Costa  at our Community Garden!! 

 

 

Principal’s Message 

It  was  with  great  pride  that  we  began  this  week  by 

welcoming  a  very  significant  person  to  the  Bowraville 

Central  School  community:  Costa  Georgiadis.  Costa  is 

most famous for the ABC’s Gardening Australia program, 

and he  is now very  famous  in Bowraville  for his warmth 

and genuine enthusiasm. 

Costa spent a  li le  longer  than planned  in our beau ful 

garden, sharing his experiences and  ideas with students, 

staff,  and  the  broader  Bowraville  community.  His 

enthusiasm was infec ous and I think everyone who met 

him would feel  like me –  inspired to do more gardening; 

keen to grow healthy yummy local food; and con nue to 

learn about the environment.  

Our thanks to the Nambucca Shire Council for facilita ng 

this  visit,  and  as  always  sincerest  thanks  and 

congratula ons  to  Mr  King  and  the  amazing  list  of 

students and volunteers who have made this Community 

Garden such a great space in so short a  me. Costa le  us 

proudly wearing  his  Bowra  hat,  and wan ng  to  return 

again  in  the  future  to  see  the  garden  develop  further. 

Next  me we’ll definitely have the pizza oven fired up!

Schools Spectacular 2015 

There  are  s ll  limited  places  le   for  the  Schools Spectacular  performance  in  Sydney  from  25th November  to  27th  November.  This  will  be  a  trip  to remember especially this year as it is the first  me we have 3 of our own Bowraville Central School students performing. 

Students from Year 5 to Year 12 are invited to go.  The cost is $335 which covers: 

Travel/Accommoda on All  meals  ‐  except  morning  tea  and  lunch  on Wednesday A visit  to  the Sydney Tower,  the Aquarium, Madame Toussauds Was Museum, the Sydney Wildlife Zoo, the Sky Walk and other Sydney sights. The Schools Spectacular  Please Note:  The final cost is $335.00 for those who have already paid a deposit.  Don’t miss this great opportunity.  Should you require further informa on please contact the school.

Hi, 

My  name  is  Keeley  Finlay.  At  the moment  I  am 

doing a research assignment for CAFS (Community 

and Family Studies).  I am  interested  in finding out 

how  big  of  an  impact  social  media  has  on 

teenagers. During next week I am going to send an 

email  to  every  student  from  Year  7  to  12  asking 

you  to fill  in  a  survey on Google Apps which will 

help me get some valuable informa on about who 

uses social media and how it affects us. Everything 

will  be  confiden al.  Informa on  will  be  used  to 

submit my assignment. I think it might be valuable 

for the whole school community.

White Ribbon Day November 25th 

Students  in  Year  9  PDHPE  classes  have  been 

involved  in  a  program  called  “Love  Bites”  about 

respec ul rela onships. They are keen to spread a 

posi ve  message  around  the  school  community 

about rela onships.   The students have signed up 

to White Ribbon Day as it is a Na onal Day to help 

stop violence against women. 

They are planning to produce a series of videos of 

interviews with children in primary classes giving a 

posi ve message of how people should treat each 

other in rela onships. 

Any  student  who  is  willing  to  par cipate  in  the 

videos will  take  home  a media  consent  form  so 

that we are sure that parents and carers are happy 

for their child’s image to be shown to others in an 

assembly  or  possibly  linked  to  the  Bowraville 

Central School’s website.

Star ng    Friday  23rd  October  students  K  to  6 

will  in  sport  me  undergo  development  in 

League  skills.  The  NRL  team  will  come  for  3 

weeks for K to Yr 2 and 5 weeks for Yr 3 to Yr 6 

to encourage students to remain ac ve in sport. 

Students  will  only  need  a  hat  and  sports 

uniform.

Ringworm 

Ringworm  has  nothing  to  do  with  worms  of  any 

kind.  Ringworm  is  a  common  fungal  infec on 

caused by  fungi  called dermatophytes  that  live on 

the skin. Ringworm can appear  on the skin or scalp. 

