To be able to broadcast with 3ZZZ you must be a financial member
with an existing broadcasting group at 3ZZZ and have had
permission from the group convenor to partake in the course.

GERMAN GROUP 25th ANN. DINNER DANCE RMAN GROUP 25th ANN. DINNER DANCE DUTCH VARIETY AFTERNOON On Sunday the 28th of June the Dutch group of 3ZZZ held a variety afternoon to mark the 25th Anniversary of
3ZZZ Community Radio. We were a bit late, as the anniversary was in 2014 but, as the saying goes, better late
than never.
The afternoon was held in the Dutch Club Abel Tasman in Carnegie. The date we set could have been better; at
that time of the year a number of people are escaping Melbourne winter and move further north to the warmth
and sunshine of Queensland or, indeed of Europe. But the turnout wasn‟t too bad, around 80 people decided to
join us in the celebrations.
We had a minor setback. The council Carnegie falls under decided to do a lot of work in Rosstown Road and all
electricity was turned off in the area for the day. What to do? We needed power for the music and also for the
kitchen. Tineke, the very well-known chef of the Dutch Club can perform miracles with food, but not without
power. Luckily we had had advance warning so a generator was hired and set up. Power at last!!!!! We decided not
to use the lights inside the building but made use of candles on every table. The hall looked magical and festive at
the same time.
We had asked several of our members of whom we knew they were musically talented to perform for us and
perform they did. We had one of our own broadcasters, Ron Nolte, perform with his band, I C Rock, the lovely
Titiana de Vries sang some beautiful songs for us en another of our members, Corry Pijnaker also sang like a bird.
We were also lucky enough to get duo Me & the Elephant to come and perform for us.
We also took the opportunity that afternoon to thank our Convenor, Ena Lewis, for
26 years of volunteering with 3ZZZ Radio. Ena will retire from 3ZZZ at the end of
December.
Dutch people love to dance and dancing we did. The
band played on and on, while people danced to the
tunes of the 50s and 60s.
We danced and ate the lovely Dutch food available,
some of us drank a few glasses of wine and we all had
a great time. The afternoon finished around 4 o‟clock.
As they were going home, many people told us they
had had a lovely time and would like to do this again
sometime. And who knows……. Perhaps we will.

POLYFONIX AFL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Ivan Puggioni and Salam Hasanein present Bachar Houli with the inaugural Multicultural Player of the Year Award.
The Polyfonix program broadcasters Ivan Puggioni and Salam Hasanein have been heavily
involved with all things AFL during the 2015 season. They have conducted some excellent
interviews with players like Lin Jong from the Western Bulldogs and Patrick Karnezis
from the Collingwood Football Club, highlighting their rise to the senior teams of their
respective clubs and how hard it was to make the transition from rookie to professional
in a sport considered predominantly white and anglo saxon. Adding to this they have
arranged and organised the inaugural “Polyfonix Multicultural Player of the Year” award,
with the blessing of the AFL‟s Multicultural Program.
During the season players with Multicultural backgrounds who accumulated AFL Fantasy
Points during the week‟s matches were given “votes” corresponding to the amount of
points they received in the fantasy tally that week. The Multicultural player with the
highest vote tally was deemed the Polyfonix Multicultural Player of the Year.
The inaugural winner was Bachar Houli of the Richmond Football Club who had a terrific
season. Ivan and Salam were given permission to present the trophy in person to Bachar
during one of his training academy sessions.
A big congratulations to Ivan and Salam for all their very hard and excellent work in
promoting the AFL‟s Multicultural Program and with their sensational initiative of the
player of the year award. And a big thank you to the AFL‟s Multicultural program and to
the AFL clubs who assisted in the Polyfonix coverage of the AFL with access to their staff
and players. We look forward to see who wins the award next year!

