LIFESTYLE CHOICES AND YOUR JOB
Making sure you have the right job that fits your lifestyle is essential. From our examples you can see that your dream job can also be a nightmare at times too.
BUT why do you still choose to do a job you don’t like sometimes!
WHY? The answer is because all jobs have some aspects that you don’t like, but the majority of the job you enjoy
OR You are prepared to put in the hard work and effort now for a
bigger reward in your retirement!
TASK 6: ESSENTIAL, DESIREABLE, LIKES OR DISLIKES, SKILLS & QUALITIES So what is essential to you in any job you choose? What MUST happen because otherwise you would be unable
to work? What is desirable in a job something that you would love to be
able to do but it is not essential? Likes and Dislikes What do you like or dislike about a job? Knowing this helps you determine whether or not a job is for
you? What skills or qualities do you have that you can offer to a job?
TASK 7: ACHIEVING GOALS – THE LADDEROnce you have worked out your Dream or your BIG goal, it is easier to think about how you will get there by breaking it down into steps
Think about a ladderEach step is a small goalWrite each small goal on each stepThis is an easy way to see what you have achieved
TASK 7: THE LADDER
TASK 8:PRIORATIZING GOALSYou might have a list of things you want to
achieve. For example:-Get a jobGo on holidayDo the shopping (for the week)Empty the binsVisit family or friendsMake a telephone call If you wanted to do all of the things on this list,
what order would you do them in and why?
REMOVING BARRIERS WHEREVER POSSIBLEBelieve in yourself and your own abilities – Think
positiveTry new thingsAsk for support and encouragement to achieve your
goals Think of the things that you have already achieved
in life – this will give you more confidence to go on and succeed with your BIG GOAL
Take things one step at a timeMake time – if the goal is important enough to youEarn the money or save up for a treat when you can
afford it
TASK 9: SKILLS GAPS
In order to achieve you goal you might have to learn new things:-
Get advise from other peopleDo some research (find out some information)
Learn new skills
EDUCATION
You are never too old to learnYou can go to college, university or evening classes
Learn from homeWith a tutor from WEALearn things just by talking to other peopleLearn for funOr take examsLearn at work
WORK, LIFE, BALANCE?
TIME AND MONEYOften in life, if you have the time you don’t have
enough moneyOr if you have the money you don’t have the time If something is important enough to you, you will make
time to do it!Save up or work to get the money to achieve your goal In the last slide we spoke about removing barriers,
sometimes if you don’t believe in yourself achieving your goal will be even harder!
YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH AND YOU WILL SUCCEED!
TEAMWORK & DEADLINES Team work is often important in work and life. Working
together means you can often get more done in a shorter space of time.
This is because you are not working alone as other people are helping you.
For example, if you need to organise a meeting or a party on 9th of August 2013 for 50 people to and you need to organise the venue as well.
However, if someone else is arranging the venue then this task becomes much easier because you can share what needs to be done
WORKING BY YOURSELF OR MAKING DECISIONS
As well as working as a team, working by yourself is important too.
Depending on the type of work you do, it may not always be possible to ask someone what to do next, so you may need to make some decisions for yourself
USING THE INTERNETUsing the internet is a useful and effective way to communicate with people for both social and business reasons.
People you don’t even know can help or buy from you over the internet
You can speak to people both at home and abroad using the internet – this means that you can communicate with friends you haven’t seen for years
ENJOY LIFE!
