WHAT IS BROADBAND? Broadband is the term used for the use

of telecommunication in which a wide band of frequencies are available to transmit information over the internet.

It is used consistently with different types of internet connections.

LOCAL PROVIDERS These are all the broadband providers in

the area of Killiney where I live. I will list the companies, give a brief

introduction about them and then pick a package that would suit a small business from home.

company called UPC. They offer free customer service. 90% of Sales and Customer Service calls

years in a row at the Digital Media Awards 2008 and 2009.

They offer digital TV, Fibre Power Broadband and Home phone packages.

ABOUT EIRCOM Eircom was formed in 1984 as Bord

Telecom Eireann. Eircom group PLC is an Irish

Telecommunications company. It is currently the largest

telecommunications company in the republic of Ireland.

UPC and Irish Broadband are their main competitors.

ABOUT IRISH BROADBAND In July 2002, Irish Broadband, a

subsidiary of NTR, obtained a telecommunications licence from ComReg.

ComReg is the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the electronic sector.

Irish Broadband is the 2nd largest provider in the Republic of Ireland, after Eircom.

They provide a wide range of broadband services for residential and business customers including 4MB symmetrical links.

COMPTON MODEL AGENCY I spoke to John Compton, owner of

Compton model agency about his use of broadband.

He uses Eircom’s Business Lite Plus. There are only 3 people working in the

agency and he works a lot from home. He thinks the price of 24.75 is the best

he could find. And finds the high upload speed is

beneficial for his business.

THE PACKAGE THAT I WOULD USE I think I would use the Perlico ‘Freedom’

package. I think it is the best package for value

and there is no hidden charges. The 36GB allowance is more than

enough for a small business. There is free connection and Wi-Fi. And also the free F-Secure PC Protection

for 3 months.