AUSTRALIAN CORPORATE GAMES
3ZZZ Football Team: Meir Krispin (Jewish), Borja Flors (Spanish), Bernd Merkel (German) Gabriel
D‟Angelo (Staff), Burim Brao (Albanian), Mathew Giacomantonio (Italian), Bernhard Vorreiter (Austrian)
Each November thousands of eager competitors gather in waves to compete in the annual Australian
Corporate Games held in Melbourne.
The Corporate Games is now in its 3rd decade and encourages companies to support their employees'
pursuit of a healthier and more active lifestyle. The Games provides the opportunity for anyone,
regardless of their sporting ability, to play in a multi-sport championship and remain active in sport.
The games are open to all businesses and organisations – large and small from Multinationals, Government Departments, Institutions, Partnerships, Agencies and Clubs. Teams from 1 to 1000 can
participate. Open to all ages and ability levels. Teams may include employees, colleagues, clients, family
and friends, and just like the Olympic Games there are gold, silver and bronze medals up for grabs.
This year 3ZZZ fielded a team at the games for the very first time with competitors partaking in Table
Tennis and Men‟s 6-a-side soccer.
Our solitary representative in Table Tennis was Ivan Puggioni from Polyfonix who went up against
representatives from Exxon Mobil, Origin Energy and the NAB.
Ivan did a great job winning his first match and getting 3ZZZ off to a great start at the games. However
he went on to lose the next two matches but the fact that Ivan did well to win the first game is a great
achievement.
The mighty reds of the 3ZZZ football team were grouped with the Australian Council for Educational
Research, Protiviti and once again the NAB.
3ZZZ started well with a 0-0 draw with the NAB, then went on to beat Protiviti 7-0 then defeated the
Australian Council for Educational Research 5-0 taking them to the top of their group and into the
knockout stages.
However the fairy tale start did not have a happy ending as the knockout stages were to be played the
following Sunday when most of the players had to work, so unfortunately 3ZZZ had to end their
Corporate Games adventure.
The fact that Ivan had won a game and that the football team won their group so convincingly meant
that there is hidden talent lurking in the studios of 3ZZZ ready to burst out and shine brightly for
everyone to see.
A great day for all involved and a big congratulations to everyone who participated and hopefully 3ZZZ
can expand in both participation and success next year!

FILIPINO X FACTOR
HOY PINOY ceebrates back-to-back win of two
Pinoy Pride on X Factor Australia
With the entire Filipino Community in Australia, HOY PINOY celebrated the back-to-back win of two Filipino-descent X
Factor Australia Grand Winners, pop princess Marlisa Punzalan and the heartthrob from the Gong (Wollongong) Cyrus
Villanueva with a fun catch up and interviews aired on its Wednesday program.
Pinoy Pride Marlisa and Cyrus, two young people with amazing courage and talents, have captured the hearts of the
Australian X Factor audience from the time they walked into to stage for their audition. They faced challenges, nurtured
their talent with their celebrity mentors, survived being away from family and friends and in the end, all their hard work paid
off. Marlisa, 16 and Cyrus,19 have taken out the title of Grand Winners of Season 6 and Season 7 X Factor Australia,
respectively.
During their HOY PINOY radio interviews, Marlisa and Cyrus talked about their life and experiences as they pursue their
common passion and greatest dream – MUSIC. They also talked about their albums and new singles and shared their
memorable journey. And on a more interesting and personal note, Marlisa and Cyrus revealed the Filipinos in them with
their family stories, fond memories and favourite food.
2014 X Factor Winner MARLISA PUNZALAN Marlisa, the youngest X Factor winner at 15, visited HOY PINOY for the
second time to promote her second single “Forever Young” under Sony
Records. After a year of preparation, Marlisa‟s second original was finally
released in November. Still consistent with her pop-inspirational themed
music, Marlisa recalled having fun memories in making “Forever Young.”
She talked about being excited and happy with the summery, Caribbean
rhythm and shared that the song is about “... staying positive, being
strong, striving to achieve your best, just enjoying life and living life to the
fullest.” It is fun, adventurous, fresh and young, which still captures
Marlisa, the young charmer who captivated the nation with her powerful
voice during her X Factor audition.
During her interview, Marlisa also thanked all her fans, specially her
Filipino supporters who continue to show their support and love since
the beginning of her X Factor journey. She said, “I am amazed by the
overwhelming support I have been receiving and this keeps me motivated
to boost myself and my music.” Marlisa has been busy with shows,
corporate gigs, recording, co-writing and getting more experience in song
writing. In December, she would also be in the Philippines again to
promote her second single. Marlisa has also released a Filipino song
called “Unstoppable” during her first promo tour in the Philippines in
2014.
Marlisa‟s first HOY PINOY radio interview was in November 2014 right
after winning X Factor and when she promoted her self-titled album
Marlisa and Winner‟s single “Stand By You,” which hit platinum and debuted number two at the ARIA
Singles Chart. “Stand By You” was also nominated this year‟s Song of the Year at the ARIA Awards.
Born in Sydney to Filipino parents Lito and Andrea, Marlisa grew up enjoying the fun-loving, close family ties and
fiesta-like gatherings of a typical Filipino family with lots of music and food. With Mom Andrea being a good
cook. (chicken/pork on vinegar-soy marinade) and dinuguan (pork blood stew).
Having Filipino parents who greatly value education, Marlisa balances her music career and her studies through
home school/distance education and just recently successfully completed her Year 10.
Marlisa‟s Christmas has always been spending time with family, going to Church, staying up till midnight, opening
presents and enjoying lots of food. Marlisa also said, “When I was young, I used to believe in Santa Claus.” But
then, she added, “I still do.” This December, Marlisa will be spending her very first Christmas in the Philippines
and looking forward to it.

