own life do I sense a need for “more light” to break forth from God’s Word?

ACT: Conversion in ac on means following through on our good inten ons and inspira ons, without hesita on or undue delay. Don’t put off doing something good that you’ve thought of doing. Act now!

PRAY: Lord Jesus, you opened the minds of your disciples to understand their experience in light of the Scriptures. Help me to read “the signs of the mes” in my own life. Holy Spirit, turn my life over to God more fully. Set my heart on fire with your holy Word!

Lent [264.1] is the season of prepara on for Christ’s Resurrec on at Easter; it is

for many Catholics a special me for prayer, fas ng and renewed spiritual focus. The Essen al Lenten Handbook: this book provides everything you need for a richer expe-rience of the 40 days before Easter. It has contemporary and tradi onal resources for your spiritual journey. Bib-lical Medita ons for Lent by Rev. Carroll Stuhlmueller CP: is a classic that offers daily prayerful reflec ons on the readings of the Lenten season. A Lenten Pilgrimage by Rev. Richard Chilson CSP: follows the journey of the can-didates in the Rite of Chris an Ini a on and encourages all to explore the meaning of the catechumenate and what it means to be fully Chris an. Lent & Easter Wis-dom from GK Chesterton provides day by day Scripture, prayer and reflec on by a great Chris an writer.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT

In today’s second reading we learn that one of Saint Paul’s principles of Chris an living is to watch and imitate other follow-ers of Christ. There is a pa ern for Chris an living that Saint Paul wants others to discover and then imitate. This pa ern includes a life of prayer, selflessness, sacrifice, and caring for others, including our family of faith. Good stewards choose their friends wise-ly. They cul vate friendships with other Chris an stew-ards, spend me with them, observe how they live, ask ques ons about their faith and learn from them. Who are your friends? Are they good stewards of their faith? Are they those who can help you on your own journey of faith?

A QUOTE FROM POPE FRANCIS

We are impa ent, anxious to see the whole picture, but God lets us see things slowly, quietly.

STEP INTO PEACE THIS LENT WITH TAIZÉ PRAYER IN THE HISTORIC CHURCH

We all long for the presence of God. Fill your heart and soul with the beauty of God's love as our parish gath-ers for songs, silence, scripture and med-

ita on in candlelight. Join us in our beau ful Historic Church on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7pm, on these Wednesdays: February 24th, March 2, 9th, 16th and 23rd. This is an ecumenical opportunity, so friends, neighbors and all Chris an brothers and sisters are wel-come.

FOOD WASTE FACTS – DID YOU KNOW

The average American worker spends almost as much on coffee as he or she does on commu ng costs each year.

The United Na ons has set the minimum require-ment for caloric intake per person per day at 2,410.

The world can produce enough food to provide every person with more than 2,700 calories per day, yet many s ll go hungry.

Picture in your mind the last full meal you consumed. Did you eat all of it? Were there le overs? Did you throw anything away? How many “extras” have you consumed in the past 24 hours—snacks, treats, cups of coffee? Our faith calls us to resist the culture of waste and excess: Pope Francis has said, “Consumerism has led us to be-come used to an excess and daily waste of food, to which, at mes, we are no longer able to give a just val-ue, which goes well beyond mere economic parameters. We should all remember, however, that throwing food away is like stealing from the tables of the poor, the hun-gry!” And, “We are in front of a global scandal of around 1 billion—1 billion people who s ll suffer from hunger today. This week, in solidarity with the poor, look for ways to reduce food waste. Oh God, where we are blind to the needs of others, teach us how to live conscious lives of care and service.

Espíritu San-to, transforma mi vida plenamente a Dios.

NEWS FROM THE PARISH ADVISORY BOARD ABOUT THE PARISH SURVEY AND

BEING A FRANCISCAN PARISH

Of great interest to the Board is how we as a parish think about and live out our Franciscan iden-

ty. Though many people experience a sense of warmth and welcome here at our parish that is greatly valued, it difficult for us to express that in words – and many people expressed a desire to know about “What is Franciscan?” That is exci ng as it provides direc on for the Advisory Board to help shape and grow our Franciscan iden ty as a Parish, perhaps through addi onal spiritually enriching ac-

vi es and programs – and in other crea ve ways. Being Franciscan is an important part of who we are. Parishioners were suppor ve of addi onal spiritu-ally enriching ac vi es at the parish, with nearly half of the survey respondents saying they’d like to see addi onal opportuni es to par cipate.
