Fayette Lake Monster Bass

Deborah Johnson and her husband Elliot live in Houston but re-cently they made a trip to Fayette Lake for a weekend at Oak Thicket Park.

And what a weekend they had, catching a largemouth bass that weighed 11.44 pounds and was 26.25 inches, another that was 10.74 pounds and 25.75 inches and another that was 7.95 pounds and 23.5 inches.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife the record weight for a largemouth bass caught at Fayette Lake was 12.25 pounds caught March 13, 1982 by James Scogin. That record fish was 25 inches long, so Deborah’s bass was actually longer than that record bass, just not as heavy.

She said the larger bass were caught fishing the bottom of the lake using brown rubber lizards and the smaller bass were caught fishing top water using Rattle Traps.

“The experience was awesome and we had a marvelous, marve-lous time on the water. My husband began fishing as a toddler with his Dad but, fishing for me is a totally new experience. The beautiful large mouth bass that we had the opportunity to catch was an experi-ence we will never forget,” Deborah said.

Going Fishing This Summer? Email us pictures of your big catches to [email protected] and we may print it in an upcoming paper.

Deborah Johnson holds up the bass she caught recently at Fayette Lake that was 26 1/4 inches long and weighed in at 11.44 pounds.

Elliot Johnson holds up a bass he caught that was 23 1/2 inch-es long and weighed in at 7.95 pounds.