GERMAN ART EVENT
2015 X Factor Winner CYRUS VILLANUEVA Cyrus Villanueva, famously known as “Cyrus virus”, released both his self-titled album “CYRUS” featuring a selection of his
stand out songs from X Factor Australia and also the Grand Winner song and his first single “Stone,” which debuted
number one at the Australian iTunes Chart, on 9 December under Sony Records.
During the Hoy Pinoy interview, Cyrus expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all those who supported and believed in
him, with special mention to all Filipinos in Australia. He admitted he was overwhelmed by the love and support Filipinos
have shown him through his X Factor journey.
Born in Wollongong to an Australian mother and a Filipino father from Cotabato, Cyrus inherited his passion for music and
his incredible talent from his father, a musician known as Jo Vill. Cyrus recalled listening to his father‟s records and playing
with the ukulele when he was young. He grew up on old classics from great singers like Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson,
Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole and Ray Charles, which had great influences on him, and some Filipino songs. When asked
if there is a chance for a Filipino song from Cyrus, he said, “Yes, I would love to. I grew up listening to Filipino songs.”
One song stuck in his mind was Freddie Aguilar‟s greatest classic “Anak” (Child).
Revisiting his X Factor journey, Cyrus shared significant highlights of his experience. The most challenging, he reckoned,
was being away from home and his friends. His most incredible moment was when he performed Chris Isaak‟s “Wicked
Game.” “It‟s quite a bit of pressure when I was told I am singing his own song,” said Cyrus. “But it was worth it.. and I am
really glad it went as well as it did and it was the first time a song of mine had reached number one (at Australian iTunes
Chart). It will be a moment I would never forget.”
For Cyrus, “Dancing on my Own” was his favourite performance in the series during the five seat challenge and the one
that stood out where he cried a lot and still, he felt emotional when he was recording the track in the studio.
Cyrus experienced the longest 30 minutes of his life when he was standing on the stage awaiting the announcement of the
winner. “It was pretty daunting being there. And I think...you could see my heart pounding through the layers of my
clothes... but in the end, it was all worth it,” shared Cyrus.
Cyrus has visited the Philippines and remembered having lots of fun memories during his stay. His father, who loves
cooking, introduced Cyrus to Filipino dishes. His favourite Pinoy dish is the all-time favourite breakfast combination of
TOSILOG – tocino (bacon in Spanish), sinangag (fried rice) and itlog (fried egg).
Being this year‟s crowned X Factor winner, Cyrus is touring around Australia promoting his album and single and also
performing in various events. He is looking forward to also visiting the Philippines, both for holiday and prom tour. He
looks forward to visiting Cebu again and Boracay.
Marlisa and Cyrus are two young people who bring pride and are such inspiration to the Filipinos in Australia and overseas.
Support and grab their music on iTunes or their albums and singles which are available in stores nationwide.

GERMAN CHRISTMAS MARKET
Ute Haberberger, German Group Broadcaster
It‟s this time of the year again – Christmas cheer all around!
Everybody knows, that the Germans are famous for their Christmas Markets. From the big cities to the
tiny villages – during the Advent Season one can stroll through a world of its own. Stalls with Christmas
ornaments, Christmas treats, candles, Bratwürstchen and Glühwein (sausages and mulled wine) and
Christmas music all around, make it possible that even the grumpiest person senses the Christmas spirit.
Can you believe it – Melbourne has 4! German Christmas Markets! The German Group of Radio 3ZZZ
managed to be present at three of them – even though 2 were held at the same day.
The Christmas Market at the TTHA (Tabulam and Templer Home for the Aged) is growing every year
and it seems whole Bayswater is looking forward to coming together at this special event. We had our
stall next to the stage and we took it in turns with the choir of Bayswater Primary School to see to the
musical entertainment.
The Christmas Market at the German Lutheran Church in Springvale has a long tradition, always being
held on the Saturday before the 1. Advent and is welcomed by lots of Germans and locals alike. We did
not have to cater for the music there, as they had live music playing. Nevertheless we were present with
a stall and managed to tempt a few visitors into signing up as new members.
The AGWS (Australian German Welfare Society) is lucky enough to have their annual Christmas Market
in Melbourne‟s Lower Town hall in the CBD. This year it was the first time in 60 years, that the
Christmas Market wasn‟t held on the last Thursday in November, but on the Saturday before the 1.
Advent. We shared a table with SBS and together provided festive background music, while enjoying the
relaxed and Christmassy atmosphere.
