In his book Dangerous Wonder , the late youth-ministry pioneer Mike Yaconelli debunks theidea that Christianity is all about coloringwithin the lines and coloring well. He writes:Gods grace is so outside the lines of ourunderstanding that we can only stand in awe andwonder. Christianity is not about learning how

to live within the lines; Christianity is about the joy of coloring. The grace of God is preposterous enough to accept as beautiful a coloring that anyone else would reject as ugly.

The grace of God sees beyond the scribbling to the heart of the scribbler a scribbler who issimilar to two thieves who hung on crosses on either side of Jesus. One of the two asked Jesus toplease accept his scribbled and sloppy life into the kingdom of God and he did. Preposterous. And very good news for the rest of us scribblers.

Dr. Putt and precious West Lynchburg Baptist Church members,

I wanted to take a moment to write and let you know how very much Kevin and I appreciate all the cards and continued thoughts and prayers in our behalf as wewalk through this difficult yet God-ordained journey through breast cancer.Though words cannot adequately express the difference your prayers make in our

lives, please know that on our end, God is providing the strength and sustaining us physically, emotionallyand spiritually to keep on keeping on during those times that I know in and of ourselves we have no strength

left. He leads us when we lack direction; He carries us through our weakest moments; He sendsencouragement when we are down; and He fills us with a sense of His very real presence during those timeswe feel it is too difficult to carry on all because He is a faithful God who hears and answers your prayers.

I am currently halfway through the chemotherapy treatments. I wish I could say they have been a breeze, but nevertheless, the Lord has been faithful and the end is in sight. Following chemo I will go through six and ahalf weeks of daily radiation treatments. By the time Thanksgiving comes we will truly be thankful for thecompletion of the intense treatments. Between now and then, however, we will be most grateful for your continued and faithful prayer support.

From the moment the doctor looked at me and said the word cancer I knew that this was a challengeallowed by the gracious hand of God. Though the enemy is hoping for defeat, I know that my Father has

hedged me behind and before, and laid [His] hand upon me (Ps. 139:5) for purposes too wonderful for meto comprehend. He will use for good what Satan intends for evil. My prayer from the beginning is to do thisthing right to bring great glory to God through this journey. I ask that you pray toward that end that I will be a submissive, willing participant in Gods perfect plan and that He alone will receive all glory, honor and praise for He alone is worthy!!

I am humbled and blessed that you would choose to be participants with me through this journey through your faithful prayers. With deep appreciation, Christy Garber

The Knight Family (Japan) website www.theknights.multiply.com News from the Knights via Tommy Woodford:

To keep from repeating myself, I sent the following note to my very close friends to whom I haverun (continue to) with for the majority of my life. We are as close as brothers. One of my brothers,Kevin is hurting now and he's a half a world away from us. He has adopted a little baby boy to givehim the love that his parents refused to give, due to his physical defects. Kevin told me that everychild needs someone to love him, and he and Jessica plan to do that for Kenji. Kevin told me thestory of how they got Kenji and the love they have for him. I haven't called Kev yet, though I planto call to check on him. From all appearances, their son is fighting for his life. He is being flown toa city in Japan 2 1/2 hours from their home, in hopes of getting better. I admire Kevin for how he'schanged and for what he's doing with his life. I couldn't do it. Each of my friends have theirstrengths and we support one another with them. Kevin has the compassion and can always sensewhen I'm having a bad day or when I'm starting to slip back into my old habits. I'll get a call fromhim, were he picks me up and gets me going back in the right direction.

He needs us to pick him up. Some of you know Kevin better than others, but I'd like to ask each of you to pray for him. My buddies and I all have strong personalities, but we've always fallen in lineto support one another when we're down. I'm asking for others to pray for him too, for I know at aworld away, he's hurting and needs our prayers. Thanks Tommy

Guys, I really haven't said much, if anything about this but I think you should know. Kevin and Jessicaadopted a baby Japanese Orphan about a month or so ago. I believe he's around 18 months old.The little boy is a dwarf and they knew he had problems going into the adoption. In Japaneseculture, if there's something wrong with the child, he's placed by the family in the Orphanage.Kevin and Jessica believed this baby needed someone to love and care for him. His name is Kenji.I'm not sure of the American name they gave him.

Within the past couple of days, their son began having breathing difficulties. His oxygen levels whichshould be in the upper 90's, fell into the mid 30's. He was taken to the hospital where was placed inthe ICU in an oxygen tent. They found that in addition to a sinus infection, he has a very thin and

    13/14

narrow larynx. The swelling from the infection and the defect is making his breathing and eatingextremely difficult. I just learned that the doctors have decided to airlift the baby and Jessica to achildren's hospital 2 1/2 hours away from home, in hopes of getting him well. His conditionappears very critical. Kevin is doing some very good things with his life and with that of this littlebaby. I know I couldn't give my life and the interests I have to do the things Kevin is doing.

I know he has great faith, as evidenced by him moving to Japan and continuing to live there. However,he's going through a very difficult time right now. We all do our thing and are busy in our ownlives, however we've all been close friends for many years. I wanted you all to know what he'sexperiencing so we can take a moment to say a little prayer for him. Though none of us talk toKevin as much anymore, I know he continues to support us and he's always one of the first, if notthe first to call us when we have difficulties with our family. Tommy

Latest Email: He has been moved out of the ICU into a room where Jessica will remain with him the majority of the time. Kenji will be in this room for the next two weeks. The hospital has provided Jessica a room tosleep during Kenji's stay. He is now only on CPAP nasal O2 at night to help him sleep. He was on 40% O2nasal cannula during the day, but I believe he will be coming off that one.Kevin said Kenji is laughing and eating well. He attributes his positive prognosis and continued recovery toall the prayers and God's direction of the doctors. Tommy
