From the Pastor’s DeskThe Fall season leads us to reflect on stewardship in church life, the

managing of the gifts God has given us for our own living and to be used to enable the work of the church and bless others. Two years ago at this time we went through a sermon series called “Living Generously” where through video episodes we met the Donovan family and saw them learn to give not only their 10 % tithe to God, but the best of their time and talents too. Frank,

the husband and father, got involved at a soup kitchen where he discovered that Living Generously called him to not just write a check, but to pick up a ladle and serve others. Then last year we looked at the next part of this series called, “Loving Generously,” where the Donovan’s discovered how God’s call to generosity includes making space for people in need and investing ourselves in others.

We are currently in the third and final installment called, “Leading Generously.” As we follow Frank and his family one last time we are considering our areas of influence and what it means to lead generously even when it’s hard. We are learning what it means to not simply create a legend for ourselves, but to create a legacy that aligns with God’s kingdom values and blesses others. At the end of this series we will have the opportunity to make a commitment to help enable the work of God’s Church in 2019 and be a part of a legacy. Please look over the stewardship mailing that you’ll receive (or pick up the materials at the Connection Table) and return your commitment card by November 25.

November also calls us to reflect on our gratitude with the Thanksgiving holiday. A time to get the family together and join in thanksgiving to God for all the blessings of the past year and for the best blessing of all, Jesus Christ our Savior! As we approach this holiday season, let us seek to remember the things that we have to be thankful for, and that most of all we are blessed by God’s love for us. God has given many blessings and it is right to praise Him and to come with thanksgiving. I hope that we remember our blessings not just once a year, but every day and I hope that we respond to God’s love with thanksgiving not just once a year, but every day as well, thankfulness should be a natural state of being for those who have encountered the love of God. Through the history of the Church God’s people have been marked by their spirit of generosity because of the change God makes in their lives through Christ. Let us continue to keep true to this pattern and be generous with our time, talent, and finances. I am excited and looking forward to the things that God will do through those who live with an attitude of gratitude and are directed by the Holy Spirit. Have a great Thanksgiving.

God Bless, Pastor George J. Kafer

P.S. On December 10 at 6:00 p.m. we will hold a Charge Conference where we will celebrate this past year’s ministry, approve leaders for ministry teams and committees, and approve a budget to continue our mission in 2019.

P.P.S. Thank you to all those who gave cards, and shared words of appreciation in October for “Pastor Appreciation Month,” Cassie and I feel very blessed to be serving in this place.

Christ Church Men’s Bible StudyWednesdays at 6:00 pm in the

Conference RoomBring your Bible. Contact Brian Crowe for

the current chapter being studied. Then read in advance of coming to class. Bring a

friend with you. Let’s GROW!

The Evening Dinner Circle meets on Nov. 5th at 6:00 p.m. for dinner and a

mission program.

The Ellen Circle meets on Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the Friendship Room.

A Sound Money Management PlanGod desires that we live balanced lives. God knows that money can cause us problems both

the lack of it and letting it rule our heart. The 10-10-80 money management principle helps us keep things in check and honor God. Tithe 10% of our income to God through the Church, save at least 10% of our income for future needs, and then live off the remaining 80%. Doing this grows our relationship with God, helps enable the ministry of God’s Church, and helps us have financial freedom.

The idea is to give to God and live within your means, don’t borrow money for something that is not a need, instead, save up for it. Don’t fall into the trap that says more stuff equals more happiness and don’t think that what you have is just yours and ignore God’s financial directions. All that we have is a gift from God and earned by the talents and skills God has given us. Money can be an idol in many people’s heart, which is why it’s important to follow the Biblical model of tithing is an expression of gratitude and a tangible way to put God first and help carry out His will.

Those who have learned to trust God in tithing have found that God is faithful to provide. For your own spiritual growth and the growth of our church, I pray that that you will join Cassandra and me along with others at Christ Church in following a money management plan that allows us to be good stewards and God honoring with our income. Please turn in your 2019 pledge cards by Nov. 25. Thanks & God Bless, Pastor George

Apportionments provide for ministries that directly help over 50,000 people in Wisconsin and many more beyond. In 2018 our apportionment is $44,484, if we each give faithfully to the general fund and if able a special gift for apportionments, $242 a year per member, we can continue to support connectional ministries and free up more of our general funds to increase outreach and ministry in our local area.

Stewardship Makes a Difference!Thank you for all the ways you

support ministry. This newsletter has examples of how our church is making a difference in people’s lives through your giving! It is good to see people trusting in God and answering His call to give. People are offering themselves to serve and their financial giving (several tithing 10% of income, or working toward tithing)!
