Gather to Pray

“In whom we have boldness and access with confidenc e through our faith in Him.” (Ephesians 3:12)

In Ephesians 3:12, the Apostle Paul said that it is in Christ that “we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in Him.” This is part of what motivated Paul to make such a radical, Christ-centered request of God for the Ephesian Christians in what follows in Ephesians 3:14-21. This holds many implications for us; one is that it should move us to gather to pray. C.H. Spurgeon said it this way: “If a church is to be what it ought to be for the purposes of God, we must train it in the holy art of prayer. Churches without prayer-meetings are grievously common. Even if there were only one such, it would be one to weep over. In many churches the prayer-meeting is only the skeleton of a gathering: the form is kept up, but the people do not come. There is no interest, no power, in connection with the meeting. Oh, my brothers, let it not be so with you! … Believe me, if a church does not pray, it is dead. Instead of putting united prayer last, put it first. Everything will hinge upon the power of prayer in the church.” What would happen as more and more of God’s people gather to pray? We would probably experience more of God doing “far more abundantly that all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). Please gather with us to pray: Wednesday nights at 6:15pm in the West Campus Fellowship Hall.

Images

Many of you, like me, are visual learners. You need charts, graphs, or pictures to focus. Much of the church experience is contained in images. In fact, there seems to be a resurgence of the arts in religion nowadays. Whether it’s creativity in worship, architecture of buildings, or media publications, images speak strongly of the gospel of Christ. By the way, if you inspect the stair railing leading up to the Worship Center mezzanine, you can spot images of our core values. Few images speak to us as believers more strongly than communion. When Jesus reframed the Passover meal two thousand years ago, He graphically portrayed His atoning sacrifice using common dinner menu items. Bread and wine took on new imagery that night, and it stands prominently to this day. This Sunday, we will observe communion at our three worship venues. I suggest you explain the meaning to the young people in your home. I also ask that you come prepared to offer yourselves to the Lord through confession, submission, and gratitude. It will be intense because it was meant by Jesus to be intense. Invite some exploring friends, and I’ll see you Sunday. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19

Evening Worship Service

Join us on Sunday, July 8, at 6:30pm in the Worship Center for our next Sunday Evening Worship Service. We will be continuing with Part 2 of our Joel Series. Be sure to mark your calendars and join us as we study God’s Word and worship together.

Worship Choir members are encouraged to come just a few minutes earlier than normal on Sunday mornings and spend some time praying quietly in the Choir Room. Come as early as you want, get your music together, and spend some time in prayer. We will begin our warm-up time around 8:30am for the 8:45am service; and at 9:50am for the 10:00am service.

Our Worship Choir invites YOU to visit with us! With kids out of school and able to stay up just a little later, the Summer is a great time to try out that Wednesday evening rehearsal time! Previous singing experience is great, but not necessary, and there is no audition – just drop in and visit! Whether you are new to the church family, or a “returning” choir member, we would love to have you. Rehearsals are Wednesday nights at 7:30pm in the Choir Room, which is located down the west hallway of the Worship Center. Childcare is provided. Hope to see you there!
