Broadcrown is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of generating sets, o�ering a wide range of standard and bespoke power solutions to the worldwide market, from 6·2kVA to 4MVA.

With its corporate headquarters and two state-of-the-art factories located in the UK, Broadcrown undertakes all aspects of set design, project management, manufacture, installation, commissioning and maintenance of generating sets and control systems.

Broadcrown was established in 1976 as an independent manufacturer of generating sets.

From its inception Broadcrown has recognised the special and constantly changing needs of the international power generation market and has grown its skill, technology and manufacturing base to become a market leader both in capability and products.

All manufacturing is undertaken in the UK. Generating sets below 550kVA are manufactured in a dedicated 20,000 sq ft plant in Newtown, Wales.

Larger generating sets (and custom built units up to 4MVA) are designed and manufactured in a purpose built 28,000 sq ft factory at the corporate headquarters in Hixon, Sta�ordshire.

Both factories have been specially designed and equipped for generating set manufacture utilising the latest manufacturing techniques.

Quality has been a fundamental requirement of both factory and product design, the objective being to ensure that the highest quality standards are maintained and that all systems and production methods assist in meeting this objective. Broadcrown’s compliance with this commitment has resulted in ISO 9001 certi�cation.

To ensure clear focus on the speci�c needs of customers, such as service support or the specialised needs of large projects, Broadcrown is structured into several operating divisions each with its own dedicated sta� and resources, available to provide the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

These high standards are re�ected through a growing international network of distributors providing local sales and support for Broadcrown products in all continents.

In addition, Broadcrown has established its own regional support centres in Miami, Singapore, Nigeria, South Africa and India to provide sales and technical support to assist the distributor network.

To develop the current product range Broadcrown has combined experience and technology in addition to seeking the active involvement of the major component manufacturers (such as engine and alternator producers) to ensure the best matching of components and suitability for purpose.

This approach has enabled Broadcrown to produce an exceptional range of ‘standard’ products and recognising that, as power applications become larger and requirements become more specialised, Broadcrown o�ers a further range of bespoke products in powers up to 4MVA.

The full product range includes generating sets for standby, prime and baseload power applications together with an extensive range of control systems to cater for basic key start operation, automatic mains fail operation, generator and mains synchronising applications as well as sophisticated load management control systems incorporating dual redundant PLCs.

The product range is available in di�erent formats either as an ‘open set’ for installation within a dedicated plantroom or suitable for external use within a sound attenuated canopy, weatherproof acoustic enclosure or ISO style container.

While standard products may meet the needs of most consultants and end users, Broadcrown recognises that some applications require special attention, consideration and custom design, which may involve stringent noise control, restricted space, remote cooling arrangements or special voltages.

In these situations Broadcrown design the product to meet the application’s exact requirements. Broadcrown will supply total turnkey power solutions, covering all aspects from initial site survey to commissioning including project and site management.

This document details the main speci�cation and options available for a standard generator.

A range of automatic Load Transfer Panels is also available containing either 3 pole or 4 pole

electrically and mechanically interlocked contactors or circuit breakers (from 45 amps to 3200 amps)

and which are CE Compliant.

For specialised requirements such as generating sets in excess of 3300kVA Standby Power, multi-set

installations, HV generation, stringent noise levels, remote cooling, bespoke control panels using

alternative Generator Controllers or with PLC control (including dual redundant systems), special

acoustic enclosure design, or the provision of alternative* engine and alternator combinations then

For the range of standard generating sets for the export market and small UK projects up to 250kVA, Broadcrown have developed a standard range of acoustic canopies — designed to operate in harsh outdoor environmments whilst providing excellent security and acoustic performance.

All steel canopy components are pre-treated and polyester powder coated (to a typical thickness of 70-80μm) in RAL9001 white and all baseframes are �nished in RAL9005 black. This, along with the use of zinc plated fasteners and neoprene seals, provides for a very durable yet attractive �nish.

Acoustically, the canopies are designed to meet the requirements of EU Legislation 2000/14/EC. This level of performance is met by the extensive use of �re-retardant polyurethane foam together with e�cient management of cooling air. Exhaust noise is minimised by internally mounted high performance exhaust silencers.

A steel fuel tank, complete with �ller, gauge and accessory points, is integrated within the baseframe on all canopies except Midi. Alternatively, these can be provided with a bund and separate tank where required.

The Midi canopies makes use of a compact tank moulded in tough polypropylene, with visual level indication, mounted within the baseframe.

