MEMBERSHIP HIGHLIGHTS

20/30 Club Kick-OffSave the Date: Thursday, May 14th from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.

The aim of the newly formed social group within Brickyard, the “20/30 Club” is to offer those in their twenties and thirties the opportunity to participate in fun and casual activities designed just for them. The first planned event is very unique and sure to please. We’ve taken the challenge of getting acquainted and placed it into a “mixer” environment, thrown in a great meal and plenty of fun, a la….SPEED DINING! 20/30 Clubbers- This is one social you do not want to miss!

Last month’s pop quiz question asked, “May competitors in stroke play hit out of turn to

speed up play?” Yes, the player may hit out of turn to speed up play. However, if the committee determines that competitors agreed to play out of turn to give one of them an advantage, they are disqualified.

In this month’s article, rule 7 Practice. In stroke play or play off on any day of a stroke-play competition, a competitor must not practice on the competition course or test the surface of any putting green on the course by any means. If any tournament is more than one day, a competitor may not play or practice between rounds on any competition course to be played the remainder of the tournament. Exception: Practice putting or chipping on or near the first teeing ground before starting a round or playoff is permitted.

his month’s pop quiz question: May a player add clubs to his bag during a stipulated round?

Sincerely,

Michael Kitchens Assistant Golf Professional

I would like to let everyone at The Brickyard know how excited I am to be here. This is

an outstanding golf club and I look forward to the challenge of maintaining the Brickyard as one of the best golf courses in the south.

I am coming to the Brickyard from The Landings Golf Club in Warner Robins. I started my career in the golf course business working summers at the local golf course in Illinois where I grew up. I went to Auburn University and received my degree in Ornamental Horticulture in 1997. I worked in the Landscape business for three years in Columbus, GA until I was hired as an assistant superintendent at Green Island Country Club. I was the assistant at Green Island for seven years until I was hired at The Landings in Sep. of 2006.

My wife Kathy and I are blessed with three children. Joseph age 13 is in the 8th grade and loves to play soccer. Zachary age 6 is in the 1st grade and keeps us busy. Chloe is our niece and turns 1 this month. She came to us in September and we are in the process of adopting her. If our two boys didn’t keep us busy enough, she picked up the slack. Kathy is a first grade teacher at Matt Arthur elementary school in Houston County. We have been married for 14 years.

I hope I can meet you all soon and we will see you on the course. Please feel free to stop me any time with questions or concerns. Communication with the membership is vital to having a course everyone can enjoy.
