OUR YOUTH OF THE YEAR IN HER OWN WORDS

“My Boys & Girls Clubs experience has been the most humbling, eye opening and demanding experience of my life. Because of the Club and the staff, I started going to school consistently, my self esteem boosted and my grades drastically improved. I thank them so much for supporting me. I know that with the tools and knowledge I have gained from the Club, I am prepared to create the best future possible!”

- Amanda Lopez, William J. Oakes Branch Member & BGCGSD Overall Youth Of The Year

FACT - Based on the latest census, in her neighborhood of Logan Heights, only 57% of residents 18 and over graduated from high school. Amanda plans to attend San Diego City College and then transfer to a major university to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

“When kids come back to visit and tell me

the impact that the Club had on them and

how their lives are better now because they

came, it reinforces why I love working here.

It’s a privilege that every day we have a

chance to connect and inspire a child to do

great things. We all accept the challenge of

trying to make a difference in the lives of our

members on a daily basis.”

- Ruth Cassidy, BGCGSD Clairemont Branch Manager

“Chicken of the Sea has always been a company focused on doing good-and we feel that this type of action needs to start in one's own community. The Clubs set an amazing example for our local community, in that they embrace the Pay it Forward spirit that we have embodied for more than 100 years. We know that a donation to the Clubs will be immediately passed on to the thousands of children who count on the Clubs to make their lives better. We are honored to be aligned with this wonderful organization.”