Ringworm takes  it’s name from the red scaly patch 

or bump which over  me  forms a  ring or  series of 

rings on the skin. 

It  can  be  passed  on  through  person  to  person 

contact  as  well  as  contact  with  infected  animals, 

usually pets and farm animals. 

If your child has a ringworm, it must be covered to 

prevent  it  spreading  to  other  people.  Your  child 

may  return  to  school  once  treatment  has 

commenced.

The Pearl Duncan  teaching  scholarships  support 

Aboriginal  and  Torres  Strait  Islander  people  to 

gain  an  in al  preservice  teacher  educa on 

qualifica on. Also for Aboriginal and Torres Strait 

Islander people is the Lambert McBride Perpetual 

Bursary  which  will  provide  a  one‐off  grant  to 

assist  with  ter ary  expenses  for  study  in  any 

discipline. 

RRISK –Free Presenta on 

Southern Cross University is a proud sponsor 

of  RRISK,  Reduce  Risk  Increase  Student 

Knowledge, and would  like  to  invite parents

Alcohol  and Other Drugs  session  presented 

by  key  note  speaker,  Paul  Dillion,  the 

Director  of  Drug  and  Alcohol  Research  and 

Training Australia (DARTA). RRISK  is a health 

promo on  program  that  addresses  risk‐

taking  behaviour  amongst  teenagers  in 

par cular  Year  11  students  in  the  North 

Coast of NSW.

C O M M U N I T Y N E W S Skate demos, compe ons and learn to skate 

Macksville  Park  Fun  and  Fitness  Official  Opening and Nambucca River Fes val 

Everyone’s invited to join in the fun when Macksville Park Fun and Fitness is officially opened with special skate  demos  and  compe ons  at Macksville  Skate Park on Saturday 28 November. 

The event begins at 9.30am at  the  skate park, with pro skaters showing off their moves. Bring your own skateboard  or  scooter  to  have  a  go  in  the compe ons  or  get  a  free  lesson  throughout  the morning. The events are suitable for kids of all ages. 

Nambucca  Shire  Council  and  the NSW  government have  funded  the  skate  park  and  other  works  in Macksville  Park,  including  ligh ng  for  the  touch football fields, a community  recrea on  room at  the Macksville Memorial Aqua c Centre and fitness trails throughout the park.

Physical Culture (Physi) is coming to 

the Nambucca Valley in 2016 

Classes  will  be  held  Wednesdays  at  the Nambucca Community and Arts Centre. 

Physi  fuses  dance  styles  such  as  Jazz,  Ballet, Contemporary and Yoga. 

It  is  also  a  team based  sport  that’s  social  and fun. 

Choreography  changes  annually  and  is performed to modern music. 

Physi  is  a  sport  for  life  with  classes  being offered  to  girls  from  3  years  of  age  to grandmothers. 

So mark your diary with classes due to start  in February next year.

Bowraville Theatre – November 2015 Sunday 8th November at 2pm The Living Coast Fes val  will be showing two films “The Sea and Me” and “My Saltwater Sanctuary” presented by Jus n Field of the Wilderness Society, and Lyn Orrego of the Nambucca Valley Conserva on Associa on will give a talk about our forests. The whole theme of the fes val is conserva on and sustainability. This is a very special presenta on and very close to the whole community. Entry is by dona on and our theatre café will be open.  Sunday 15th November at 2pm  the theatre will be screening “Ricki and the Flash” a film starring Meryl Streep as Ricky Rendazzo, singing in a cover band “The Flash”, having divorced her husband and le  her family for her music. She has a some me fling with Greg  (musician Rick Springfield).   The ex‐husband  is played by Kevin Kline. Streep gets an urgent phone call from home and has to return to Indiana because her daughter Mamie Gummer (Streep’s actual daughter) is in great trouble. Doors open at 1pm. Entry is $12.00, Concession $10, BAC Members $8, Family of four $25. Come along and enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee before the show. Doors will open at 1pm.
