Rationale: For compliance and accreditation, clinical hours must be converted consistently to credits for all NUR courses in the Nursing program. The credit/hour changes to NUR 101, 201, and 301 (as reflected in detail on individual course CURs) will allow for standardization of credit to clinical hours to credits at a 3:1 ratio. The course will be seen through the prism of a market-based economy where the role of government is explored in detail. Such details include fiscal policy and monetary policy; government spending, taxation, borrowing and subsidies; determination of interest rates and the necessity of government bonds; government regulation of financial markets and the promotion of economic stability and growth. Topics to be covered include: economic/financial planning; tax policies/strategies; consumer credit; identity theft; financial instruments including savings, insurance, home purchasing, stocks, bonds, mutual funds; retirement planning and estate planning

Effective Term Fall 2020 Rationale:

1. The course will provide vital life skills for students to become more economically and financially literate. 2. In Economics, we primarily teach ECO 11 (Microeconomics) and ECO 12 (Macroeconomics). Over the last 10 years (2008-09

through 2018-19), offerings in ECO 11 have increased 93% and ECO 12 offerings have increased 300%. Offering an additional course in Consumer Economics (ECO 20) is warranted based on student enrollment and interest.

3. Consumer Economics is a course taught at other CUNY colleges (LaGuardia CC, Hunter, Lehman, NYC Tech, College of Staten Island), as well as Nassau CC, Westchester CC, and multiple Community Colleges in New Jersey and Connecticut. It is time for Bronx Community College to be participating as well.

This course has been approved by CUNY Office of Academic Affairs with a Pathways designation of “Individual and Society” while running as an experimental course.

Effective : Fall 2020

Rationale: As hospital technology systems have become an integral part of the Nuclear Medicine Technology field, our program’s accreditor, the Joint Requirements Commission on Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT), is now requiring it be formally incorporated into our course content. Therefore, in addition to the original content of this course, we would now like to introduce basic content on medical informatics as well as healthcare information systems utilized within the field. Description This course will focus on foundational concepts and the use of patient-care technologies necessary for safe, patient-centered nursing care across the life span while integrating legal/ethical responsibilities of the nurse. The course introduces the importance of evidence-based nursing practice that is developmentally and culturally appropriate in the care of adult, older adults and pediatric patients/clients with well-defined conditions. Critical thinking in nursing, the nursing process, acquisition of beginning nursing skills, and therapeutic communication techniques used when interacting with patients/clients, families, significant others, and members of the interprofessional team are covered. The concepts of health promotion/illness, prevention and teaching/learning are integrated as major responsibilities of the professional nurse. Student learning experiences are provided in on-campus laboratories, in-patient clinical, and out-patient community settings.

Rationale: For compliance and accreditation, clinical hours must be converted consistently to credits for all NUR courses in the Nursing program. The changes to NUR 101 lab hours will allow for standardization of credit to clinical hours to credits at a 3:1 ratio. Additionally, increasing lab hours for NUR 101 will address the following issue with the current structure of 2 lab hours: depending on the skill being taught, all students may not have an opportunity to do a return demonstration. Increasing the lab to 4 hours would allow critical thinking activities to be incorporated into the lab and all students would have an opportunity to participate in the return demonstration or scenario.
