The annual Brighton Field Day Festival and Rodeo is one of the most entertaining and authentic events in Flor-ida. From the spectacular Native American dancing to the alligator and snake han-dling show, plus PRCA rodeo action, there is something for the whole family. And it’s a slice of original Florida cul-ture and heritage you’ll fi nd nowhere else. The procession of tribal royalty and offi cials is im-pressive, especially consid-ering the Seminoles are the only tribe who never signed a peace treaty. Their centu-ries-long heritage shows in the colorful, skillfully crafted costumes, intricate bead-work, woodcarving and other unique arts. One of the highlights is

the PowWow Dance exhibi-tion and the Hoop Dance. The intricate steps and fast past make these displays mesmer-izing.There’s plenty of opportunity to learn more about the origi-nal Floridians, from Seminole storyteller Ollie Wareham. And for some light entertainment, take in Mike Bone, comedian Tatanka Means and George Molton & the 90 Proof Band. Snake handling and alliga-tor wrestling ate always crowd favorites – don’t miss Jimmy Riffl e of the hit Animal Planet TV show, “Gator Boys.” For more native authenticity, catch the Horse Race and Indian Relay Race. One of the main features, of course, is Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association Rodeo, and on Sunday night, Sem-inole Classic Xtreme Bulls. You’ll love the electronic board in the rodeo arena, and the wild action of bullriders and bronc busters will have you at the edge of your seat. Food is a favorite part of

any festival, and the Brighton Field Day will not disappoint. In addition to your favor-ite fair treats, you can enjoy au-thentic native foods such as Indian Fry Bread. And there is a huge variety of vendors, selling handmade arts and crafts, t-shirts and jewelry, Indian crafts and much more. You’ll also fi nd some of the fi ne Seminole handmade clothing, and be sure to take a look at the pre-cision piecing and sewing that goes into the colorful gar-ments. The 77th Annual Brighton Field Day is part rodeo, part PowWow, part arts show and 100 percent entertainment. It’s a part of the real Flori-da you won’t want to miss.
