The October meeting was held at Lyon Video, 2091 Arlingate Lane, Columbus, Ohio. The day con-sisted of two independent events, an all day workshop and a two hour evening meeting. The all day work-shop is described in detail in the October newsletter. The evening presentation was an in depth ex-pansion of the afternoon segment

on 4K and 8K video. Tektronix presented the workshop content. Tektronix and AVI Systems provided a delicious catered luncheon by Panera and Lyon Video provided an equally enjoyable dinner . The Chapter thanks Tektronix, AVI Systems, and Lyon Video for their generosity. Ed Shrider of Lyon Video coordinated the use of the Lyon facilities for which we are most appreciative. Tony Copley of Tektronix introduced Karl Kuhn the speaker . Tony encouraged those with equipment interest or ques-tions to contact him at Tony Copley, Phone: 630-512-1786, and by E-mail: [email protected] Karl Kuhn shown at right was the Tektronix technical pre-

senter. Karl is a Senior Video Systems Appli-cation Engineer. Karl supports Digital Audio and Video, Compression, IP, and RF. He has been at Tektronix for 13 years. Prior to Tek-tronix he was the lead Video Test Engineer for IBM in their Digital Video Development Laboratory in Bethesda, MD. Karl holds 3 U.S. patents and 1 Japanese patent that cover In-service Testing of Digital Broadcast Video. He is the current Section Chair for the Washington DC Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) as well as the SMPTE North American Sections Director. He is also a Certified Project Management Professional thru PMI and the George Washington University. At a later date, the various modules used by Karl in his presentation will be posted on the SBE52.Org web site. Tom Navaro shown on left is with AVI Systems. AVI Systems’ supports continu-

ing technical training and is offering the additional seminar on video communications to be held on Novem-ber 14, 2013. The seminar is described on page 7. Contact Tom if you would like to attend at 513-578-6560 or Mobile 513-617-3426 to register or for further information.

This month’s puzzler. What is this? Looks like it could be a Giga Hertz oscillator and mechanically modulated horn antenna. Maybe a sausage grinder or meat slicer. Where is it located? Submit your answer (guesses) to [email protected]. Winners, or humorous guesses, will be announced in the next issue.
