HUMANITIES AMBASSADORS Our Humanities Ambassadors have carried out an eco review of the school to find out where they think we can be a little more eco-friendly. This meant that they review the school in ten different areas provided in the frame work from the Eco-Schools project. As a group, they have decided to focus on the amount of waste we produce and how we dispose of it; the water systems In school and improving access to drinking water and attempting to reduce the amount of people who drive to school to decrease the number of cars on the road. These three areas have become the focus of the action plan the group are currently producing that can be found on the Eco-board in school. The next stage is putting into place the plans that they have made but, as it stands, they are close to making the school Bronze awarded Eco-School.

GOVERNORS’ NEWS This term the Governors have been meeting with students to get their feedback on various areas within the school. It is really valuable to us, as Governors, to hear directly from the students about their experiences and thoughts on their lessons and daily life at Brighton Hill Community School. We have had several meetings with small groups of students with representatives from Year Groups 7—10. We have discussed their tutor programme and their lessons, specifically areas they enjoy and things that help them learn. The students really enjoy the tutor sports element of their tutor time and find the discussions about current affairs and the book they are reading as a group particularly interesting. It was a pleasure to talk to such polite and articulate students. On behalf of the Governing Body, I would like to wish all or our students, staff, parents and carers a ‘Merry Christmas and a restful holiday’.

GIRLS’ FOOTBALL Girls’ football is heading into a new era at Brighton Hill Community School with excellent attendance at training. The girls have competed in the 7-a-side district tournaments at QMC, the indoor district tournament, 11-a-side friendly fixtures and, most recently, the Year 7’s played in their first ever National Cup entry. They put in an excellent performance—leading 5-1 at half time, however, despite their efforts, they ended up with a 7-5 deficit at the final whis-tle. We cannot wait to see how far this new cohort of footballers can go! Finally, watch out on our website—and e-mail—for the new extra-curricular PE timetable that begins in January 2020!
