Authority is a kind of power. It is the right to determine what others do.



But it is more than that. It also includes the ability to do so.


In order for you to establish authority in your niche, you need to expand your knowledge of the industry.


There are three steps to gain authority…


Two come naturally… if you do the first one right

That first step is research. And this is where so many Internet marketers fall down.


Research feels too much like school, and most entrepreneurs couldn’t wait to leave. They wanted to do, rather than to learn.



But the problem is that without the research, all you ever see is your niche.

Simply being knowledgeable about your niche does not make you an authority.

If you do enough research, then you begin to move ahead. You learn about context. Context is the environment in which your niche lives.

Within that environment there are other niches; some that complement yours, and others that are just on the fringes.


But power comes from understanding how they all work together.

And when you know that, then you can lead the thoughts of others.

That is the third step: Leadership


True leaders have willing followers. If no one is following you, then you are not leading them.



But, when people start to listen to you, to consult your opinion before taking action, then you can say that you have authority in your niche
