GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH(Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod)
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSASAugust 18, 2013
THE THIRTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOSTChristian Education Sunday
PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Lord Jesus Christ, the childrens friend, to me this day Your presence send. Grant me toknow Your Word aright and by it know Your Fathers love. Lord, by Your suffering, pain and woe, Ihave redemption and adoption as a child of the heavenly Father. Bless and keep me this day, strengthened by the Word of promise and its fulfillment in You. I pray this in Your holy name. Amen
WELCOME
We welcome you this morning to Grace! It is indeed good for you to be here today. Maythe Lord bless your time as you hear His Word and respond with hymns, praise and thanksgiving asyour faiths response to the Good News of forgiveness and life. If you are not a member of Grace and
desire to learn more about our teachings as drawn from Gods Word, please speak with our Pastor. Once again we are glad you are here and we invite you to come and worship with us again.
Everyone is asked to fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and return it toan Usher as the Offering is collected. Restrooms are located on the lower level of this building oracross the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. Children are welcome in ourService and will be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany themif they wish. A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for anyone who has need. If you
have any questions please speak with an Usher or Greeter.HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion will be celebrated in the 10:45 Service today. In this sacrament we receiveChrists very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Those who are not members of Grace areasked to speak with our Pastor before partaking of this sacrament so that the unity of faith might beestablished. Thank you for honoring this request.
AS WE GATHERCall it Rally Day or Christian Education Sunday, today we celebrate our Sunday School
children and those who teach them. The responsibility for teaching children rests with their parents. The role of the congregation is to assist parents in teaching their children Gods Word. Dr. Martin
Luthers Small Catechism was written in 1529 to help do just that. There we find before each of thechief parts these words: As the head of the household should teach them in a simple way. The
prophet Jeremiah and the greater prophet Jesus remind us that Gods Word causes division, even in
our households. There are those who gladly hear and learn it and there are those who reject it.Sometimes that division even runs inside us, as we are both saints and sinners at the same time. Wecan be like the people of Jeremiahs day, listening only to the false prophets who say we have donenothing wrong. But then the Holy Spirit awakens the faith it has given us, and surrounded by thatgreat cloud of witnesses, we turn our eyes to Jesus and His cross and find forgiveness and life.
