Oil and Gas Aren’t Your Car’s Only Important Fluids Transmission fluid in a transmission is designed to do three things:
1. It creates hydraulic pressure so the transmission can do what it is
supposed to do - allow the car to go forward in a number of different gear
ratios, as well as reverse.
2. It absorbs and dissipates heat that develops under routine driving
conditions. Heat causes friction and wear-and-tear on many mechanical and
electronic parts. The fluid carries the heat to the transmission cooler so that
fluid can be cooled.
3. It lubricates the mechanical parts to ensure proper performance and
increase the life of the transmission.
When transmission fluid becomes dark or discolored, it usually indicates
that the fluid is burned, and can no longer dissipate the heat the way the
manufacturer intended. Tired transmission fluid can hinder performance.
Unless you get your transmission fluid checked, the slow damage typically
is not felt day to day, so you only find out about it when you have a real
drive-ability complaint or a breakdown.
Thirteen Million transmissions fail every year due to worn out
transmission fluid!

Easy Ways to Save on Groceries
1. Cereal - This often goes on sale. Be on the lookout for deals published in your
supermarket's weekly circular, which is often where the best deals are (like two
name-brand boxes for $6 instead of $5.60 each).
2. Bread and Baked Goods - If you're in the store near closing time, you could find
the prices of rolls & other bakery items discounted by up to 50%.
3. Yogurt - Steer clear of individual containers (say, five six-ounce cartons).
Instead, pick up large ones that contain at least 32 ounces.
4. Bottled Water - Pick up a case at a chain like Target instead of buying single
bottles at gas stations and convenience stores, where they can be nearly four times
as expensive.
5. Cheese - Nothing beats the convenience of pre-shredded, but opting for a brick
of Cheddar or a ball of mozzarella will save you $2 to $3 a pound.
2 large garlic cloves, minced
2 Tbsp finely chopped fresh sage
1/2 tsp ground black pepper

Ninja Tricks to a Successful Garage/Estate/Moving Sale Plan ahead. Mark your items as you go through them and package
them to keep them clean until your sale. Price fairly and expect to deal
with bargainers.
Never sell dirty or non-working items. Display the items for sale
logically; put all the dishes in one area, the tools in another, etc.
ALWAYS be sure everything is clearly marked with your price.
NEVER throw items on the ground for customers to dig through.
Start your sale early in the morning. The earlier you begin the more
money your customers will have left to pay you. Be sure to have
plenty of change and sacks.
Place signs in different areas with clear instructions to get to your
location. These customers are reading the signs from their cars: Make
the print large enough to read from that distance. Don’t do it in ball
point or pencil. If it’s a computer sign, use the largest font available.
For a hand printed sign, use a bold black sharpie or other marker. It’s a
good idea to use durable, colored poster board.
If a customer comes up to you with an item in his/her hand requesting a
lower price, chances are they will buy it regardless so you might want
to be firm on your price. Generally prices don’t come down til the
second day.
Don’t misrepresent your sale. Don’t call it an estate or moving sale if
it isn’t. Customers expect to go through the entire house for those
types of sales.
Finally, relax and enjoy. You will meet a lot of your neighbors and
have a good time and hopefully, make lots of money!!
“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”
~ Milton Berle

America Recycles Day is November 15th
– Help the Earth! Recycling is the easiest thing we all can do 365 days a year to save
energy, conserve natural resources and create green jobs.
• Recycling is a multibillion dollar industry that employs millions of Americans and helps advance our clean energy economy.
• Our national recycling rate of 34 percent annually:
— Saves the energy equivalent of nearly 229 million
barrels of crude oil or nearly 20 days of all U.S. oil
imports.
— Avoids greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to
removing more than 36 million cars from the road each
year.

November Client of the Month: Annette Gustin
Annette Gustin is a woman of many talents. She started working at her father’s concrete pipe and manhole business when she was 12 years old and ending up running the family business in the last three years before it was sold. She’s obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in mechanical and chemical engineering, as well as a Masters in Engineering Management. She’s even recently learned how to do mig welding used for building tug boats at her father’s metal fabrication business.
Originally from New Jersey and the New York City area, Annette has been in this region of Florida for 22 years. She’s lived in Sarasota, Englewood, Nokomis and now lives in Venice, where she’s been for the past 14 years.
“I like the quiet, personal and small town feel of Venice,” Annette said. “I’m glad to be away from the bigger city. Venice is a good place to raise a family.”
After doing a lot of traveling for a concrete products business out of Sarasota, Annette
decided that she’d had enough of the extensive travel.
“My husband suggested staying home to raise the kids or help him with his business,” Annette said. “I decided to buy a business of my own instead.”
Annette has owned AquaTech Pools GC, Inc., located at 144 Triple Diamond Boulevard, North Venice, for the past seven years. She and her employees work in close conjunction with her husband, Greg Gustin’s, business, Diggin’ Paradise, Inc.
“We build, service, repair and renovate pools from Palmetto to Punta Gorda,” Annette said. “I love it!”
Although her spare time is limited, Annette enjoys time spent with her family. Between the two of them, she and Greg have five children and 4 grandchildren. She also enjoys running, kick boxing, growing orchids and occassional boating.
Annette has been a loyal customer of 1 Stop Car & Truck repair for over 11 years.
“I used to drop my car off, go to Duke’s to buy plants or orchids and then come back to pick up the car,” Annette said.
She has her AquaTech Pools vehicles serviced at 1 Stop.
“John and Rich are very dedicated to supporting local Venice businesses,” Annette said. “My philosophy is Venice should support Venice.”
“I’ve always been treated super well at 1 Stop,” Annette said. “I would absolutely recommend others to this business.”
