From the Pastor’s DeskOctober is here, which means cooler weather, changing colors, and a new ministry program year in full swing. Fall also means that the church conference is coming where we celebrate the previous year’s ministry, care for the administration of the church, and prepare for the next year of ministry by approving the budget and the nominations of persons to the various

ministry committees that help us carry out our mission. This year’s Church Conference will be December 12 at 6:30 p.m. in room 16. To plan effectively for our ministry together in 2017 we need to reflect on our stewardship and how God is calling us to give of the gifts God has blessed us with.

Some think that stewardship is just a polite way of referring to financial giving to the church but it is more than that. Stewardship is the idea that everything belongs to God as creator and we are managers of what God has blessed us with and called to give a portion back to say thank you and to be used for God’s work. The gifts that we receive, manage, and give include our time, energy, abilities, skills, resources and finances. The giving of these things is a reflection of where our heart is at.

In the coming weeks, we will reflect together on our heart’s condition and how we respond to God’s call through a series entitled Living Generously. Each Sunday the sermons in this series will include short video episodes that tell the story of the Donovan family as they seek to understand what it means to live the words of Jesus. Each week we will see a glimpse of their journey as they take risks, experience suffering and joy, and find themselves transformed by the call of Christ. You won’t want to miss a single Sunday!

Life is busy, and it is easy for our hearts to be distracted by the demands we face. Each of us has so many blessings, but sometimes our attitudes are less than grateful. It is my hope that this series prompts us to take an inventory of the blessings God has entrusted to each of us. As we do, I hope we will be inspired with a new awareness of the goodness of God and how we can share of ourselves so others can know God’s goodness too. At the end of the series, we will have the opportunity to commit our time, talent and finances to do just that. What an opportunity for our church family to celebrate God’s generosity! Please join me in praying that God will prepare our hearts to hear His message of transforming generosity and make a commitment to come each week of the series. There will also be growth groups that follow the series to reflect further with others each week; they will be offered during the week and Sunday mornings. Please sign up at the Connection Table in the south entryway.

What Will Your Legacy Be?Have you considered your legacy; how about continuing to let God use you to transform lives by adding a line to your Will that gives 10% of your estate to Christ Church. Estate

funds have helped us with much needed building repairs or improvements so that our building continues to support vital ministry.

This Community Wide Event, sponsored by Christ Church, is Saturday October 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m. in our North

Parking Lot and Fellowship Hall. Trunk or Treat invites people to park their cars and open their trunks, or the backs of their vehicles, and decorate them. Then they pass out candy

from their trunks. The event provides a safe family environment for trick or treaters. For ideas for the event visit:

http://trunkortreat.homestead.com/

WE NEED YOUR HELP – A Community event exposes new people to Christ Church – we need a lot of help and

participation from the congregation. We need enough volunteers to park their cars and fill our North Parking Lot at

1:30 pm, with trunks open and ready to pass out goodies to children by 2 pm. We also need volunteers in Fellowship Hall

to work with children on various games and activities. This event is open to all children in our community. If your children have friends from school, sports, or your neighborhood please

invite them to attend. Please see the “Connections” table in the South Narthex to volunteer.

THE CONGREGATION’S DONATIONS OF BAGS OF INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED PIECES OF CANDY ARE

GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Sponsored by the Christian Life Committee, forquestions please call Dennis or Kathy Dahlen 598-0851.

Need a Visit?Gifted lay people along with

the Pastor extend the Church’s presence to the homebound and others

through visits. If you have moved, are ill, having

surgery, or need a visit for any reason please call the church office to keep the

Pastor and lay visiting team informed. If we do not

know we cannot go!

Consider ThisIf you desire to give to specific ministries beyond your general offering here are some areas:

Apportionments, Building Fund

(helps with: painting, siding, repairs, parking lot…),Compassionate fund,

Youth Ministry,Audio/Visual Fund,Camp Scholarships ($100 per camper).

We have bundles of worship invite cards in the entryways to take and give out: Put a stack at your office, store or place of work. Ask if you can set a stack out in a business that you frequent. Give them to neighbors, friends and co-workers. Leave them on tables at restaurants to invite your server (leave a tip, too). Give them out in drive thru lanes. Ask God to give you an opportunity to give them out. Keep a few in your wallet, purse or car.

Apportionment GivingChrist Church has a history of 100% apportionment giving, allowing us to help transform lives by God’s love. Apportionments provide for ministries that directly help over 50,000 people in Wisconsin and many more beyond. In 2016 our apportionment is $43,872, if we each give faithfully to the general fund and if able a special gift for apportionments, $180 a year per member, we can continue to support connectional ministries and free up more of our general funds to increase outreach and ministry in our local area.

Stewardship Makes a Difference!Thank you for all the ways you support ministry. This newsletter has examples of how our church is making a difference in people’s lives through your giving! It is good to see people trusting in God and answering His call to give. People are offering themselves to serve and their financial giving (several tithing 10% of income, or working toward tithing)! Check the connection table for Electronic Fund Transfer forms and ways to give of your time and talent as well. As you respond to God’s call in the giving of your time, talent, and resources remember if you have a need contact Pastor George.

OCTOBER’S CHANGE FOR CHANGE IS GOING TO SUPPORT:

UMCOR Flood Relief for LouisianaWe have heard of the loss of homes and belongings

due to the terrible flooding that occurred this summer. It was called, “Katrina without the wind,” that was how serious it was! If you are not familiar

with UMCOR, (United Methodist Committee on Relief) the most important reason to donate through

them as opposed to any other charity, is that the entire administrative costs have already been paid

through our apportionments. Therefore, every dollar contributed goes to those in need. Thank you for

your contributions. Witness/Outreach Team

-------------------------------------------------------------The next St. Richard’s Dinner is November 8th,

look for a sign up in the south entryway to help - donate food or to serve at the meal.

RIC is in need of drivers to drive others to the polls on Tuesday, November 8th. Even helping a portion of that

day will be helpful. Call either Tammy Hayward or Nancy Holmlund to volunteer to help on

Election Day 2016.
