Folks, once again we have exceeded our own expectations. Last year Tyler Pipe was
able to donate a total of 2,563 pounds of food which I thought would be difficult to
surpass, but behold, we have exceeded our expectations! This year Tyler Pipe as well as
WADE was able to collect a total of 4,101 pounds of food that was donated to the
Salvation Army. I had the opportunity to meet Bridgette Moya, Head Warehouseman as
she introduced herself or (Warehousewomen) for the Salvation Army. Bridgette is a jack of all trades as she picks up
donations, stores them in the warehouse until they are ready for distribution. Bridgette was elated when the pallets of food
began to emerge from the warehouse. She literally looked like a kid in a candy shop. Her facial expression was priceless.
Bridgett responded, “There is so much of it and let me tell you, you guys know how to do it right.” Bridgette continued by
saying, “most of the time I have loose cans or bags of food to load on the truck but I come out to Tyler Pipe and you have
four pallets of food that has been stacked, weighed and wrapped and even load it in my truck.” Bridgette said that at this time
of the year that people need more than most other times and it did her heart good to see food being donated. It was a heart-
warming experience. I wanted to send out a personal Thank You to all of the Team Members whom participated. I can tell
you that your kindness and generosity will come back to you 10 fold. A special shout out to Harold Black, Primetime and
Jerry Freeman for assisting with the loading and unloading of the food.
As you may or may not have heard, Tyler Pipe had a wonderful 2016 financially. This was
due in part to the efficiency of our hourly and salaried staff as well as the good fortune of
a low scrap rate. This year for the umpteenth time Tyler Pipe was able to reward our
hourly Team Members with a Christmas Gift. Not unlike most gifts, it is not an
expectation to receive anything but it sure is a blessing when it is received. All seniority Team
Members were called to the North Plant breakroom where Greg Simmons gave us his 2016 high-
lights. Greg explained that due to the hard work and dedication of everyone in the room we had
exceeded our projections then he discussed our Safety Philosophy. Afterwards Greg said, “Your
Supervisors wanted to give you a little something special this year because of your hard work and
dedication.” With that, the Supervisors began
to sift through the crowd of thankful recipients
providing them with a gift card. Money does
not buy happiness but I can tell you that it
makes Christmas just a little more joyful. May
you and yours have a very Merry Christmas!

An Evening of Elegance!
The New Jersey Team

Distribution Manager, Adriana Bayone, Harold Rollins,

The Thursday following the 5th annual Christmas Party here in Tyler, Faye was on a plane to New Jersey to provide a
little training to our Team Members up north, and to take them out for a Christmas Dinner to celebrate the season
and show our appreciation for establishing a home front for Tyler Pipe in New York’s neighbor, New Jersey. Jerry
Kosloski is an unsung hero when it came to locating the facility and moving the project ahead. His Team has worked
hard to receive, record, store and ship the inventory that has been shipped to them for distribution from multiple
McWane facilities throughout the United States. We have a great group there in Jersey, taking care of business.
I have been to four of the five Annual Christmas Parties and I can tell you that by far I enjoyed this event the most. There were
challenges that hit the Event Planning Committee that we had not dealt with in the past but we did manage to overcome the
obstacles and provide an elegant party. The food was probably the best Christmas Dinner that I have ever eaten. This year the
event was catered by Eddie Dean’s out of Mesquite. The food was wonderful and we were allowed to serve ourselves this year.
For bigger fellows like myself, that is a big deal. That was a real benefit. One question that I have to answer because I have had
multiple people inquire. Where was the Christmas Tree? The Villa does hundreds of weddings a year. Not all brides or grooms
want to look back at their wedding pictures and want to see a Christmas Tree, therefore the Villa did not put one up. I guess
because of the time of years I am especially thankful for my job and the people that I work with and I have to say that I am thank-
ful for an employer that goes to the effort of providing an event like the annual Christmas Party. So if you didn’t get a chance to
attend this year I want to encourage you to make plans for next year.

New research provides the first hard evidence that the characteristic snorting and gasping of sleep apnea can spur potentially fatal heartbeat abnormalities. Previous studies have suggested an association between sleep apnea and cardiac arrhythmias but they had not established a cause-and-effect relationship, said study senior author Dr. Susan Redline, a professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. In this research, "we studied the specific risk of cardiac arrhythmias and sleep apnea and we established that there is a close temporal relationship." Redline and colleagues at sleep research centers across the country studied nearly 2,900 polysomnograms -- Specifically, the researchers compared heartbeat patterns seen during normal breathing against those occurring within 90 seconds of a sleep apnea episode. They detected 62 arrhythmias occurring in 57 people with a wide range of sleep apnea disorders. Overall, the study found that the odds of experiencing a heartbeat abnormality were 18 times higher immediately after an episode of sleep apnea than during periods of normal breathing of sleep. The researchers focused on two dangerous heartbeat abnormalities: atrial fibrillation, a disordered fluttering of the two upper chambers of the heart (a major risk factor for stroke); and ventricular tachycardia, a too-fast beating of the lower blood-pumping chambers that can cause sudden death.
The study suggests that doctors should be alert for the possibility of sleep apnea in people who have heart rhythm abnormalities, Redline said. "Those who present with arrhythmias should be screened for apnea," she advised. For now, the study is more of scientific interest than immediate medical application, added study author Dr. Ken Monahan, an assistant professor of medicine. "It adds additional evidence to what was already suggested in the literature," he said.

Tyler Pipe recently made a
$10,000 donation to the East Tex-
as Food Bank to support the
"More Space. More Meals" capital
campaign. The campaign is a multi-
faceted expansion project that will
increase the food bank's distribu-
tion capacity, improve workplace
and food safety, increase commu-
nity engagement, and promote
client empowerment. At this time
of peace and good will towards all
men, Tyler Pipe wanted to give
back to their community.
