Giving Update
THE MINISTRY OF SALEM HEIGHTS CHURCH The ministry of Salem Heights Church is funded entirely by the generous giving of God’s people. You will notice that we do not pass the offering plate; however, there are offering boxes in the back of the auditorium. We have done this so no one gives out of compulsion. We believe from the Word of God that the Spirit of God will lead people towards giving back to God of their first fruits. “...God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7) and we know He blesses those who take His Word seriously in every regard. Thank you for prayerfully supporting Salem Heights financially as we desire to reach the lost and disciple the Saints.
(Prayerfully consider what the Lord would have you do.)

LUKE Part 27
Luke 6:17-26
“Welcome to Ministry”
Presented by
Pastor Justin Greene
May 17, 2015
WHEN MOSES RECEIVED THE LAW, and Israel’s
constitution, on Mount Sinai, it was amid scenes
of terror and fear. There was a great sound of a
trumpet. The whole mountain seemed to be on
fire. The ground shook and quaked. The
people cowered afar off in terror. Moses
himself was terrified.
But that was a long, long time ago. Some
fifteen hundred years had passed and a new
age had dawned. The King had come, the
King promised for so long. Not that He really
looked like a king. There was none of the usual
insignia of royalty. True, He could trace His
lineage to David both through His mother,
Mary, and His foster father, Joseph. But there
was no throne, no crown, no golden orb, no
jeweled scepter, no imperial guard in burnished
brass. There was just Jesus. Many of the people
had known Him for years. He had grown up
among them. They had known Him as the
carpenter’s son.
But He was the King, the last and only rightful
heir to David’s throne. Moreover, He had come
to establish a kingdom that would last for all the
ages of eternity. But not in the way the people
expected. They sought and desired a king who
would sally forth and smash the power of Rome,
make Jerusalem the capital of a new world
empire, and establish the Jews as head of all
the nations of the earth. If there were to be
new laws, then they should be given with all the
proper pomp and ceremony. The place to
issue such laws was Jerusalem. Mount Zion
should be retaken. A palace should be built to
outrival that of Solomon. The edicts should be
accompanied by fanfare and cheering. But it
was not like that at all. There He sat, in a
homespun robe, surrounded by a handful of
fishermen, a tax collector, and a few
nondescript nobodies. He sat in the sunshine,
overlooking a placid lake. Little children played
around His feet. And He called for a standard
of behavior that took one’s breath away.1
He would start with the Beatitudes.
HAVE YOU HEARD?
• This message contains some of the most well known themes
of Jesus’ teachings.
• This message was directed at His followers.
• This message is the beginning of the disciples’ formal training.
EXPLANATION OF BENEFITS
• In His “Welcome to Ministry” Sermon, Jesus explains four
realities:
Your relationship with Jesus (or lack of it) will impact your
identity.
(Do you feel like family?)
Your relationship with Jesus (or lack of it) will impact your
internal experience.
(Do you have peace?)
Your relationship with Jesus (or lack of it) will impact your
external experience.
(Do you have joy?)
Your relationship with Jesus (or lack of it) will be the
cause of your experience.
(Do others know you are a believer...
Or do you have to convince them?)
