The Goodners-Serving Christ with ACTION September 2013 Sustainability We had good meetings with ACTION’s International coordinators in Alberta, Canada. A big topic of discussion was “sustainability.” So what is sustainability? We believe it is training our national brothers and sisters and working with them in such a way that they develop and carry on their own ministries. A good example is the work Paul and Patrick do with Sustainable Church Multiplica- tion. Check out our SCM website at www.scm-action.org. They train leaders to disciple others to start churches which multiply and are sustained by the body of believers in that country. The nationals are reaching their lost and helping meet the needs of their own people. Pastor Ronnie in Uganda is a good example of this. He has started about seven new house churches that are reproducing more leaders. This work is indigenous and dependent on the nationals. They are meeting the needs of their own communities. Paul witnessed many wid- ows and orphans ministered to by these churches which are light and hope to their peo- ple. There is much more to sustainability. It involves taking the examples in the Bible as churches follow Christ in obeying the “Great Commission”. It involves encouraging the peo- ple that they too have the power from the Holy Spirit and abilities to live as Jesus commands. Paul is currently working on revising and de- veloping new SCM curriculum for training lead- ers in Cambodia this fall. This involves writing lessons that are easily understood and repro- ducible in order that our national leaders can train their people as well. Paul and Patrick are always trying to improve their methods of instruction. Paul will be traveling with Cambodian pastor and missionary, Radha Manickam, who will be translating and teaching along with Paul. They trained pastors and leaders in Cambodia two years ago, but there is great need for more! Our heartfelt thanks to all of you supporting us in this work! I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now (Philippians 1:3-5, NIV). Sustainability

We had good meetings with ACTION’s International coordinators in Alberta, Canada. A big topic of discussion was “sustainability.” So what is sustainability? We believe it is training our national brothers and sisters and working with them in such a way that they develop and carry on their own ministries. A good

example is the work Paul and Patrick do with Sustainable Church Multiplica-tion. Check out our SCM website at www.scm-action.org. They train leaders to disciple others to start churches which multiply and are sustained by the body of believers in that country. The nationals are reaching their lost and

helping meet the needs of their own people. Pastor Ronnie in Uganda is a good example of this. He has started about seven new house churches that are reproducing more leaders. This work is indigenous and dependent on the nationals. They are meeting the needs of their own communities. Paul witnessed many wid-ows and orphans ministered to by these churches which are light and hope to their peo-ple. There is much more to sustainability. It involves taking the examples in the Bible as churches follow Christ in obeying the “Great Commission”. It involves encouraging the peo-ple that they too have the power from the Holy Spirit and abilities to live as Jesus commands. Paul is currently working on revising and de-veloping new SCM curriculum for training lead-ers in Cambodia this fall. This involves writing lessons that are easily understood and repro-ducible in order that our national leaders can

train their people as well. Paul and Patrick are always trying to improve their methods of instruction. Spotlight: Cambodia

Cambodia has a population of

over 14.8 million people and is

located in the southern portion of

the Indochina Peninsula in South-

east Asia. This country in pre-

dominantly Buddhist. Buddhism

was introduced to Cambodia in

the 12th century. The gospel

came to Cambodia in the 1920s,

so not really that long ago. Our

training in fall of 2011produced

some fruit, with a little work

started. However, we are not sat-

isfied with this, and believe that

the Lord is leading us to do more.

There are many challenges.

Through good communication

and shared work, we are trusting

the Lord. *Please pray with us for

the souls of so many lost in Cam-

bodia, and for Radha who is a

wonderful man of God and helps

lead our SCM work in Cambodia.

If God is leading you to support

our ministry, gifts can be desig-

nated for Paul and Jean Goodner

#42028 and sent to Action Interna-

tional Ministries at PO Box 398,

Prayer and Praise

*Please pray for us to share God’s love and truth in all we do and for people to

believe in Christ as their Savior.

*Please pray for more missionaries as there are still over 2 billion people in the

world who have never heard the gospel. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers

are few (Matthew 9:37b, NASB).

*Please pray for the over 200 new churches that have started up in Africa to

adhere to the word of God.

*Please pray for God to lead and guide Paul and Radha’s preparation and SCM

training coming up in Cambodia in October.

*Praise God for the new churches and new believers in Africa!

*Praise God for your loving support of our ministry!

The Home Front We kept busy as the summer went by so fast. We have been helping co-lead along with ACTION colleagues, a Bible study at the Edmonds Senior Center.

What a lovely group of people! They are now talking about making this into an outreach. Paul has been mentoring candidates for missions and encouraging them through the initial proc-

ess of becoming missionaries with ACTION. We are gearing up for candi-date orientation in September and will be teaching sessions on language ac-quisition as well as assisting with sessions on spiritual warfare and support raising. *Please pray for God to guide and bless this orientation time.

*Please pray for us also as we gear up for fall and mobilizing at mission Conferences and Christian universities. Jean and Rachel had a 2-day girls’ retreat before taking Ra-chel back to Multnomah University for the start of her junior year. *Please pray for a good school year for her and Stephen starting up again at SPU September 30.