Other key features include:- Gull-wing or side opening doors for good service access- Panel/breaker access door with viewing window- Heavy duty locks on all doors for total security- Weather cap on exhaust discharge- Emergency Stop button relocated to canopy exterior- Lifting and holding down points- Fork Lift pockets (up to Canopy 4A)- Single roof lifting point (available on certain models only)

The canopy range has been extended to include the next size range of standard generating sets (up to 700kVA) — known as C5, C6 and C7. Here the design principles are similar, but the canopy is of fully welded construction and relies on rock wool and a perforated zintec steel lining to achieve acoustic performance. The packages are based on standard ISO 20 ft and 40 ft 'high cube' shipping containers and are thus ideal for transport by sea or land.

The container is of fully welded construction and relies on rock wool and a perforated zintec steel lining to achieve acoustic performance with specially designed internally mounted silencers to control exhaust noise. A two-pack polyurethane paint system provides a durable �nish and all doors are �tted with high security locks.

Some models (dependent on engine type) can be supplied with integral fuel tank.

All generating sets are equipped with a baseframe mounted control panel with integral stand and breaker box, providing a high degree of reliability and a user-friendly operating system.

The entry level control system is BC 701E-M Key Start, which provides for the manual control of the generator, essential machine protection features and analogue displays of volts and amps. The BC 701-M adds analogue engine instruments and a frequency meter.

The BC 704E-M Auto Start control system is available as an option providing for automatic remote start and a number of other bene�ts. Likewise, the BC 704-M adds analogue engine instruments and a frequency meter.

As a cost e�ective and yet highly �exible alternative, the BC 5110-M Digital Auto Start system provides further bene�ts, with operating parameters presented on a LCD digital display.

BC 5310-M additionally provides power monitoring and protection facilities with the displayed extended to include kW, kVA and Power Factor. This system also makes full telemetry available via the RS485 interface.

For the range of standard generating sets for the export market and small UK projects (<500kVA), Broadcrown has developed a standard range of control panels detailed below. For UK standard generating sets and UK major projects (>500kVA), please refer to the X Range control panels.

All generating sets are equipped with a baseframe mounted control panel, providing a high degree of reliability and a user-friendly operating system.

The entry level control system is BC 701 Key Start, which provides for the manual control of the generator, essential machine protection features and analogue display of basic parameters.

The BC 704 Auto Start control system is available as an option providing for automatic remote start, also with analogue instrumentation.

As a cost effective and yet highly flexible alternative, the BC 5110 Digital Auto Start system provides further benefits, with operating parameters presented on a LCD digital display.

BC 5310 and BC 5320 additionally provide power monitoring and protection facilities and, in the case of the latter, full AMF functionality with integrated mains monitoring.

Moreover, the BC 53XX brings full CANBus implementation. In fact, all generating sets driven by engines with onboard ECU/CANBus come with this system as standard.

To enable Broadcrown to meet the ever more challenging requirements of our customer base, the range is further enhanced by BC 5510 which permits synchronisation and load-sharing between two or more generators. BC 5520 enables a single set to be synchronised to the mains supply for no-break return or soft load transfer. BC 5560 is a separate control unit which enables multiple BC 5110 equipped sets to be synchronised together and also with the mains supply.

Remote Start AMFRANGE

For large generating sets for the UK market (>500kVA), Broadcrown has developed a standard range of generating sets and control panels — the X Range.

The X Range provides for a series of control panels, using modular and standardised equipment, providing all of the functionality required to satisfy the majority of our customers requirements for standard generating sets and UK major projects.

All X Range generating sets are provided with a set mounted control panel providing a high degree of reliability and a user-friendly operating system.The control panel contains an integrated generator controller that combines all the necessary control, protection and instrumentation for a generating set in one compact unit. The comprehensive display of instrumentation, alarms, parameters, etc. are via a graphical LCD screen, with the various alarm and control settings easily adjustable from the LCD screen.

The entry level for the UK market is a remote start system, however recognising the needs of the UK market for a high level of �exibility, the generating sets can be provided with alternative control panels o�ering automatic mains failure (AMF) capability and synchronising facilities.

Generating set application for the UK standards and projects markets o�ers a very challenging environment and Broadcrown are able to meet these requirements by the introduction of additional models in the X Range to allow multi-set synchronisation and load sharing together with single set to mains supply synchronisation, and mulit-set to mains supply synchronisation. Network (G59) protection is also available by the addition of an integrated protection relay for generating sets operating in parallel with the mains supply.

The generator controllers o�ered within the X Range have additional facilities (model dependant) such as MODBUS protocol for remote interrogation by BMS/SCADA systems, a 100+ record data log/history �le for recording of alarms/control events and an engine service interval timer to indicate engine service due date.
