Peru beats Uruguay for fifth place

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, May 13, 2017. Peru beatUruguay 3 0 (25 14, 25 22, 25 10) to finish in fifthplace at the U20 Women’s Pan American Cup unGimnasio Nacional of San Jose, Costa Rica.

Peru outplayed Uruguay not before overcoming adifficult second set with Uruguay’s good resistance.Peru showed experience and audacity, finishing theevent with 2 2 record and Uruguay with 1 3 record.

Peru held a 35 24 margin in spiking, 6 3 in blocking and 6 0 in aces; they limited their errors to 19points and scored on Uruguay’s 28 errors.

Top Peruvian scorers were opposite Katherine Regalado with 14 points, including nine kills, twoblocks and three aces; along Kiara Montes and Leslie Leyva with 9 points apiece. Camila Bauseroonce again topped Uruguay with 18 points.

Katherine Regalado, Peru’s captain: “This wasn’t the position we came to fight for, neverthelessfollowing our loss to Argentina, we are finishing on a high note against Uruguay. Happy with thisresult but we admit that there’s much to work on before the world championship”.

I am nothappy with our position, but this was a good test to add to our preparation before the worldchampionship, Peru has a ticket thru world ranking. Cuba wins U20 Women’s Pan Am Bronze

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, May 13, 2017.Cuba won the U20 Women’s PanAmerican Cup Bronze medal match afterdefeating Puerto Rico 3 0 (25 18, 25 21,25 20) at San Jose, Costa Rica.

Cuba and Puerto Rico contested agloomy bronze medal match, with Cubarecovering from a five point deficit in set

two. The winners weren’t as energetic as their usual performing style while winning their secondbronze medal in the tournament’s history. Cuba finishes with 3 1 record and Puerto Rico with 2 2.

Cuba outblocked Puerto Rico by a huge 10 3 margin, while sustaining advantage in kills by 39 27.Puerto Rico scored on 9 aces and Cuba three. The difference in errors was slim; Cuba committed 20and Puerto Rico 23.

Leading Cuba with double digits was top scorer Heidy Casanova with 15 points, Diaris Perezcontributed with 12, Ailama Cese and Laura Suarez tallied 11 and 10 points respectively. On PuertoRico’s side, Paulina Perez led with 11 points and Dariana Hollingsworth with 10.

Diaris De La Caridad Perez, Cuba’s captain: “We didn’t reach our goal; we wanted to play for goldand qualify to the world championship. Our matches were demanding y the team improved a lot”.

Cuba gana el Bronce de la Copa U20

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, 13 de mayo de 2017. Cuba ganó la medalla de bronce de la CopaPanamericana Sub 20 Femenina luego de derrotar a Puerto Rico 3 0 (25 18, 25 21, 25 20) en SanJosé, Costa Rica.

Cuba y Puerto Rico batallaron por el bronce en un juego lento, en donde Cuba se recuperó de undéficit de cinco puntos en el segundo set. Las ganadoras no fueron tan potentes como de costumbre,llevándose su segunda medalla de bronce en la historia de la Copa. Cuba finaliza con récord 3 1 yPuerto Rico 2 2.

Cuba superó a Puerto Rico por una amplia ventaja de 10 3 en el bloqueo, además de sostenerventaja en el ataque por 39 27. Puerto Rico anotó 9 ases y Cuba tres. La diferencia en errores noforzados fue mínima; Cuba cometió 20 faltas y Puerto Rico 23.

Con dígitos dobles, encabezaron a Cuba, Heidy Casanova con 15 puntos, Diaris Pérez contribuyó con12, Ailama Cese y Laura Suárez anotaron 11 y 10 puntos respectivamente. Por Puerto Rico, PaulinaPérez encabezó con 11 puntos y Daiana Hollingsworth con 10.

USA claims U20 Women’s Pan Am Title

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, May 13, 2017. – United Statesdefeated Argentina 3 0 (27 25, 25 22, 25 22) to claimthe U20 Women’s Pan American Title on Saturdaynight at San Jose, Costa Rica.

The championship match featured the winners of thetwo vacancies to the FIVB World Championship inMexico next June, with United States winning gold intheir first time at the U20 Pan Am Cup. United Statesclaimed the title with perfect 5 0 winning record. This

is Argentina’s second silver medal in the history of the event; they finish with 3 2 record.

United States blocking was crucial to stop Argentineans fast game, with 13 6 margin. The goldmedalists also prevailed in spikes with 41 38 margin and 3 2 in aces. Argentina scored on 23 errorsof United States while committing 20 of their own.

Khalia Lanier of United States scored 16 points for a match high, joined by middle Regan Pittmanwith 12 points and Mackenzie May added 11 points. The only Argentinean with double figures wasopposite Anahi Tosi with 11 points.

Khalia Lanier, United States’ captain: “Winning in the final match is something we haven’t done alot of, we feel great. This win was a good team effort, it wasn’t our best performance but we werementally tough and we stayed in the game, that’s what made the difference”.

EEUU se corona Campeón de la Copa U20 Femenina

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, 13 de mayo de 2017. – Estados Unidos derrotó a Argentina 3 0 (27 25, 25 22,25 22) para coronarse campeón de la Copa Panamericana Sub 20 Femenina el sábado en San José,Costa Rica.

El juego por el título presentó a los equipos ganadores de las dos vacantes al Campeonato Mundialde la FIVB en México en el mes de junio, con Estados Unidos ganando capturando la medalla de oroen su primera participación en una Copa Panamericana Sub 20. Estados Unidos gano el título conrécord perfecto de 5 0 en juegos ganados. Esta es la segunda medalla de plata para Argentina en lahistoria del evento; finalizan con record 3 2.

El bloqueo de Estados Unidos fue crucial para detener el juego rápido de Argentina, con un margende 13 6. Las campeonas también encabezaron en ataques 41 38 y en ases 3 2. Argentina anotó 23puntos de errores rivales, cometiendo 20 faltas propias.

Elizabeth Hall MVP at U20 Pan American Cup

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, May 13, 2017. Elizabeth Hall ofUnited States named the Most Valuable Player at thefourth U20 Women’s Pan American Cup at GimnasioNacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Elizabeth Hall, the top scorer of the United States,received the recognition during the awardingceremony followed the United States championshiptitle win over Argentina.

The Best Scorer and Best Opposite was Cuban Heidy Casanova. Ailama Cese and Diaris Perez of Cubawere granted the awards for First and Second Best Spiker respectively. Also from Cuba, Laura Suarezreceived the award for Second Best Blocker and Gretell Moreno was the Best Setter.

Argentinean Valentina Gonzalez was honored as Best Libero, Best Digger and Best Receiver.

The First Best Blocker was Geraldine Gonzalez of Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico’s KrisJustiniano was the Best Server.
