For all the great shops and restaurants that Walton-on-Thames puts on your doorstep – and

there are a great many – its history is a major part of its charm. Since its inception, The Thames has been its lifeblood. It was here that Julius Caesar forded the river during his second invasion of

Britain. Its bridge – which arrived some years after Julius – has also cemented its place in history.

Through the ages, there have been six incarnations of Walton Bridge. The first,

built between 1748 and 1750, was painted by Canaletto in 1754. The finished piece now

residing in the Dulwich Picture Gallery. The second was painted by J. M. W. Turner in 1805. When two masters paint your bridge, you know you’ve found somewhere special to call home.
