the neighborhood around the termination of bayou st. john has a long history. dur-ing the golden age of the french quarter, the bayou played a key role as a strategic location, and it was one of the earliest areas developed before the expansion of greater new orleans. today, the termination of bayou st. john, where the site is placed, is a key central location between various large corridors, including canal, esplanade, and the mid-city corridors. because of its centrality, it is a perfect location for a commercial hub, one which caters to every need, from fresh produce, boutiques and art galleries, to restaurants and bars. So come down to the market on bayou st. john- walk around, shop, and eat with the views of the bayou in front of you.

facade morphologyoriginal plan is deconstructed as to derive its base lines.

shapes arederived form the various lines.

each shape has its own mode of transparency, and a materials with related to it. it may or may not extrude out. from all facades on site, a catalogue of parts is formed.

in designing each facade of every building, the catalogue is referenced to create various, and unique iterations.

the final design incorporates green space and pathways in between buildings to create the feeling of a busy bazaar a la chandni chawk in new delhi, or the isfahan market.

within the temporary, walkable fabric, small stalls are placed for independent artists and stages are strategically located for day and evening concerts.

focused towards the exhibition and the harnessing of the mardi gras indian culture. the four floors are programmatically divided into the factions of the year in the mardi gras indian tribe. in this museum, there is a library and manuscript space initiating the user towards the history of the culture, an audio visual museum space intermingled with “pow-wow” rehearsal areas to display the musical facet of the culture, and then a parade and performance space which connects the costume, music, and culture of the mardi gras indians to the roads in which they perform.

this group charette project was published through the Tulane School of Architecture as well as in “L’Architetto Italiano.” it was also part of the FAR Exhibit in Rome [summer 2010.] the charrette design speaks about a crisis in the lack of connection between the mountains of the town in the north to the meditteranean sea to the south. this connection is synapsed through information technology design.

information is gathered from the mountains through various sensors within the town of gioiosa marea and begins to “deposit” itself through the various sectors. when the information reaches the sea, it takes a more physical and organic form and is able to support program for the people and visitors of the town.

ULI hines urban design competition: the seed

spring 2012

when designing the Sustainable Environment Educational District [the SEED,] located in Downtown Houston, our group envisioned a space for cultivating innovation in sustainable community living, which can evolve over time to incrementally improve its own standard of living. by recognizing the street grid found west of the I-45 corridor, we reconnected the site into the existing infra-structure of the area. we also realigned Franklin Av. slightly to the north to allow for greatly improved public space along Buffalo Bayou. we also introduced a strong pedestrian corridor to connect the major components of our mixed use program, including a major transit hub, a retail center, a research and education node, and the Bayou, and create a highly dynamic urban space, embroidered with innovative sustainable components.

spring 2010drafting

this is a Historic American Buildings Survey of the gates in st. roch cemetary. the accuracy of measurements and details, including the angle of lean, in this case was of the utmost importance. the project was nominated for the Peterson Prize 2010, published in the Tulane School of Architecture Summer 2010 Newsletter, and was also put on display in the TSA website gallery for the masters of preservation stud-ies program.

traditon meets technology

summer 2010- spring 2011thesis

just as the jet engine intensifies existing air current to propel a plane through space, tradition meets technology seeks to intensify an already effective passive building system, based on the ancient indian theory of architecture, vastu vidya, with active sustainable technologies. the design is proposed in various scales, from the urban condition to a single building. as the design zooms in, the manifestations of the modern vastu system increase to create and organized, efficient, and sustainable use of various programs. at each scale, there is a constant reference to every other scale, such that the single building design is the seed which contains, and can clearly explain, the universe around it. the modern vastu vidya seeks to create an intensified dialogue between the past, through traditional passive systems, and the future, through technology, to exhibit for its users a new way of thinking about one’s interaction with energy and healthy living.
